Although two questions:

1. How do you play clips backwards?

2. How do you put a still image on a moving video like at 2:36?

1. There's a Reverse Clip feature when you go into the time stretch options (this will probably vary depending on what video program you use, I use Adobe Elements).

2. The video editing program I used allows 'layers' of footage, so you can make 2 videos play at the same time. I used a seperate image on one layer and a Hotel Mario clip on another layer. Only problem is that the image automatically becomes transparent, which is why parts of Peach's dress were transparent.

...Considering Adobe Photoshop Elements 7 costs $140, I'll stick to windows Movie Maker and not be able to do any of that. =D

Sony Vegas Pro 10 is one program using when setting a still image on a moving video. Dunno if he used it, though.
