I was fishing once with waders and got stuck big time on a mud ledge that threatened to take me under water. That was kind of scarey. I was alone with no one around to help if I couldn't get out.
The mud/quicksand was under the water! Fortunately, I found a tree limb and pulled myself out. In that instance, relaxing and trying to float would not be a solution. If those waders had filled with water I would have been in big trouble.
No but you can so long as you can get out of it... People usually only sink to their waist even when its deep enough to submerse yourself in... To go under you basically have to dig your way down with your body...
