Damn, I remember this commercial like yesterday. My brother got a Sega Master System in 1988, my nephew got a Nintindo Entertainment System in 1990, and I got a Super Nintendo in 1994.
From October 1985, they actaully sold the NES action set for $249 which included ROB. If you didn't want the worthless ass robot, you purchased the power set for $199. The 80s RULE!!!!
Pretty long, actually. I last saw it in the basement several years ago, but I think we left it there when my parents moved out of the old house. But since there were only two games made for it, we effectively stopped using it after 1987 or so.
We got rid of our NES when it crapped out on us around '93 or so, but we already upgraded to SNES by then. Ironic that we had the robot longer than the system itself.
@J0nasBrotherHater I got my NES for 50 bucks on March 28, 2006... it's not worth 100 bucks. Not in 2006, not in 2008 when you posted your comment, not in 2012... The toploader, on the other hand, is worth 150 or so now.

I could never get Robbie to work right, those damn gyros. He'd never press the buttons right. So I put him back in his box and never used it again.

That's what happens when you're playing 40 HOURS STRAIGHT with your NES.

We actually had the whole freaking shebang for Christmas in 1985, including the robot.
And Super Mario Bros. came separately.
