My favorite thing about the older Nintendo and Sega game controllers is that they can take a great deal of abuse and still work great, which is why Street Fighter II and the older Mortal Kombat games are still my favorite fighting games.

The Sega Genesis controller sucked in my opinion thats why I still play Super Nintendo its controller is awsome im not saying that the Sega Genesis sucks its just that I like SNES more is all im saying.
I have to say that the SNES controller is my most favorite controller ever. I even find it to be less bulky than the Genesis controller. The only problem is that the buttons feel a little stiff.
@TheSmutchypuss You hate wii? For about $100, the wii is an all in one system with the emulators for snes, nes, genesis, and more games, using the snes controller. You can watch avis on the tv off external hdd, a large hacking community. Easy to rip games to play on a usb loader. Wii's pretty awesome, aside from the games! There are some that are good though.
The guy who designed the North American version of the Super Nintendo wanted the players to know the difference between the A&B buttons and the X&Y buttons, or something along those lines.
I always felt with this pad that the D-Pad was slightly pushing downward. If I pushed forward, it would occasionally cause the character to crouch. I remember the problem as a kid when I played the system in stores. Now that I have one after all these years, I still feel it does that.
on the SNES controller i always found it to be kind of dull. the NES i liked how the black, reds and grey stood up so much. On teh SNES it was all grey toned, with a dull purple and no contrast. If it had some black tones design here and there it woudl eb far more awesome IMO
Sony's PlayStation was originally conceived as a SNES disc add-on to be used with a SNES controller. So yeah you could say the design was "rip'd off." ...sorta.

Sony has been copying off of Nintendo's ideas ever since the Playstation came out in 1995. You know the Playstation Move? Where do you think they got that off of? The Playstation controller? Totally copying the Super Nintendo. Sony, why do you do this?
Nintendo and Sony wanted to make a CD-based add-on for the SNES.
But Nintendo did not fill their part of the deal and started working with Phillips.
That's when CD-i came out. Apart from that Sony already put work in the SNES-CD but decided to release that onto the market and called it, you guessed it.. the PlayStation.
snes is the best controller of all time...when they added those 2 buttons on top they really changed it up..that's where sega messed up with their 6 button controllers..every system after this has used this design

I'm only 14, but the SNES is one of my favorites! Super Mario World was my first introduction to Mario, no, to Nintendo in general. New games are great, but give me the retro any day!
I'm 14 to and i got my interest for video games from Super Mario World on the Gba.
And after that i have been crazy about the Snes i got one on christmas and by then my collection have grown.

My Xbox is a bunch of shit, its crashed alot of times, on XBL it signs me out for no reason, I get kicked from parties all the time and the servers and games are full of little English 8 year old`s.
Also it takes me forever to find games, on XBL it takes 10 mins to find a game, on PSN its 4 secs.
The Ps3 doesen't have many good exclusives and really the whole consoleis just filled with Fps's and Gow and stuff in my personal opinion the console is the worst ever to sell millions.

WOW!!! This review kinda sucks!!! The SNES controller is considered one the greatest gamepads ever made. It revolutionized + was there ever a standard pad that was a good as this for any type of game, especially the street fighters? That's why other manufactures tried to copied it & failed. The PS + XBOX gamepads suck ass for fighting games & had to be re-made for comfort etc... Some thing that never happened with the SNES one btw.

Disc Readers get worn out over time, while my Super Nintendo is almost 20 years old and will probably last me several more years. The only system still using cartridges is the handheld Nintendo DS/DSi.

I own the European SNES game console and I have to say that both the Console and the controller look way better than the US one and I love USA stuff so much just saying, maybe it's because the US model came a bit earlier than the EU one so I guess they had time to do some adjustments. (And the European console looks like the Japanesse one...)

I was hoping to get some answers about the buttons in this review, the japanese and european versions of the SNES have very different looking consoles, cartridges and controllers. In my opinion looking a lot better than the american release, why did this happen?
I've never considered the PS1 controller to be a rip-off of the SNES controller. Button layout is a bit similar, but when used in game-playing, they feel completely different.

@kR0B45 Fine, Sony didn't copy Nintendo they just "borrowed" their Ideas and yes the first analog stick was by Nintendo, but it was called a "digital" stick even though their is barely any difference, and the rumble idea was made into the Dualshock controller for the PS1.
@worldruler10 The first consoles with analogue sticks on their controllers were the Vectrex and the Atari 5200, both in 1982 (14 years before the n64). In case youve never seen the PS1 dualshock, it has a completely different design, and more features than the n64 controller. If you want to play the "copy" game, the n64 controller copied the sega saturn controller, vectrex controller, and the playstation controller
@kR0B45 I assume you are talking about the Saturn's 3D controller? I don't think that Nintendo copied Sega. I think that the advent of 3D gaming made both companies realize that an analog stick was the way to go. The N64 controller was being developed in 1994 and possibly 1993. I'm not even sure that Nights was announced by then, let alone Sega's controller.
@ChicoEdge No not the 3D controller, the regular controller. The n64 controller has the same 6 face button layout as the saturn/genesis controller. The gamecube controller did copy the saturn 3d controller though

Mark you are an idiot. In every review, there is at least one moment where I think 'He's done a shitty job there.' In particular here, OF COURSE the PS1 controller ripped off the SNES. The button layout is identical. The hand grips are simply an addition, an evolution; they don't discount the blatant copying. Well, you won't even read this so I'm wasting my time, but fuck you anyway. Make better videos.

Plus the comparisons he makes between games or controllers are always really crap. And after that i have been crazy about the Snes i got one on christmas and by then my collection have grown.
And I have to agree with you that the retro is so much better than the new Xbox 360 and Ps3, i mean the new ones are good, but just not as good as the old Nintendo Stuff.

My Xbox is a bunch of shit, its crashed alot of times, on XBL it signs me out for no reason, I get kicked from parties all the time and the servers and games are full of little English 8 year old`s.
Also it takes me forever to find games, on XBL it takes 10 mins to find a game, on PSN its 4 secs.

WOW!!! This review kinda sucks!!! The SNES controller is considered one the greatest gamepads ever made. It revolutionized + was there ever a standard pad that was a good as this for any type of game, especially the street fighters? That's why other manufactures tried to copied it & failed. The PS + XBOX gamepads suck ass for fighting games & had to be re-made for comfort etc... Some thing that never happened with the SNES one btw.

At the very least, Halo and Cod, along with a few other FPS/TPS games, like Goldeneye, should be the only ones out there. It feels like there are 15+ Shooters coming out a year. They've gotta lower the number.

Disc Readers get worn out over time, while my Super Nintendo is almost 20 years old and will probably last me several more years. The only system still using cartridges is the handheld Nintendo DS/DSi.

I own the European SNES game console and I have to say that both the Console and the controller look way better than the US one and I love USA stuff so much just saying, maybe it's because the US model came a bit earlier than the EU one so I guess they had time to do some adjustments. Both of the controllers that came with our original SNES have one or both of those buttons messed up. Then again, we did play a bit too much Street Fighter 2 on it's hardest difficulty.

@kR0B45 One thing is that the n64 had the first analog stick and rumble pak and gamecube didn't really copy Sony and I heard that Nintendo and Sony were working on a Cd add on for the snes, so your have right but Sony still copied Nintendo till this day( PS Move).

@kR0B45 Fine, Sony didn't copy Nintendo they just "borrowed" their Ideas and yes the first analog stick was by Nintendo, but it was called a "digital" stick even though their is barely any difference, and the rumble idea was made into the Dualshock controller for the PS1.

@worldruler10 The first consoles with analogue sticks on their controllers were the Vectrex and the Atari 5200, both in 1982 (14 years before the n64). In case youve never seen the PS1 dualshock, it has a completely different design, and more features than the n64 controller. If you want to play the "copy" game, the n64 controller copied the sega saturn controller, vectrex controller, and the playstation controller

@kR0B45 I assume you are talking about the Saturn's 3D controller? I don't think that Nintendo copied Sega. I think that the advent of 3D gaming made both companies realize that an analog stick was the way to go. The N64 controller was being developed in 1994 and possibly 1993. I'm not even sure that Nights was announced by then, let alone Sega's controller.
