The reason for the crash was pretty obvious... the plane was a fucking MD a flying death trap.... No other aircraft manufacturer has had so many fatal crashes due to technical errors than MD. .. geez.. how many more events like this have to happen before someone puts MD out of business!
Here is another Boeing or Airbus fan...knowing nothing about planes, he decided that MD11 is responsible for the accident. For him, difference between planes is like difference between two football clubs. Why? Because he is fan of Boeing or Airbus. More like Airbus, because MD is actually part of the Boeing family, but who cares...what a hell he knows about planes.
So... someone should put YOU out of business from youtube, not MD planes!
@dallyborr An Airbus and its A.I. saved all the people in the Hudson RIver incident. Only with an Airbus could someone achieve such a thing. So, Airbus ftw, fuck Boeing (inclunding failed MD).
even if the aircraft had landed as soon as possible the rate that the systems failed and the fire spread meant that the crew wouldn't have been able to make it to Halifax safely
The crew did what the airline taught them to do they did want to try to get the plane on the ground but the checklists slowed it down it wasn't the pilot's fault. Look what happens when the pilots don't follow the checklist it's just a case of what happened on Northwest Airlines 255 an MD-82 which crashed in Detroit
I feel sorry for the families who lost their loved ones in the crash. And I can't even imagine the trauma the air traffic controller went through too, second guessing himself for a long time, wondering what more he could of done. Just tragic all the way around.
How many people believed the crew when the lights went out that everything was fine? How many people were like "BS!" but didn't say anything not wanting to cause a seen and make it worse for other passengers?
The problem is that the air crew waited too long to declare a Mayday and switch to the emergency frequency. If they had done that earlier it would have eliminated any cross talk and the Controller would have hear what they said but, I as they teach in flight school, the guy on the ground can't do anything for you. You have to fly the airplane. In this case, it seems the Controller was more anxious to get the plane down than the air crew. They waited too long.
protocol should dictate that a flight attendent should be on standby with fire fighting equitment till the plane lands once a smell of smoke is detected, period,
that atc is a complete idiot. he wanted the pilot to keep dumping fuel after they announced the major emergency after pan pan pan. he may be following regulations and if he is, those regulations are fucked. we just want to get that plane on the ground despite it having 230 tons of fuel. at least then once the plane had landed they could deploy the chutes and if they were lucky probably only a few people may have died. i swear, some of these regulations still need to be reviewed near future
@MattyJThomas That's the captains fault dude. The co-pilot wanted to bypass dumping fuel but the captain said no dump fuel. The captain should've landed immediately. If I was a pilot and there was smoke in the cockpit I'm getting the plane on the ground as soon as possible forget a freaking checklist!
is there any proper video on youtube- the same video- with a good synchronized video-audio quality? in this one there is at least 3 seconds diffirent between the audio and video...
@mrceebees14 Well, yeah. You said, "as usual Canada needs the help of the United States." It just sounded [arrogant] sic to me. What would be wrong with helping some other country with their airplane crash? What does the "as usual" in your statement mean? You know, the United States, are not without fault. I mean nobody's perfect, just because we are the second most wealthy nation in the world.
People get mad any time an American says anything because everyone hates us. But it seems the minute they need help, they want our help, economic, military. Not easy being the big kid on the block, decade after decade after decade.
Perfection is an illusion, near perfect is something else, that is possible.
@bwd81977 Watching the documentary has nothing to do with making safe smart decisions. Smoke in the cockpit to me means get the plane on the ground immediately. Not go down a stupid checklist.
@calstate. I've watched 50+ episodes in 1 wk; the check lists are necessary but need to be streamlined for efficiency. The FAA even turned to NASA, which only follows checklists, for help. There are at least 2 episodes about deadly take off crashes b/c the pilots didn't initiate or complete the take-off checklist, and they didn't deploy the mandatory flaps & slats to lift off, which is worse than driving a car w/o wheels b/c you immediately crash and burn. It's flight 101!
@cannedheat300 I agree checklist should definitely be completed before take-off. But in an emergency situation where smoke is filling up the cockpit I say forget a checklist. Getting the plane on the ground is more important than a checklist. Sometimes common sense needs to overrule a checklist.
@cannedheat300 Same here. Have become a recent fanatic of ACI! The traditional checklists are so long that they add to the misery of the pilots in horrible situations!
