  • Ladies and Gentleman, EMERSON, LARD AND PALMER!!

  • good.

  • I didn´t know, that they performed recently, hope they will do again and then also in Germany where one of the greatest fans is waiting for them since many years.

  • Ray Winston

  • Maybe there's a tribute band i could go see that would emulate the much earlier years.

  • Is it just me or does Greg look like William Shatner here?

  • Sad...

  • I feel sorry for Greg Lake. Does he not know there are remedies like lap band surgery that could help him with his weight prolem?

  • to the people bitching about how they're fat , old can't play well,et cetera, let's see you do what you do great 40 years from now!

  • @blondago56 Well...the comments that surround their inability to play are indeed valid. Feel bad about this...

  • This kicks so much ass there is no more ass in the Universe left to kick!

  • I was there. What a 3 players! Great!

  • I was there. And it was awesome.

  • Maybe Randy Newman is right about aging rock stars.... but seeing this brought back 1973 and listening to the quad sound on the floor on the Brain Salad Surgery tour. They didn't miss a note. Keith even brought out his dinosaur synthesizer rig (although no Hammond organs - he's gone synth for those), and Carl has doubled his drum kit. Greg - still love you, man. Thanks for shooting and posting this!

  • boy did greg lake get fat!

  • This sucks. They got fuckin old and fat and lousy.

  • I don't know what you guys who mention they should retire or that they're too old are talking about.

Maybe it's you that's too young and/or don't know their music too well.

If you listen closely (ok the sound isn't too good on this vid), you'll find that these guys didn't miss a note ... or a beat.

    Have a listen.

They played the piece like they should have.

  • @BedouinThanassis What?!

  • When I heard ELP in 2010 I could really hear a change as a result of age, and, quite simply, joints & tendons wearing out, but they brought me joy on so many many occasions alone, with friends, etc, and I learned my instrument and a string arrangement style from ELP, I learned to appreciate classical music through them. Mocking them would be the equivalent of sending my folks out on to an ice flow in the ocean cause they're now old. Show respect for the music and joy they've given us. Bravo ELP!

  • There's a reason the word retirement is part of our language.

  • @cungar1001 EARRTH YOU

  • How much does Greg Lake weigh? He's got to cut back on the PIE!!!

  • I feel bad, to have arthritis and still want to play....amazing....I have tendonitis in both elbows.....still drumming though I know one day......

  • oh man...this is sad....

  • Give em a break, they wrote and played some of the most insane complex and hard-to-play music ever, probably most people now can't even do this much. Besides it's not like they went on a world tour expecting millions, they just want to give the fans a few more shows. And in addition to powering through several wrist injuries (E n P), and bein a few years out of the game, all of them, emerson has to play most songs including this in a different key than it was writtn to match L's deepening voice

  • THE 3 GREATEST PROGRESSIVE MUSICIANS EVER!!!!

  • It's being released on DVD guys! I was there and can confirm that it was a fantastic show :D

  • My brother was there. He paid extra to stay in London just for this, I was so jealous.

  • People underestimate how difficult it is in a pure physical sense to perform music like this. I don't expect a pro basketball player to perform at age 65 like he did when he was 30...Thats why they should retire

BTW type search this on YT for very cool version: University of the Arts 'Z' Big Band - Karn Evil 9 - ELP

  • @FairDealDan I disagree, Never stop doing what you love because you are "old"

  • sorry, hard core elp fan here, but this is terrible!

  • i was there!!!

  • ...THE SHOW THAT NEVER ENDS.....BRAVO!!!

  • thanks for posting wish i was there

    ]

  • Since 1992 and Black Moon, former superstar progrockband ELP have successfully managed to destroy their once high rated image. Wy didn't they stop after Works Volume 1 ???? This is ridiculous. I was a big ELP fan from the start in 1970, but this hurts. RIP-Emerson, X - Large and Palmer.

  • Some of you seem to imply that because your ears are just oh so sensitive and the music no longer meets your strict standards, ELP no longer has the right to perform live and the rest of us who still enjoy them don't have the right to see them perform any more. You have the option to NOT watch them perform live or watch them on YouTube if you find them so difficult to tolerate.

  • Please come to Los Angeles this fall!!!

  • If everyone is intent on filming at these shows. Please use a Flip HD and hold it still will ya !

  • seriously if it is about the music (and ELP was the best) then they should know when to stop. this is butchery, it isn't the ELP I love. Everyone loving on it is filling in the crap gaps with their imagination...fine. Love fest for old prog rockers. It's not what the music was meant to be heard like. Any cover band did this you guys would destroy them.

  • @Hopspop Agree w. everything you wrote. Love ELP, but this is hard to watch/listen to.

  • @Hopspop Okay let's see you live that long and sound as half as good as these guys. Look at Pink Floyd in the 80's they couldn't pull off a song without 10 backing musicians. You could at least give them props for doing it themselves. Keith had carpal tunnel surgery and still plays! Cover bands are just that PUPPETS. Not a creative force that should be respected for their far reaching influence. If you don't get old you die. Go "burnout for all I care and be forever young and ignorant.

  • @Hopspop I have to agree with you. ELP is still my all-time favorite band, and the reason I started drumming. I only saw them 5 times in the 70's (once with the full orchestra at Madison Square Garden). But to this day, memories of those 5 shows STILL blow me away, and when I watch the videos of that era, I can still feel that electric magic. But watching this, and seeing how far the mighty have fallen is very sad to me too. Once you've seen a diamond sparkle, a lump of carbon is uninspiring.

  • William Shatner on bass

  • @Hopspop I have to say that is pretty funny

  • greg should be playing an electric guitar, not a friggin fender jazz bass.

  • @Interst890 Are you a guitar player or what? A Jazz Bass is an electric guitar. He mostly played bass on all of their classic stuff except for the songs where he played an acoustic guitar. A Fender Jazz bass is a kick ass instrument. Many heavy songs have one on the recording.

  • @electricvideoperson i acutally am a bass player, PLUS i own a jazz bass, so i sure do know where you're coming from when you say it's a kick-ass instrument. basses are very much underappreciated and seldom used to their full sonic potential in most bands (high-register notes, slapping, trebly tone, etc). thank god for prog and jazz fusion which helped completely change the role of bass. i just thought that greg could've been using an electric guitar for those belting notes in the KE9 solo.

  • Greg's a bit larger but he's got that voice of his back! This is light years ahead of where his voice was in the 90's

  • damn greg lake blew up

  • It's amazing how badly emersons hands are affected by arthritis yet he could still play so well

  • my god, Greg Lake is practically obese by now. Why did he let himself go?

  • Lucky bastards in London.....when are they coming to Detroit?

  • I think anyone who is disappointed that ELP got together one last time to do a live show is probably fearful, or at least not accepting, of the reality of aging. Voices deepen, fingers, hands, and arms aren't as limber or quick. But they're still fine musicians and the music is awesome, so why shouldn't we hear them perform live again ? If you want to hear exactly what's on the recordings of the 70's, then you kind of miss the point of ELP's wild and crazy improvisational quality....

  • @tempname1100 Agreed!

  • Why are they even attempting this again? Just let the memories stay strong and vivid, without this sad lament to what used to be.

I saw them in their prime at The Oval cricket ground circa 72 and they were superb. One only has to listen to their first album to realise this will never really work in the here and now.

    Long live great memories.

  • These guys are in like their 60's now and they STILL kick ass!!!!!

  • HIGH VOLTAGE HEADLINERS ANNOUNCED AND TICKETS ON SALE - TUESDAY 7TH DECEMBER FOR 2011

  • Why does keith emerson played the fake Hammond Organ when he has a real Hammond Organ?

  • @omrixeren I think the one on the bottom is a Hammond fitted into a roadcase.

  • I tell you what, Carl Palmers fitness would put a man half his age to shame

  • @clavdig I saw him and his band in Toronto, and he seemed to get faster as the show went on!!!

  • Makes me sad to see my heroes get aged ELP FOREVER!!!!!!!!!

  • How does Keith Emerson have the same hair from the 70s?

Why is Greg Lake going bald?

It must be a hidden clue to the TRUE MEANING OF THE LYRICS!!!!

    I love ELP.

  • kieth is fighting arthritis hardcore as u can see so just be thankfull that talented bands like this still have the courage to play im one of their hugest fans saw them 3 times and all were great specially vegas where we were so close to the stage it was awsome

  • Keith Emerson does not have the dexterity he used to ,but it's great to see them anyway.

  • @pruneytoes you was there, right? So, man, could you pleace tell, did pro-cameras capture this show?

  • @DoctorGonzo32 As you can see in the video, there were some big cameras right in front of the stage. There were also some raised up behind the crowd. As far as I know they will not be releasing the video, but it did appear on Sky Arts network along with other High Voltage performances in late August. Hopefully they re-broadcast it!

  • @DoctorGonzo32 from what I have heard they will be releasing a video of the show, and I hope so,I came down from Glasgow just to see them and it was worth it.

  • @DoctorGonzo32 I know you posted this a year ago but the dvd is out now, got it a couple of days ago =]

  • @rodrigozamo yes, I know :-)

  • @DoctorGonzo32 The High Voltage 2010 Festival is on VH1 Classic tonight, hope they show ELP on there!!!!

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

  • But are these guys ever going to tour again? There was an acoustic Emerson and Lake concert last spring, but I'm waiting for the full electric show. Wow, this show also had ZZ Top. Saw Palmer last year with Asia.

    Greg loose some weight!

  • OK to all you haters out there. In the early 70's (I was there) there was no MIDI and all the synths were mono, and Keith was unmatched for ability and speed. How about giving him credit for upgrading to polyphonic equipment and re arrainging the songs to match his current ability level so we all can enjoy a live performance! He will always be the greatest!!

  • They look so bored! So glad I didn't fly out for this!

  • First Impression part I is better than part II. I guess this is the obvious opener, though.

  • Well...I'd give Emerson a pass for his playing here, given his carpel tunnel syndrome problems (that and a short rehearsal period) but while the nostalgia effect is certainly fun and the showmanship was still there...the actual playing was certainly sub-par.

Also Emerson is 65 soon to be 66 in November....age catches up to you eventually.

  • Is that a Korg OASYS?

  • I was there Greg was bigger, Carl played better with Asia the day before and yet as a lifelong prog rock fan, I am so glad I made the effort. Im 50 an I wish Id seen them in their prime, circa 1972/3. How can anyone complain though? They are legends after all.

  • Keith.....the Hammond C3 is inches BELOW the Korg synth!

  • Oh god, they used to be one of the most amazing bands, maybe a reunion was a bad idea. No guitar, tons of missed notes, tempo issues, the whole thing was a mess. I'm not saying it was the worst performance I've ever witnessed, but it doesn't even come close to the epic-ness during the 70's.

  • @nogatooba

Yeah, it´s sad. It seems they did not rehearse too much.

  • Did they play any new music?

  • ¡¡¡POR FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!! EMERSON LAKE Y PALMER EN 2010 EN YOUUUTUUUUBEEEE!! GRACIAS MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS!!!

QUIERO EL CD O EN MP3!!!!!!!

  • what an atmosphere when they brought out Emerson's kit. Was stood there in the front row all day. Refused to move

  • This probably why they should never have reformed. Even if it is a one off. Keith misses notes and doesn't use both hands. Carl's drumming is nothing like that of the original recording which may have something to do with the reduced sized drum kit. and Greg is playing bass when the more dramatic elements required a lead guitar. The performance smacks of a bad sound check and an easy pay day.

  • Oh, Jesus what´s this ?

I loved them most. But this is........ oh dear.

  • @drjekyll66 I think fucking awful is the words you're looking for.

  • @grumpyoldgitt

You are so right. I´m a victim of my education. Fu...... Non I can´t.

    Many Greetings my friend.

  • THANKS for posting the video. I was going to travel to London for the High Voltage Festival. Unfortunately my work schedule said, "NO". ELP is my favorite group of all time. Can't wait for future postings!!!

  • Masters...

  • I live in Iowa and saw the guys here in June of 1977. The greatest band of all time. Even with Keith's hand issues, he still plays better than ANY keyboard player out there. Oh how lucky you all were that actually went to this concert. Hey Keith, Greg, and Carl, what are the chances you will go on a quick tour in the US?

  • Looks like the Moog packed up at 1:05. Great to see the guys playing together once again.

  • Thanks for posting. Always loved this band. Living here in Calif, would never get to see this live. Thanks!

  • From all of us who couldn't make the trip across the pond THANK YOU for this!!!! They sound fantastic, I can't wait to hear Knife Edge. What else did they play??

  • @inchargenow: If I get it right (just a rough memory of the sequence (anyone please correct me )

    1. Karn Evil9 -1st Impr

    2. Knife Edge

    4. From the Beginning

    5. Lucky Man

    6. Tarkus

    8. Fanfare for the Common Man

  • @RTBSeries

They played Bitches cristal (after karn, I think),Barbarian (I tink after bitches cristal) , touch & go and farewell to arms too, but I don´t remember exactly the running order.

Fanfare/Drum solo/Rondo would be more appropiate.

    Greetings from Spain.

  • @RTBSeries I downloaded the audio of this show and the set list says 01. Karn Evil First Impression Pt 2 02. The Barbarian 03. Bitches Crystal 04. Knife Edge 05. From The Beginning 06. • Why isn't Keith playing the REAL Hammond C3 right in front of him?!?!

  • Where.

    Are.

    The.

    Moog.

    Leads????

One portamento note at the end? That's it?

  • awesome. Waited from 12pm at the front of the stage just to see these. So glad Emerson brought the stunt keyboard and the knives. Think Lake was a bit pissed off tho with the feedback at one point.. Palmer gotta be greatest ever drummer. AMAZING SHOW

  • @carlmurden "have you walked through the winds of FEEDBACK FEEDBACK" lol the whole show was amazing it's such a shame that it was their last, i can still hear those cannons

  • Keith should keep his hair this way. It makes him look much, much younger!!!!

  • Great to see them back! Love ELP! They sounded pretty damn good! Would love to see a full tour announced!

  • wow Greg lakes really gotten low

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RECORDING ELP AT THIS CONCERT!!!!!

THE GREATEST BAND IN THE WORLD MAKING HISTORY ONCE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

  • Truly amazing after all these decades, ELP still reigns supreme! Thanks for posting, any more videos from you lucky fans who where there?

  • Comment removed

  • Pruneytoes: If you don't mind, what is the make & model of the video camera you used for this event? I am looking for a good video camera that makes the transition from camera to computer a snap. Thanks in advance!!

  • @Nitebeat It's a FujiFilm FinePix JZ300 with 10x optical zoom and 12.1 MP. Only $179 at Microcenter, I'd highly recommend it.

  • @pruneytoes : Thanks Pruney - much appreciated! :-)

  • Let us return to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and in ELP what is in ELP!

The music of ELP for me is a major art dissatisfies the late mister Gainsbourg there.

    that of happiness

    Thank pruneytoes for sharing

Rendons à Cesar ce qui est à Cesar et à ELP ce qui est à ELP !

La musique d'ELP pour moi est un art majeur n'en déplaise à feu Monsieur Gainsbourg .

  • Nice!

  • Found Barbarian undestiguishable sound wise but Knife Edge was perfect

  • Good to see they did the complete Part 2 this time! And Carl back on stainless steel drums!

  • I see that hell has well and truly frozen over :) Great to see the boys together again...but why is Keith playing the entire song on the Oasys? The Hammond is right under it. And where's the Moog lead?

  • great to see. IF there's a next time, I will seriously consider leaping over the pond...

  • this is amazing! thank u so much! I'm from LA and was so bummed that i couldn't be there to see this!

  • This has always been one of my least favourite ELP songs but I thought it came across well last night. The material from the first album rocked hardest. Did anyone capture 'Knife Edge' or 'The Barbarian' on video?

  • @flashbackcaruso Karn EVil 9 is one of my favirotes! I've played this first impression on a numerous of occations now and love it every time. I thought that was an incredible performance last night!

  • @flashbackcaruso I did record Knife Edge. I will be uploading it later along with several more of their songs.

  • In behalf of those who couldn`n t make it around the globe: THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU FOR POSTING!

  • I was there, a bit more to the left then you were. It was an amazing show. Part of me wants them to tour so i can see them again, another part doesn't so i can gloat :P

  • Thanks pruney for uploading this precious and unique mterial, 500 characters in this box are not enough to describe, admire and appreciate this performance, living legends, masters of the stage, real professionals, a dream come tue ...

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! I too could not make the trip and was in a very SAD state yesterday! This is just what the doctor ordered. ELP LIVES!!!

  • Geat show!!!!! i wish they make a world tour once again for us !!!

  • Thanks for the video! Couldn't make the show and this is much appreciated! LONG LIVE ELP!

  • Welcome back ELP.

It was a great gig and I really, really, really hope they are here to stay (at least for a while). Great music, great band and High Voltage was, for me, a well organised and brilliant event.
