Listen guys,I love Hendrix,i love Stevie, the point is you have to remember where it started. Both died too soon.Alot of things would not be done with the guitar if it were not for Hendrix!
without hendrix theres no srv think of having hendrix as an influence learning to play. hendrix didnt have any influences that were more spectacular than he was jimi started from scratch which is why he deserves more credit than srv
@goatherder92 Hendrix wasn't SRV's biggest influence....he was teaching himself how to play guitar before he ever heard a Hendrix record, which his brother introduced to him. Gain some knowledge on SRV before you come in and comment.

ya know that always made me wonder..., yes we all know he is wasted.., but how in gods name was he able to maintain?? his speech isnt slurred or anything...And hes on Coke!!! how does he not fall over? lol
this is e very good show! for some reason, with him being coked out and all..,it fits him!! his suit, the sound, the look, it just all goes together. As does every other show!
I seen a lot of these and this tokyo performance may have been his best. I'm surprised the Pacific Ocean didn't catch on fire from SRV burnin' this up.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the way srv said in an interview was that he put out a cover of voodoo chile slight return but it wasnt the same at all couldnt get that feel hedrix got for it when he wrote it.
Everyone is saying SRV is better than Hendrix......if that's the way you hear it that's fine, but atleast give Hendrix the credit for writing this song.
Well, you're right, Hendrix wrote this song and SRV covers it brilliantly, however, Hendrix took the riff from Muddy Waters and it's a tribute to Muddy. The song is made up of a medley of verses based on Muddy Waters' songs, including "Rollin' Stone", "Still a Fool", and "Rollin' and Tumblin'". The real version is called Catfish Blues, and it's really cool.
I don't think so,hendrix is the god of guitar, srv is the white bluesman, the only withe to made good blues.Listen more Hendrix, intro and songs,it was incredible. ;)
Hendrix's studio version fucks SRV'S hard in the ass. SRV is probably my favourite guitarist and clearly one of the all time greats, but if you can't see that, then you are a fan boy fucker would probably enjoy finding a SRV lookalike and sucking his dick.
The studio version of Hendrix's version is the equivalent of Texas Flood at El Mocambo. SRV's Voodoo child doesn't have shit on it! It's a whole new level.
@Carthsgtr Nah...SRV's rendition of Voodoo Child at Midtfyns Festival and the Volunteer Jam at Starwood Ampitheater are quite possibly the two greatest versions of that song I've ever heard.
I say this every time I see people arguing about who's better. Americans these days (and yeah, I'm a damn yankee too) are concerned way too damn much about who's better instead of just enjoying the goddamn music. Music is all about soul. You can't compare two people's souls. Music isn't a pissing contest, it's just there to listen to and play.
im gonna have to disagree rap music is a pissing contest.they are all trying to make more money than each other and have bigger chains and houses.but its different with blues, rock, etc.
thats Tommy Shannon. i never noticed the mariachi pants, but that's how we do it here in TX. we all borrow from each others cultures, we like it that way!
one word: heroic. another few words: better than hendrix ever hoped to be. if hendrix was alive, he would be masturbating to Stevie Ray's performances.
When I see all this arguing over who the best is I feel like Kim Jong Ill on Team America...."Why is everyone so fuckin' stupid?" Why argue about it?....Especially since no-one is or can be right!!! Just sit back and listen to the Gods that have been placed on this earth for us to enjoy.
Amen, amen! Sometimes the spaces in between the notes are as important as the notes themselves.
Also, re the inevitable "he's not as good as" or "so-and-so is not as good as" debates: they're all too different to directly compare. I s SRV as good as Waters. In a way, no. In another way, yes, of course. Enjoy them all.
I hate how some people argue and say that "Oh there are guitar players out there that can play much faster than srv" Guitar playing is not about fast licks. Its cool in small doses, like how srv does it, but the metalheads that play nothing but fast licks just get boring. srv finds many other ways to "catch your ear" thats why i think he's the best. and besides he plays 13 guage strings and still manages to play flawlessly!
SRV can't really be called the "best", even he'd argue that claim, Steve was (IMHO) among THE most effectively powerful blues players of all time and had a penchant for mixing a harder edge that many other blues musicians didn't have. But would I say he's "better" than Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters? No way, just as good in his own way, but it's kind of comparing apples and oranges.
i think hes the best blues player ever but theres def other ppl our there that would be better at like funk and rock and other stuff but anyway in this video he is rediculous
@packfunked - I love your little 'Don't argue with me' comment. It's almost as if you've had some rough arguements in the past and don't want to lose another one. But even if that is the case, I pretty much agree with you. SRV is one of the greatest guitars ever.
I love this thanks for posting. Jimi, SRV all good . You should check out Mitch Master You Tube voodoo child aranged differnt to a house beat it rocks and some slide, its pretty cool to. Long live SRV
