without hendrix theres no srv think of having hendrix as an influence learning to play. hendrix didnt have any influences that were more spectacular than he was jimi started from scratch which is why he deserves more credit than srv

the way srv said in an interview was that he put out a cover of voodoo chile slight return but it wasnt the same at all couldnt get that feel hedrix got for it when he wrote it.

Well, you're right, Hendrix wrote this song and SRV covers it brilliantly, however, Hendrix took the riff from Muddy Waters and it's a tribute to Muddy. The song is made up of a medley of verses based on Muddy Waters' songs, including "Rollin' Stone", "Still a Fool", and "Rollin' and Tumblin'". The real version is called Catfish Blues, and it's really cool.

Hendrix's studio version fucks SRV'S hard in the ass. SRV is probably my favourite guitarist and clearly one of the all time greats, but if you can't see that, then you are a fan boy fucker would probably enjoy finding a SRV lookalike and sucking his dick.

The studio version of Hendrix's version is the equivalent of Texas Flood at El Mocambo. SRV's Voodoo child doesn't have shit on it! It's a whole new level.

Also, re the inevitable "he's not as good as" or "so-and-so is not as good as" debates: they're all too different to directly compare. I s SRV as good as Waters. In a way, no. In another way, yes, of course. Enjoy them all.

I hate how some people argue and say that "Oh there are guitar players out there that can play much faster than srv" Guitar playing is not about fast licks. Its cool in small doses, like how srv does it, but the metalheads that play nothing but fast licks just get boring. srv finds many other ways to "catch your ear" thats why i think he's the best. and besides he plays 13 guage strings and still manages to play flawlessly!

SRV can't really be called the "best", even he'd argue that claim, Steve was (IMHO) among THE most effectively powerful blues players of all time and had a penchant for mixing a harder edge that many other blues musicians didn't have. But would I say he's "better" than Robert Johnson or Muddy Waters? No way, just as good in his own way, but it's kind of comparing apples and oranges.
