You could have hit that with a hammer and it still wouldn't break, but if you hit the edge it will shatter.

@davereddy04 ooh! Good idea to try hitting it from different angles. May have to teach some kids in Family Build Night how to cut glass, and offer that up as a hands-on demonstration!
