This is the FIRST video that I´ve seen that is made with the 7D and that does have a real film look. Ive been doing some research before I buy the Camera and been very disappointed with the results people post on youtube. Ive seen the absolutely most pathetic music videos and shorts where people claim the have achieve the film look...
But this video does bring hope to the users of the 7D. Thanks for posting.
Nice video mate! Nice colour work. Was wondering, how do you not get any rolling shutter on your footage with fast movements? Is the 7D just really that good? I shot with a Nikon D5000 and the rolling shutter is so bad that it looks like a David Lynch bad dream. Am planning to get a 550d but am so afraid of rolling shutter, especially because I work with visual effects and a lot of compositing, which dont play well with rolling shutter. Again, nice camera work!
To be honest, I I find your color corrected footage to have that annoying look where it seems washed out and blown out. But that's just me. You should try using a polarizing filter to intensify the colors and make everything pop out more. Just a suggestion. :)
@jmeisner14 .... Video is amazing.. I have buyed Canon EOS 7D recently and dont know how to take videos like this.. Can you please let me know how can I take videos like this? I will be thankful to you if you help me out.. Thanks in advance..! :-)
I like this video, you should look into using the program called Color, so much better than the 3-way color corrector in FC. You have more control, give it a shot and i guarantee you wont be disappointed!
Man, these are some really amazing shots! What equipment did you use from 00:30 to 00:52? I was also wondering about when you use the 3 color circles, what do you want in each of the circles? Like, what are you changing the shadows to look like? Darker or lighter? etc.
Hi, was just wondering what compression you used for the upload of this video. I use compressor and and having trouble achieving the same quality. Another problem I'm getting with footage from this camera uploaded to youtube is a slight jitteryness and horizontal flickering lines occasionally.
Is this camera good to use if you use it for JUST video? I'm not much a photographer as much as I am filmmaker. WOW does it EVER look better than anything from my hv20!
Amazing! I think you went a little overboard on the color saturation but the quality and smoothness with the glidecam is fantastic. I use the Canon XL1s and I want the 7D real bad:(
The indiSlider is really good? Because my internet is not ok , so the videos keep making little stops and i can't notice if is really good or not. Actually i order couple days ago and the order is 'processed' but i have no tracking number and they never answered my e-mail. You have problems to buy with indiFOCUS?
The color correction was only with 3-way of final cut ? no Magic Bullet or similiar ?
@Johnnyboybravo I assume they can. I just made simple color corrections in Final Cut. It's called the 3-color corrector in FC. Let's you make adjustments to the Shadows, Mids, and Highlights individually. I'd be surprised if Vegas did not have a comparable filter.
@Johnnyboybravo Yes... Go to your clips and click the video effect button roughly looks like this >{}<. Or right click and go to video effects. you have many options... Sony Levels... Sony Color Corrector... Sony Color Corrector 2 or Sony Curves. Sony Curves is REALLY easy and convenient to use. Any more questions feel free to message me!
I have the 5d Mark II. and really like the 7d. I don't have a problem with jelly effect... I just work with the camera so that does not happen.. but I would luv to have 24 p. I waiting to see what canon will do for the 5d Mark II. Great movie and I do like the original color better... keep it up!
Nice footage! I kinda like the original shots better though, the processed ones are a bit over the top to my taste. The cinematography has pretty professional feel to it (I assume it was improvised?)
GREAT test footage man. Even for a quick cut these shots look excellent!!
How do you feel about the manual controls for the camera? I know something like the XH-A1 gives you complete control of the shot, so to what extent does the 7d give you that, if even? Or do you feel sometimes that the machine is dictating the look more than you are?
I need no convincing in terms of quality; your test footage here is proof enough. My only concern is being a prisoner to the limitaitons of the cam.
The manual controls (for video) are fantastic. You have all the functions you would have shooting with the 7D as a still camera. There is a learning curve from traditional camcorders, but still great with the manual functions. The main drawback are options with audio input. There are a few solutions, but I would just suggest utilizing a separate audio recorder with xlr inputs.
Sorry whoever posted last... I meant to hit reply and hit 'remove' instead...
I prefer the 7D vs. the 5DII because of the variable frame rate options and the 'jelly' effect is WAY less of an issue on the 7D. Plus, the price is a great little bonus :)
@jmeisner14 I had not heard about the jelly effect being less on the 7D before. That makes me feel even better about my purchase. I had been wanting the 5D for some time now, and only found out about the 7D last week. How I missed it until now is beyond me. However, the 7D is in my price rang eand it seems like it is a bit more streamlined than the 5D. Thanks for the post.
Did you shoot this in 30 or 24? Looks like 24 but I can't be sure. I'm shooting with this camera tomorrow. Have a glidecam too but balancing it with this camera stinks.
Thanks nuno. It may depend on your need. I made the purchase because I needed a camera with cinematic potential. The lens options with the 7D expand your range of what looks you can pull off for not a ton of money.
I also use an XH-A1 for (which is also great) for event coverage and projects that don't require a cinematic feel. The audio options on that camera are fantastic and what cause me to use that.
However, I have a feeling I will be leaning more towards the 7D. It's SO good! :)

So you added contrast and saturation what else? BTW with 7D/5D you will always have to add contrast or it looks super flat

is it true 7D has problems with autofocus? is it good for filmaking/music videos?
hitm4n04 2 years ago
You can autofocus before you record. Once you are recording video, you can't autofocus. It's not perfect, but it still has a bit of feature.
It's great for film making and music videos. I shot a music video with it last week and was SUPER impressed with what I got.
