@brainboob Well he didn't get the biggest names. He got a nobody for Anakin, and Ewan McGreggor wasn't a huge star back then, neither was Natalie Portman. Their careers boomed after star wars.
I love that the original Star Wars was cast with mostly unknowns, that's one reason why I didn't like the prequels, too many big names spoiled the recipe.
I'd like to hear about his casting of the PT. Really, a few of the actors were brilliant, don't get me wrong, but people like Christensen and Portman really ruined the Prequels.
@PokemonPinecone That's one thing that irritates me. Lucas had all these great actors for the prequels, and he made them say these goddawful lines in one or two takes. The only time in the prequels I actually felt emotionally invested in the characters was when Obi-Wan confronts Anakin after defeating him, and in that case McGregor fought Lucas successfully to play the scene differently than what Lucas wanted.
I disagree, I think the acting should compensate for whatever dialog you are handed. The dialog in the original trilogy was not the best either, but the actors made it work well.
@brainboob There's not a lot an actor can do with, "I don't like sand etc." or "Hold like you did on Naboo etc". Lucas knows he's bad at dialogue, he could have hired anyone he wanted to write it, but no.
There's not a lot an actor can do with 'scruffy looking nerf herder' or 'I was going to the tosche station to pick up some power converters' or 'Get in there, you big furry oaf' etc. But they did it anyway. Good actors work with what they are forced to.
@PokemonPinecone PPPretending they were in pain over not being together, also babies don` t pretend abnd older kids that opretend to be in pain aaren`t realy good at tit, acting like you ar in pain, whe you are not is very very very hard.
@Michael55443 wel yeah idk know about hayden but natalie's a really great actress(not to mention human being).to bad georgle didn't know how to direct her skills
@brainboob The Originals perhaps. The prequels are fine. Don't be a fool and jump on the bandwagon of criticizing the prequel dialogue because the person next to you does when you probably haven't seen the films in years. The dialogue is perfectly okay.
@brainboob Those lines you mentioned sounded bad in the original movies too. George Lucas cannot write good dialogue to save his life. And stop using Christenson as a scapegoat. I notice you're avoiding discussing Natalie Portman, who acted well in other movies at the time but in Star Wars she had to say some terrible lines and it didn't work. Now stop trolling.
@brainboob So, you have two accounts eh? Anyways, you can't judge acting worth a damn. I myself am an actor, and the energy and work Christensen put into the role was incredible. He was extremely good at being a very dark and hateful character, the intensity of his presence is something I haven't seen in any other movie. He was also fantastic during the scenes of getting burned. And he again brought he charm of the "good" character in the beginning of the film.
I can't judge acting. I'll have you know that I happen to think the entire cast of the lord of the rings trilogy was fantastic, without exception. To me that is a sort of bench mark for great acting. I do not feel the same way about the acting in the prequel sw films. In fact I think the acting was absolute best in the phantom menace, the only prequel film a lot of star wars fans seem to unequivocally hate. Christenson just wasn't believable, at all. Period.
@brainboob Christensen had done some incredible work in his two films, and if you can't see it you're blind. He's played an arrogant but good natured jedi padawan, a tortured soul, an agonized lover, a hateful sith lord, a sympathetic sith lord, a vengeful jedi padawan, an axious jedi knight, a worried husband, etc. The list goes on.
I'll tell you thins about hayden christenson, hedid an okay acting job in jumper and awake, but that's all I can say about it. There is something about his voice which is just, not conducive to suspension of disbelief. He translated as someone reading a few lines, and doing a piss poor job at it too.
@brainboob You think he was better in Jumper than in Star Wars? Judging by all the bullshit you've said, this is all I have left to say. As Obi-Wan said in Revenge Of The Sith "Well then you are lost!"
Well sir I'd say you did a hell of a job! It's near impossible to imagine Luke, Leah, or Hans as anyone else. It makes me feel a little bit better about myself when I extend projects out because I'm looking for near perfection.
Too bad he didn't do this for the prequel trilogy.

@MerryChristmasJedi I disagree. Episode III, in fact, is my favorite Star Wars film, hands down.
