There is only one Jody Watley! I grow up on Shalamar and your beauty, style and that one in a million unique voice stood out always, I mean the guys were cool but for me you were SALAMAR for me. Don't know you but I love you hope to marry you one day. Lol
ROTFL!!! You showed THEM just how "replaceable" you were Miss Jody!! I'm sure MILLIONS of Shalamar fans will agree that YOU most definitely had a distinctive voice and sound that was CRITICAL to the group's success. As much as I love Howard Hewitt's voice he was not the only "voice" of that group!! You boom so clearly in those background vocals that even in my second alto register I can only sing the backing of "A Night to Remember" in your soprano register because it's all I can hear!!
This is so awesome! Your are so amazing! And you know, i have never seen an interview of you but from your videos, I always thought you were personable. Thank you!
I want to know what Leon Sylvers III has to say about Dick Griffey. Leon was the mastermind behind all those Solar groups. Leon should be a millionaire 10 times over!!
Jody Watley has a beautiful spirit, strong black woman! If there was one woman that I would look at as an inspiration it would be her. But I wish she would sing with the group again just for old times sake. Oh well old times are gone forever.
I appreciate that you made these videos. I'm only on Part 2, but I'm stoked. I'm 42 and my male cousin is a few years older than me. We were so hyped watching that episode of unsung because we LOVED the original Shalmar. I never even knew about the later replacement folks until I saw that episode. Shalamar and you Jody were and are still truly awesome. I love Unsung, but on behalf of us fans who care to know, thank you for breaking down the real truth! Much continued success in your endeavors!
I have just gained so much respect for this lady as not only an artist, but a woman. Thank you for being so honest and open about how dirty the industry is and some of those dirty individuals that tried to oppress you. A great glimpse at how good can triumph over evil. Individuals that know the person she is talking about in this clip should feel embarrassed for him.
Jody, now that you know the business side of the music, please, we the Shalamar fans wants you to please do a come back concert. I am pretty sure no one will dare take advantage of you guys anymore especially now that you know better. Shalamar fans, lets sign a petition to Jody to reconsider and lets have her , Jefferey Daniel, and Howard Hewett do concerts which will be nights to remember....From a die hard Shalamar fan
@exceeduus77 After watching all of these video responses by Jody (about how she was treated by Dick Griffey, Howard Hewett, Jeffrey Daniesl, et al) I would never request that she return to Shalamar...it's more than enough if she sings one of the songs during her live shows as a solo act...and I understand now why she usually starts off with ...."Catch this...cause it's going to go quick!"
@noinwe says Dick Griffery was a businessman. Jody says in this clip that Shalamar weren't the first and wouldn't be the last to have bad contracts. I guess the guy would be a millionaire keeping all of the profits for himself and giving $500 dollar advances. I'm glad Jody handled her business by leaving, she was rewarded for having the guts to step out. It paid off for her all the way around. That is all.
i use to see ms watley in the 80's in la just strolling up melrose averegularly .. always perfectly poised and dressed. hair swept back and clean. dark sunglasses.make up modest and well done. head to toe in black she was just so classy looking and the posture of a dancer and she walked she more like glided up the ave.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
She is just bitter, because she was not the vocal point of the group. Dick was a business man. Jody had marginal talent, at best. He got what he could get out her & it was time to focus on the real talent, Howard Hewitt. She had a desent solo career, so get over it. If it wan't for Dick she would have just been, a dancer on Soul Train., working at Walmart or KFC.
@noinwe, I live for moments like this! It seem as though your delayed obtuse of the turth is as far as the east is from the west. People, this is way Doctors prescribe prenatal care to expectant mothers...Though he's dead, let's keep it real. Dick was a swindler, extortionist, a third class stick-up artist. He had nothing to do with Jody's Blue print formula of success that was planned before sand in the hour glass of her life was created. Now, take that to the bank!
@shaftunlimited You live for moments like this, well that pretty sad, escpecially sence you really have no clue. Dick was definelty no swindler. He made the careers of many big acts. Do your homework. I've done mine.
@noinwe, no homework needed being done. I worked for the second-rate extortioner. He was no visionary to create careers as Berry Gordy did, he just provided a platform for the act, all the groups previously made themselves. Shalamar- an act before signing to Solar. The Whhispers-many hits from the 60's. Lakeside- a hot band from Ohio with marginal hits pre-Solar. So, before you come to court, do YOUR homework, to not be crossed examined!
@shaftunlimited,Miss Watley, in life we have haters. They keep us strong, on point and little do they know, they're our Chauffeurs that drives us to the road of success, that's why I keep employment avaliable, announcing, "JOB OPENING...HATAERS NEEDED!" So, miss Watley, when haters come for you, tell'em to bring a friend along, you have work for them, too, then, sit back and enjoy the ride
@noinwe@noinwe, Dick Griffey's concern was never about Jody, Jeffrey, and contrariwise, Howard, or any other artist on Solar. In his mind, no artist on the label was bigger than he. So, to make it seem as though Ms. Watley is left owing Dick an indebted gratitude for stealing monies that she's owed, a lack of loyalty in your meager conception of the situation, I call it, big pimping jumping off. With, or without Dick, Jody was meant to be. The late Jheryl Busby saw to that.!
@noinwe, DECENT: Let's look at the definition and the correct spelling of this word. DECENT: respectable, or adequate. When speaking of Dick, Solar, or Shalamar the word should be DECEPTION, because everything you've read (post Jody's exit), specific interviews by Howard were frauds and illusion of grandeur. Funny how Ms. Watley's DECENT solo career has cemented it's time in music history. Checkout Billboard, Grammy MTV,VH1, AMA's BET award's chart, then Shalamar's, maybe we can talk further
@noinwe, "got what he could get out of her & focused on the real talent!" Well, it was always Dick's M.O. to evaporate his victims. I believed if he had been gay he could've sucked a golf ball through a garden hose the way he'd sucked employable service from an artist. I'd say he lost coverage of real talent when placing the bank on Howard, failing to a fault and now he and Jeffrey has returned back to the plantation. Maybe the two men should've stopped at KFC or Wallmart for work. Better pay.
@noinwe, Yes, Dick was a business man. So was Al Capone, but his conglomerate transaction usually turned into a blood bath. Since when did bad business electives make ethical benevolence? You say Jody HAD marginal talent, most would say she HAS the X factor that's kept her respect from the likes of Carmen Electra, the Blackeyed peas, Jamie Foxx and even, the late, great Michale Jackson. Hey Jeffrey, Howard, admit you two have been beat by a girl....Boo, hoo!
@noinwe,Jody's vocals were the focal point of Shalamar. it was never Howard's. The sound and style was created before he was introduced to the music world. Leon Sylvers always created the hits around HER voice. Wasn't it funny though, for her voice NOT to be THE VOCAL POINT OF THE GROUP, Shalamar never had another hit after her departing, but she went from singing background, to singing for the President of the United States. I say that's great for MARGINAL TALENT! How you doin'?
@shaftunlimited Yes Dick was a very tough business man & he kept a tight grip on his groups. But far from a pimp, thats the nature of the business. He was well respected. Some might not like some of his tactics. But without Dick, ther would have been no Shalamar, Whispers, Babyface(The Deele), Midnight Star, Klymaxx, Dynasty, Lakeside. Now take that to the bank.
@noinwe, That bank is empty! He was not WELL respected in the business and barely liked. You're speaking from a parent/child paralled correspondent, i'm speaking from a employee/employer affilation. No one liked his tactics they were unethical, but we expected nothing 'less-than' coming from someone with the moral values of a degenerate safecracker. Oh, yeah, as i mentioned per-post, the acts you mentioned, except Dynasty had (marginal success) before Dick, and some much bigger afterwards!
@noinwe, Dick's tight grip was called CONTROL which has always been a pimp's method. His Business ethics were as backward and illegal as you comments and being allowed to travles from one YOUTUBE boarder to the next. He was the owner of the company, manager, business manager and the list continues. You may find that to be in you Rain Men mind respected business ethics, but, legally, it's called conflict of intrest....which carries 16 months to 5 years federal.
@shaftunlimited you are so right. a better voice does not always tranlate to commercial acceptance and your ballard/ ross expamples are point on. florence could blow the wig and false eyelashes off ms ross. but berry was a true visionary he recognized ms ross had that sweetness to her voice. the same way jody vocals were so perfectly mathced to leon sylvers productions. that said when combined howard and jodys vocals were just beyond perfect and to add jermaine stewart sound alike background
@hassan1814, thanks for that comment. Very sweet of you. There's haters everywhere drinking many different flavors of haterade...it seems to be more popular than Kool-aid these days, I just hope Miss Watley understands. But, I will say for those hating on her beautiful voice....what happen to Shalamar after her departure, and she removed her vocals and another hit hit was never heard from by the group since? I'm just saying....But, don't shoot the messenger...Just facts!
@noinwe, Bitter? Bitterness is for those who care of certain situations, Ms. Watley is so far removed from her ex singing partners. Your claims of Jody being bitter holds just as much truth as Bishop Eddie Long (stroke). Very few know when Jody departed the group, she assisted her replacement, De'lisa (and Jeffrey's, Mickey) to fulfill into the position in the group. So if giving a helping hand and becoming a success makes one bitter? Jody i'd say remain sour grapes!
@shaftunlimited I read all of you clueless responses. Naw Dick wasn't a pimp, he was a business man. You obiously know nothing about the music businees & the in's & out's of it. Jeffery & Jody wasn't in the group becaue of their singing ability. It was because of their stage presence. I know a little more about the group then u may think. Shalamar had great songs, thanks to Leon Sylvers. The royalties anyone in Shalamar was due, was so small that it did even put a dent in the monies owed.
@noinwe u are so wrong. yes jody and jeffrey were hired orginally because of stage presence. but it turned out she could actually sing and even write, she was denied that ability but got to write many hits as a solo artists while the likes of howard hewitt had to marry nia peeples as his trophy wife get real. if this dick person had a clue he would give his artists some creative freedom cause in the end no one should care where the songs come from as long as they are hits and hits = dollars.
@noinwe, maybe the problem is, you don't know enough! The difference between a business man and a pimp? A man of integrity pays his employees, a hoe never sees her money she gives her pimp. Maybe instead of focusing so much time on my (knowing) comments, maybe check out some of the other former employees, band memebers and even former Shalamar lead vocalist who's posted on UNFILTERED....we all can't be wrong. Good try for attempting to have a cads back!
@noinwe, hahaha! the royalties Shalamar was due, not only build the (then) Solar building that is now called "Edmondson" towers, but also made Dick a very rich man since they were his number one group at (THAT time) plus not to mention Ranch, cars and houses. He was repaid back ten folds. You don't have a CLUE who you dealing with and what I know. Baby, the cheerleader job's over, you're no longer on payroll, release the pom-poms and go get a real job. better yet, send me your reseme'
@shaftunlimited Now I know you are an imbecile. Dick was a force in the music industry. Read some of the article online about him. From Babyface to Quincy Jones. The only people that knew about Lakeside, was a few people in their hometown. The Whispers had very marginal success before Solar & Griffey made Shalamar, Midnight Star, The Deele, Babyface, etc. Of course Dick became a very rich man, he was suppose to, he was the Founder Of Solar. Now it comes out, you're a bitter ex-employee.
@noinwe Griffey, a FORCED TO BE RECKONED in the industry? Now I truly know a sack of bricks has a better chance of floating on water than you on this subject. Please explain how Griffey was mover & shaker (and don't instant on others testamonies) in the industry. Maybe in the world of SOLAR, but never with the BIG BOYS who really mattered. Oh, that's right, you're still ramsacking Google for information of the school he build in Ghana. Trust me girl, there's none there. Happy trails
@noinwe ex-employee? Yes? Bitter? Baby, never! Honored to have had the experienced to work at Solar? Yes. It introduced a world of existance I dismissed myself from. Pugnacious! Evolving me into greatness. So how could I be bitter? But, facts are facts, Griffey was not a great man. Have the industry ever honored him during his life time? Berry Gordy has been honored by all facet of the industry. Music & movies. Try Googling that FACT while Googling for the Griffey school for girls in Ghana
@noinwe I did read some of the testamonies in the article on Griffey that had been REQUESTED (by his one time assistant). I DECLINED! Kenny is just an all around good person. Quincy, why would I listen to him? He was never faithful, or honest to any of his wives...... I guess he and Griffey shared that common demoninator! Oops... did I say that?
@shaftunlimited Just face it, you're are lost, on this subject. Now any & everything you say can & will be dimissed because, you are a bitter ex-employee. Don't hate because, Dick was a self made millionare. The brotha came from the projects, in Nashville & made something of himself & on the way helped the careers of some major players in the music business. Yes, Dick was not liked by some & was revered by others. But thats ok because, he wasn't suppose to be liked by everyone.
@noinwe You proved my point, she has your attention, here you are again posting, lol.If you pay attention she is talking about something much deeper than who could sing better and all of that. She is talking about personal worth and value as she was maturing as a teenager and speaking on HER feelings about not getting paid. Enjoy your haterade, but get a clue for real. Just because YOU might not like her music or voice it makes no difference like shaftunlimited said it's already in the books LOL
@chicsensibilities, what I don't get, is, why everyone believes the one who (they believe to be the better singer) feels that that artist has the commercial sound to cross over to become favorites among the masses. History has proved over time a typical voice has never held a light to a unique sound. Example...Florence Ballard/Diana Ross. Need I say more? If Dick was a true visionary like Berry Gordy, Solar could've rest on the shoulders of Jody, but with the bank on Howard, it went belly up!
@shaftunlimited, in life we have haters.
@noinwe, in life we have haters (which you are truly a member of THAT community).
@noinwe, i've never seen a bittered underdog... Was President Obama bitter after snatching the rug from under the Mc Cain campaign, becomeing the first black President? Was Berry Gordy bitter when studio honchs said 'LADY SINGS THE BLUES would disappear in people memory,' becoming a movie classic and a 9 time nominated Oscar feature? Why would Jody be bitter after delivering to Dick, Howard, Jeffrey and (least we not forget) Leon a career SMACKDOWN? You are so offbase you can't find the park!
@hassan1814, Well, though time has marched on, for some members of the group it looked as though time has marched across a few people face. Check out Howard's balding scalp and missing hair plugs and jeffrey's eye bags, looks as though he's in need of his own personal bell man! And, yes, Jody's changed, too. Check out her eyebrows.... Mama's just gotten better with time. She'll remain forever young!
I would love to see other celebrities - tell us fans about what the entertainment industry is really like. It shows that you appreciate youre fans. 5 stars!!!!!!! - under these conditions, I would still have some resentment too, I hope they are paying you royalties for youre shalamar songs..
@Mixxersmix Thanks, though I have a correction. I have zero resentment toward anyone (though I've certainly experienced it from others) - and never have regardless of my experiences back then. I'm unsure where that perception comes from: a point I make later in this series and made during my Unsung interview (omitted from final edit). Additionally, I've never made a dollar in royalties from sales of Shaiamar music - only Jody Watley music. I wish everyone the best as I state in Part 8.
@jwatley1 OH HELL NO! Sistar as powerful you are and as much as I listened to shalamar ONLY BECAUSE OF YOU, it is not good that you are not getting any royalties and YOU SHOULD GET IT. I think we always take the lesser road as women and we shouldn't. When will it stop, only when women take a stand and stop with this turn the other cheek...You can wish them the best but NOT before you wish YOURSELF THE BEST..
Not to dismiss Jody's comments but it's a good possibility that they were all manipulated by Dick according to their positions in the group. Making one assume that the other is aware of their situation when that's often not the case. I see this in the corporate world every day.
Jody is a beautiful sistah. I like her confidence and wit. One thing I'll take from this candid account of what really went down is to know your worth. As she said we are all valuable in our relationships, family, and work or careers. You count and don't let anyone tell you any different. Thank for saying that, Jody Watley.
I always knew howard hewett was the reason for shalamar's demise.well jody you showed them-you have a grammy and you had a successful solo career howard didn't so in the end the cream rose to the top!!!!
IF SHALAMAR'S PROBLEMS WERE SO SERIOUS WITH EACH OTHER THAN WHY DID THEY REUNITE on Babyface's remake of This Is For The Lover In You & they were in the video together as well?
This is real talk right here speak on it Jody. At my job while the men make more money, it's the women who pulls the weight on the daily. It broke my heart when Shalamar broke up but I'm not mad at you for handling your business. Jody you been the bomb since Soul Train, love you girl
Very well said and communicated with an apparent sense of humor still intact. She appears to be a woman comfortable in her own skin which has always been a part of her appeal to me. Her music (solo) is always an inspiration. I don't know of anyone with a strong mind who would work without due compensation in this circumstance or any for that matter and allow themselves to be systemically brainwashed to inferiority. I see a bit of crabs in a barrel in some of these comments. Shame.
Ms Watley keep doing what you're doing. I like the concert videos you posted from Japan and the new Style video. When I come to these Unfiltered posts I just shake my head but sometimes I get darn mad and have to comment. I know people post worst things about other artists out of jealousy. I think people from your Shalmar days are mad at you, I don't relate at all because I only like your music and have followed you from the start
Miss Watley, in life we have haters.
@synira Jody is an independent artist and her music does not have the commercial push from a major corporation which would heavily target the younger audience. She has altered her sound over the decades and appeals to an underground following who are aware of her commercial success from back in the day. If she were fly by night she would not still be around making music, touring or able to get deals with major distribution chains.
Jody Watley is a beautiful woman.Oh my GOD! I'm listening to "For the lover in you" rite now.Only one of my favorite Shalamar tracks. "Everything" my favorite solo song.I was singing it earlier today when GOD was apologizing to me lol I would like to meet Ms.Watley or e mail to express my appreciation for the great songs.
If I where well known I would reach out to Ms.Mills and let her know just how much she has enriched my life with her music.Especially "Never knew love like this before" "You and I" and "I just want to say" (Which is playing rite now) With her beautiful self.I wish that I could talk to the woman.
These are nothing more than lies that you are spreading against Ms.Mills.If I where well known I would reach out to the woman and tell her how much I appreciate her music.
WHAT WAS THE DRAMA BETWEEN YOU & JEFFREY? What is the dish on Stephanie & Jeffrey? This UNFILTERED seems to ramble and hoover around vague allusive comments that don't take on flesh. The lighting is rediculous (she looks like a goldfish because it's way too bright for a single camera doing tight-shot), The editing is disturbing & disruptive. Really Jody?... Really?
Jeffery sounds like he was amonster when he wasn't on stage "sing" and moonwalking'
Maybe that's why he skip town and moved across the sea to avoid getting arrested. Whatever the case is or was he never should have been hitting either lady
I've been waiting for this for 4 years... Jody Watley is Hard Core... You are so above Shalamar.... I love your songs. Thank you for this. The Fans need to see this.
@missgodiver, during the screening of 'Unsung' and 'Unfiltered' at what period did La Watley say that she embraced the groups talent? Never! You're welcome to continue to resist what's been already proven by public's opinion of who's talent and likability has taken them to momentous triumphs, and two guys who can't even hit water if they fell out of boat. Try new tricks learning good, honest work ethics and you'll increase your knowledge of acquiring a dissimilar new expression. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
@missgodiver, not every Shalamar fan wants a Shalamar reunion! I sense your bitterness, and it's not a good look, be fashion forward and leave the past in it's anterior. Being an ex Solar employee and Shalamar fan, myself, I know it's history can't be duplicated. But, when you feel the sunken indigence for a Shalamar reunion, tune in to the 'Oldie station,' it's the rabid decaying home of one's limelight with a sign that reads 'Welcome home, Jeffrey Daniels!'
is this the black people dont read youtube section. whatever i want is what i want. if you want it another way good for you. someone said I thought howard founded shalamar. no never said that. oh and white groups have been ripped off, had members sleep with their wives, etc. Im not where i want to be in the industry but being in the position i'm in I see us self destruct amongst each other all the time. i'm sick of it, maybe you like it but i don't and backhanded comment person please grow up
Why return to Shalamar if she will not be paid for her past work? Or even given her due respect as an aritst from Howard Hewett and more importantly Dick Griffey who both will make money off of their reunion? Jody is a successful solo artist and has achieved more on her own than as part of Shalamar - and they still seem to hate on her success and have never admitted their part in destroying Shalamar.
Still....it seems that the group imploded because of Dick Griffey's lack of leadership skills and forestight and greed. Howard came in and cut off his nose to spite his face in the long run because he has burned bridges all over the place or specifically burnt it seriously with Jody. She deserves an apology from him even if she chooses to remain a solo act - a good way to show true remorse would be to pay her the money due from that period.
@lexamazing, you're welcome to want what you want, doesn't mean what you want, you will receive! That's just a fact in life you'll have to learn to accept, but i see it's going to be a tart pill for you to swallow, because your thought pattern is like your desires. Late and trussed in an elasped mental archives of 1984. yo' ass is stuck on pt. 2, and we've all moved on to pt. 4. Com'on, 'Snap! Snap! Keep up!
@lexamazing, it's a good deed of you trying to help Jeffrey and Howard in trying to recapture their 'Oh so long ago lost fame,' by wanting to lure Jody back to her abusers. Wow, i guess you would return child molesters back to their victims, or Peter back into the lion's den. But, since you're such a concern citizen and a reputable producer in the business (so, you say! I'm still unimpressed!) get'em a hit. it'll be nice to see them on the charts again. Even if it'll be #95 without a bullet!
@lexamazing, i do commend your work archives, but i'm truly not impressed! What does your history have to do with 'Unfiltered?' you're right, nothing!. You sound like a 12 step program, ' I'll keep coming back!' You, like the rest of us are welcome, but be respectful of someone's choice they made for themself. stellitogroove summed it up so clearly, i really don't need to do a follow up, but since you love Howard so, and you produce, get him a hit. After 27 yrs., he could use one...
@rayofla chile.........how would i make money for someone and then they're telling me to come to there house to enjoy the riches honey chile now that's fierce
Jody i am so glad that you are telling what has happened and it is good to speak about it on youtube, and i hope now that you are sharing this with your true fans, and me a true fan, i hope you can breath easy. please ignor the hateful comments from those who do not understand and keep on telling it like it is. You are blessed with a beautiful singing and speaking voice and my oldest son who is now 28 years old loves your albums, tapes and cd's also
I understand Jody's concern. but howard's voice is shalamar period!! i'm def a jody fan also. but if God can forgive your sins jody and I know you have many. so stop complaining about what someone did to you. you guys were young so get over it. its' like she has to keep proving she has value. if you believe you have value you don't have to keep telling people. you know it. God bless you all. i want the jody, jeff, howard shalamar
Gerald Brown posted here too as the one member of Shalamar mentioned in the documentary but not given the opportunity to tell his side...he feels that Shalamar was a group in the beginning with no one member more important than the other and the demise of the group was further conceealed by Dick Griffey and Hewett who cut side deals and did not think of the bigger picture down the road when he would need Jody to make a successful reunion (she is their missing ingredient).
as ms. watley stated in part 1, she is only answering people who contact her on facebook myspace, comment here on youtube and so forth. i don't hear her complaining at all, i simply hear her stating what was cut out of this unsung documentary and kudos to her for not being muzzled. lastly, you seem to contradict your point, if howard is shalamar period, why do you still want her back?? as a pure watley fan, i just look forward to whatever she does next. that is all.
let's get something straight. there are jody, howard, jeff fans and there are shalamar fans. i'm all of the above. my thing is as black groups is always some bs about what i want do again. what happened if God said i'm done with all of us because of the bs we do to him. so seriously get over the bs because as fans we made jody and the rest of them. they didn't make us. so if i want the shalamar i love then grant me that!! without bs. that's why white groups win. they get over bs no matter what.
@lexamazing, let's get something straight! let's never use God in comparing ourself to his level. Bad example. Also, since when did anyone in the music industry owe you anything? I'm sure artist appreciate your support, but that's it! And, in situations of race, it's not a color thing as much as a respect. Maybe you've never had it, that's why you don't understand the field of inquiry 'Unfiltered' is conveying, so i understand your pain. I'll 'amazingly' pray for you!
White groups don't get ripped off as much as Shalamar....did the Rolling Stones ever complain about not getting paid millions? Or did U2 ever complain that someone was cutting side deals? That's why they are still together - they had better contracts and are paid residuals.
mind you i will always support Jody but i want the shalamar i grew up with. it's just the sound i like. also Jody you still look wonderful. oh yeah and as far as my howard's voice is shalamar back in the day it was. but hey to each his own. God bless them all and keep it moving.
Howard Hewett was the third lead singer in the group...and he expounded upon some of the problems that were already there. Why ask Jody to come back for a reunion and then stab her in the back in public later when in an interview saying she has issues (yes with the admitted fact that he came in cutting side deals that helped to break up the group). And Howard is not the founding member of Shalamar ....he came in after they already had hits.
@lexamazing the Shalamar you grew up with?? LOL, where have you been no one can go back in time. Black reunions are never like rock reunions anyway your analogy is flawed For all you know they probably still want to beat her down, do you know the inside scoop? I am a diehard Jody Watley fan I don't think you are at all. If you love Howard/Shalamar sound just buy that music, see those concerts and leave Ms. Watley alone. Keep it moving
@lexamazing, if Howard was the voice of shalamar ('period!!' as you stated), why are you harping for a reunion? just pull out his one and only hit, 'Amen' and have yourself a rug-cutting-church-stomping good time. Jody has forgiven, and moved past the hurt. The problem with shalamar fans is, you guys can't understand why she refuse to walk backwards to where y'all are 'stuck on memory lane,' refusing to cross the street to 'I've moved on avenue!' Com'on people, grow....... evolve! 1984 is over!
I just want to post in support of one of my favorite divas. This series has endeared me to her even more if that's possible. I've been following her since the late 80's when she came out with Lookin' For a New Love & continue to support her new music, never predictable. I saw her in New York this summer & she was off the chain. I had the pleasure to meet her at the meet & greet after the show & she was so gracious & kind to every single person waiting. Keep being yourself Ms. Watley, love ya
More talent? I guess 'talent' is in the eye of the beholder. Ms. Watley is without question the biggest talent of that trio.
I don't really know who those guys are and may be biased as a Watley fan, but I admire Ms. Watley as an artist, songwriter and trendsetter. My love began in 1987. I only recently discovered she was a teen dancer and member of a singing group. I'm outside of my comfort zone commenting on this, but detect a touch of what some call "haterade". She is beautiful inside out.
I remembering reading that in an interview she did with Ebony Magazine in 1983. She said that Jeffrey wanted her to stop performing and to have children. Stephanie wasn't ready to stop performing, and she probably stood up to him.
Yeah, I heard about that. Jeff's boys have said that wasn't true, but I know why they're covering for him. They are all still cool with him since back in the day, so they are going to say it wasn't true. It's sad that she still wanted to deal with him even after this. Jeff's boys always disrespected this woman, and he never stopped them from saying anything.
@Mrcovering- I don't know why he married that woman. Was it for money? Or to get back at someone? Whatever the case maybe, when they were separated, she had to be removed out of his house because she refused to leave. It's funny how he treated her, and she still wanted him back. Poor thing.
I believe that. People knew she had issues; she talked about it in the media like she was reading her diary. In the late 80s after she married that one guy that worked with Sammy Davis Jr, it just went down hill for her. Her manager left her and everything. I know how many records Jody sold, and it's funny because her fan club worker wants to shut anyone down that speaks truth about Jody's accomplishments. Jody didn't need a man to make her; but stephanie always involved her husbands/boyfriends.
I am out of words. Married? To that guy? Wow. I would have never of guessed. I guess that to cover the both of their tracks. She sees an ugly woman, and that's what makes her soo annoyed with ppl. She can't handle the fact that ppl have never accepted her looks, but it isn't for ppl to accept, she should be the only one accepting herself. I guess a failed career will do it to you.
@mrcovering-When i mentioned yesterday about Stephanie and Jeffery being separated and all of that, I forgot to mention that his friends ended up throwing her out of the house. None of them liked her. One of them that told me the story said that she (Stephanie) tried to alienate Jeffery from all he knew. She didn't want him to go out or anything. She done the same with her previous husband after Jeffery. She needed help back then. Her husbands were lucky to get out of that.
Wow! There is room for everyone to do their own thing. She's a talented lady. This is very sad to read. Can't wait to see Part 3 of this UNFILTERED series. I wonder if any of this will be in there. Maybe not. Thanks for the info.
Help me out. I know Jeffrey and Stephanie got married, but what part did that play in the group? I am reading people say how mean Stephanie is, but I am not sure of what she did? I met her once, and she was sweet to me, but it was a very brief meeting. FIll me in because I am confused.
You know something, it could be Howard himself. It's really sad that he still holds a grudge against Jody. Jody didn't do anything to him. He needs to get over himself and come to terms that he is no longer that "it" factor anymore.
Oh really? What a conniving woman. This qphinphin person is really getting on my last nerve. It's really sad how she is begging for things, etc etc. She is a sorry woman. Glad we have artist like Jody that don't wait around for ppl to do things for her.
Jody is working on her autobiography and I can't wait for it to come out.
I saw her perform live 3 times and she knows how to work the stage. PLus I met her in 2006 and she was mad cool and down to earth I took a picture with her and she signed CDs I got for me and my cousin, who is a huge fan of hers
Stephanie was married to a radio programmer in North Carolina and has a son, Her son is not by Howard because Stephanie wouldn't have tolerated Howard's attitude. Howard has 4 childiren including a son with Nia Peebels
The radio programmer isn't her son's father. They divorced in 95, and he moved to Fayetteville, NC and remarried sometime later. I am not saying that you meant that he was the father, I am just clarifying that he isn't for ppl who think he is.
Who ever the father is, he doesn't want to be known he slept with that crazy woman and fathered a child with her.
@memyself2k Jeffrey Daniel didn't mention his marriage to Stephanie Mills on unsung because obviously it was an embarassment to him. And he knows people will wonder why he chose to date a woman that looks like Stephanie Mills after he had been with Jody Watley.
Jody Watley is the tall model type, Stephanie Mills aint nobodies type!
What a truly lovely lady inside. YOu can tell she is speaking the truth and from the heart. I agree with her, they coudl have done the show in more depth. Can't wait for Part 3 of this. Thank you JOdy for giving us the read deal.
you lying bitch i just heard Stephanie Mills single "yesterday" and you said that she was'nt gonna put it out but I heard it for myself, vnow what do you have to say now you hateful lying BITCH you just jealous an she could'nt be broke as you claim if she done the Beatles song couse it aint free and it aint cheap. So now who you gonna say she killed this time to fund the record cause you say she already killed her mother an father, who this time for the money to put a record out? you are a liar!
THIS is the interview I have been wanting to see for years. Jody has always been very candid in her intervies, and I love her for it. I am looking forward to hearing more. In my humble opinion, although Jody was not the lead singer, i always felt that her voice was the glue to hold the sound together. Obviously she was not disposable. I have now made her name a musical term. In my group, we refer to the member whose voice stands out in a song as the "Jody " of that song.
armanicode8601 Just like Howard Hewett, Stephanie Mills is one of those voice only artist. Not only did Jody have the voice, But she picked the right clothing she did the right videos, She picked good producers the right songs and sound etc. That's why Jody had platinum status.
I couldn't agree with you more...She really knew what worked for her. You can tell how she really sat back and thought, and wrote down all of her thoughts and ideas for her career, went over seas to get more ideas, and came back as that "it" girl. She didn't wait for someone to give her a career, she went out and did it on her own. Stephanie Mills had ppl doing everything for her like a spoiled little child, and look where she is now? No where!
armanicode8601 I also read that she was in a court battle with somebody name Davimos i believe was the name. I'm not sure if she won or lost that case, But she disappeared and lost both of her homes filed bankruptcy and everything.
armanicode8601 There is something deeply wrong with Stephanie Mills and i don't even think she knows what it is herself, She's the type that can't get along with nobody on the planet.
Yeah John Davimos. He's still in business too. The case was dropped out of court. She had no evidence. She basically spent all of her money on clothes, houses, and cars she couldn't afford; living beyond her means.
armanicode8601 The year of her Ebony magazine interview was 1991-1992 somewhere around that time. And maybe a year after that she released a gospel Cd that went no where and flopped, She disappeared for a decade they said.
Yeah, I remember a lot of ppl complaining about that album. It was horrible sounding. A lot of Christian fans turned there nose up at her and the project.
U ain't neve lied! I saw her in concert in Philly, and it was one of the best shows ever. She was so honest even in her presentation during her show. She was humbled to tears at the fac that the audience was with her every step of the way.
Kpitt1204, when you respect your fans and realize if it wasn't for them, your career wouldn't exist, you tend to have support all over the world. When you're money hungry and only use your fans to buy your product, or say you dated another famous person who is now deceased, you aren't the most respected. Jody will always be number one in my book. My favorite album of hers is Flower....i just loved how she explained the concept of the album, and why she named it flower...Just excellent.
^Also^ Stephanie Mills doesn't like Jody Watley either, Stephanie Mills, Howard Hewett, Dick Griffey all haters birds of a feather. And because Jody doesn't want a reunion tour they are all bitter about it.
"Stephanie Mills" please stop sending your fan club president to this comments section to defend you, And ask about screen names. Your concern should be raising Howards child that he is currently unable to help you provide for. He isn't helping you financially at all!
MrCovering, Stephanie even called herself a bitch on a interview, and said she was not so nice to everyone.....this came from her own mouth. I believe musiclover is her fanclub president. You see how they removed there comments very quickly.
Thank you Jody for sharing with us what really truly happen

@exceeduus77 I could not agree more! & I am a Die Hard Shalamar (Jody,Jeffery,Howard) Fan!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
She is just bitter, because she was not the vocal point of the group.

Now, take that to the bank!
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@shaftunlimited You live for moments like this, well that pretty sad, escpecially sence you really have no clue. Dick was definelty no swindler. He made the careers of many big acts. Do your homework. I've done mine.
noinwe 1 year ago
@noinwe, no homework needed being done. I worked for the second-rate extortioner. He was no visionary to create careers as Berry Gordy did, he just provided a platform for the act, all the groups previously made themselves. Shalamar- an act before signing to Solar. The Whhispers-many hits from the 60's. Lakeside- a hot band from Ohio with marginal hits pre-Solar. So, before you come to court, do YOUR homework, to not be crossed examined!

So, miss Watley, when haters come for you, tell'em to bring a friend along, you have work for them, too, then, sit back and enjoy the ride
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe@noinwe, Dick Griffey's concern was never about Jody, Jeffrey, and contrariwise, Howard, or any other artist on Solar. In his mind, no artist on the label was bigger than he. So, to make it seem as though Ms. Watley is left owing Dick an indebted gratitude for stealing monies that she's owed, a lack of loyalty in your meager conception of the situation, I call it, big pimping jumping off. With, or without Dick, Jody was meant to be. The late Jheryl Busby saw to that.!
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe, DECENT: Let's look at the definition and the correct spelling of this word. DECENT: respectable, or adequate. When speaking of Dick, Solar, or Shalamar the word should be DECEPTION, because everything you've read (post Jody's exit), specific interviews by Howard were frauds and illusion of grandeur. Funny how Ms. Watley's DECENT solo career has cemented it's time in music history. Checkout Billboard, Grammy MTV,VH1, AMA's BET award's chart, then Shalamar's, maybe we can talk further
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe, "got what he could get out of her & focused on the real talent!" Well, it was always Dick's M.O. to evaporate his victims. I believed if he had been gay he could've sucked a golf ball through a garden hose the way he'd sucked employable service from an artist. I'd say he lost coverage of real talent when placing the bank on Howard, failing to a fault and now he and Jeffrey has returned back to the plantation. Maybe the two men should've stopped at KFC or Wallmart for work. Better pay.
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe, Yes, Dick was a business man. So was Al Capone, but his conglomerate transaction usually turned into a blood bath. Since when did bad business electives make ethical benevolence? You say Jody HAD marginal talent, most would say she HAS the X factor that's kept her respect from the likes of Carmen Electra, the Blackeyed peas, Jamie Foxx and even, the late, great Michale Jackson. Hey Jeffrey, Howard, admit you two have been beat by a girl....Boo, hoo!
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe,Jody's vocals were the focal point of Shalamar. it was never Howard's. The sound and style was created before he was introduced to the music world. Leon Sylvers always created the hits around HER voice. Wasn't it funny though, for her voice NOT to be THE VOCAL POINT OF THE GROUP, Shalamar never had another hit after her departing, but she went from singing background, to singing for the President of the United States. I say that's great for MARGINAL TALENT! How you doin'?
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@shaftunlimited Yes Dick was a very tough business man & he kept a tight grip on his groups. But far from a pimp, thats the nature of the business. He was well respected. Some might not like some of his tactics. But without Dick, ther would have been no Shalamar, Whispers, Babyface(The Deele), Midnight Star, Klymaxx, Dynasty, Lakeside. Now take that to the bank.
noinwe 1 year ago
@noinwe, That bank is empty! He was not WELL respected in the business and barely liked. You're speaking from a parent/child paralled correspondent, i'm speaking from a employee/employer affilation. No one liked his tactics they were unethical, but we expected nothing 'less-than' coming from someone with the moral values of a degenerate safecracker. Oh, yeah, as i mentioned per-post, the acts you mentioned, except Dynasty had (marginal success) before Dick, and some much bigger afterwards!
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe, Dick's tight grip was called CONTROL which has always been a pimp's method. His Business ethics were as backward and illegal as you comments and being allowed to travles from one YOUTUBE boarder to the next. He was the owner of the company, manager, business manager and the list continues. You may find that to be in you Rain Men mind respected business ethics, but, legally, it's called conflict of intrest....which carries 16 months to 5 years federal.
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@shaftunlimited you are so right. a better voice does not always tranlate to commercial acceptance and your ballard/ ross expamples are point on. florence could blow the wig and false eyelashes off ms ross. but berry was a true visionary he recognized ms ross had that sweetness to her voice. the same way jody vocals were so perfectly mathced to leon sylvers productions. that said when combined howard and jodys vocals were just beyond perfect and to add jermaine stewart sound alike background
hassan1814 1 year ago
@hassan1814, thanks for that comment. Very sweet of you. There's haters everywhere drinking many different flavors of haterade...it seems to be more popular than Kool-aid these days, I just hope Miss Watley understands. But, I will say for those hating on her beautiful voice....what happen to Shalamar after her departure, and she removed her vocals and another hit hit was never heard from by the group since? I'm just saying....But, don't shoot the messenger...Just facts!
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe, Bitter? Bitterness is for those who care of certain situations, Ms. Watley is so far removed from her ex singing partners. Your claims of Jody being bitter holds just as much truth as Bishop Eddie Long (stroke). Very few know when Jody departed the group, she assisted her replacement, De'lisa (and Jeffrey's, Mickey) to fulfill into the position in the group. So if giving a helping hand and becoming a success makes one bitter? Jody i'd say remain sour grapes!
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@shaftunlimited I read all of you clueless responses. Naw Dick wasn't a pimp, he was a business man. You obiously know nothing about the music businees & the in's & out's of it. Jeffery & Jody wasn't in the group becaue of their singing ability. It was because of their stage presence. I know a little more about the group then u may think. Shalamar had great songs, thanks to Leon Sylvers. The royalties anyone in Shalamar was due, was so small that it did even put a dent in the monies owed.
noinwe 1 year ago
@noinwe u are so wrong. yes jody and jeffrey were hired orginally because of stage presence. but it turned out she could actually sing and even write, she was denied that ability but got to write many hits as a solo artists while the likes of howard hewitt had to marry nia peeples as his trophy wife get real. if this dick person had a clue he would give his artists some creative freedom cause in the end no one should care where the songs come from as long as they are hits and hits = dollars.
hassan1814 1 year ago
@noinwe, maybe the problem is, you don't know enough! The difference between a business man and a pimp? A man of integrity pays his employees, a hoe never sees her money she gives her pimp. Maybe instead of focusing so much time on my (knowing) comments, maybe check out some of the other former employees, band memebers and even former Shalamar lead vocalist who's posted on UNFILTERED....we all can't be wrong. Good try for attempting to have a cads back!
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe, hahaha! the royalties Shalamar was due, not only build the (then) Solar building that is now called "Edmondson" towers, but also made Dick a very rich man since they were his number one group at (THAT time) plus not to mention Ranch, cars and houses. He was repaid back ten folds. You don't have a CLUE who you dealing with and what I know. Baby, the cheerleader job's over, you're no longer on payroll, release the pom-poms and go get a real job. better yet, send me your reseme'
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@shaftunlimited Now I know you are an imbecile. Dick was a force in the music industry. Read some of the article online about him. From Babyface to Quincy Jones. The only people that knew about Lakeside, was a few people in their hometown. The Whispers had very marginal success before Solar & Griffey made Shalamar, Midnight Star, The Deele, Babyface, etc. Of course Dick became a very rich man, he was suppose to, he was the Founder Of Solar. Now it comes out, you're a bitter ex-employee.
noinwe 1 year ago

Try Googling that FACT while Googling for the Griffey school for girls in Ghana
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@noinwe I did read some of the testamonies in the article on Griffey that had been REQUESTED (by his one time assistant). I DECLINED! Kenny is just an all around good person. Quincy, why would I listen to him? He was never faithful, or honest to any of his wives...... I guess he and Griffey shared that common demoninator! Oops... did I say that?
shaftunlimited 1 year ago
@shaftunlimited Just face it, you're are lost, on this subject. Now any & everything you say can & will be dimissed because, you are a bitter ex-employee. Don't hate because, Dick was a self made millionare. The brotha came from the projects, in Nashville & made something of himself & on the way helped the careers of some major players in the music business. Yes, Dick was not liked by some & was revered by others. But thats ok because, he wasn't suppose to be liked by everyone.
noinwe 1 year ago
@noinwe You proved my point, she has your attention, here you are again posting, lol.If you pay attention she is talking about something much deeper than who could sing better and all of that. She is talking about personal worth and value as she was maturing as a teenager and speaking on HER feelings about not getting paid. Enjoy your haterade, but get a clue for real. Just because YOU might not like her music or voice it makes no difference like shaftunlimited said it's already in the books LOL
chicsensibilities 1 year ago
@chicsensibilities, what I don't get, is, why everyone believes the one who (they believe to be the better singer) feels that that artist has the commercial sound to cross over to become favorites among the masses. History has proved over time a typical voice has never held a light to a unique sound. Example...Florence Ballard/Diana Ross. Need I say more? If Dick was a true visionary like Berry Gordy, Solar could've rest on the shoulders of Jody, but with the bank on Howard, it went belly up!

Not to dismiss Jody's comments but it's a good possibility that they were all manipulated by Dick according to their positions in the group. Making one assume that the other is aware of their situation when that's often not the case. I see this in the corporate world every day.

I think people from your Shalmar days are mad at you, I don't relate at all because I only like your music and have followed you from the start
stilettogroove 1 year ago
Miss Watley, in life we have haters.
TheElfcounsel 1 year ago
@synira Jody is an independent artist and her music does not have the commercial push from a major corporation which would heavily target the younger audience. She has altered her sound over the decades and appeals to an underground following who are aware of her commercial success from back in the day. If she were fly by night she would not still be around making music, touring or able to get deals with major distribution chains.

Really?

Why return to Shalamar if she will not be paid for her past work? Or even given her due respect as an aritst from Howard Hewett and more importantly Dick Griffey who both will make money off of their reunion? Jody is a successful solo artist and has achieved more on her own than as part of Shalamar - and they still seem to hate on her success and have never admitted their part in destroying Shalamar.
stanleyballard 1 year ago

Snap! Keep up!
1973cleopatrajones 1 year ago
@lexamazing, it's a good deed of you trying to help Jeffrey and Howard in trying to recapture their 'Oh so long ago lost fame,' by wanting to lure Jody back to her abusers. Wow, i guess you would return child molesters back to their victims, or Peter back into the lion's den. But, since you're such a concern citizen and a reputable producer in the business (so, you say! I'm still unimpressed!) get'em a hit. it'll be nice to see them on the charts again. Even if it'll be #95 without a bullet!
1973cleopatrajones 1 year ago
@lexamazing, i do commend your work archives, but i'm truly not impressed! What does your history have to do with 'Unfiltered?' you're right, nothing!. You sound like a 12 step program, ' I'll keep coming back!' You, like the rest of us are welcome, but be respectful of someone's choice they made for themself. stellitogroove summed it up so clearly, i really don't need to do a follow up, but since you love Howard so, and you produce, get him a hit. God bless you all. i want the jody, jeff, howard shalamar
lexamazing 2 years ago
Gerald Brown posted here too as the one member of Shalamar mentioned in the documentary but not given the opportunity to tell his side...he feels that Shalamar was a group in the beginning with no one member more important than the other and the demise of the group was further conceealed by Dick Griffey and Hewett who cut side deals and did not think of the bigger picture down the road when he would need Jody to make a successful reunion (she is their missing ingredient).
stanleyballard 2 years ago
as ms. watley stated in part 1, she is only answering people who contact her on facebook myspace, comment here on youtube and so forth. i don't hear her complaining at all, i simply hear her stating what was cut out of this unsung documentary and kudos to her for not being muzzled. lastly, you seem to contradict your point, if howard is shalamar period, why do you still want her back?? as a pure watley fan, i just look forward to whatever she does next. that is all.
stilettogroove 2 years ago 2
let's get something straight. there are jody, howard, jeff fans and there are shalamar fans. i'm all of the above. my thing is as black groups is always some bs about what i want do again. what happened if God said i'm done with all of us because of the bs we do to him. so seriously get over the bs because as fans we made jody and the rest of them. they didn't make us. so if i want the shalamar i love then grant me that!! without bs. that's why white groups win. they get over bs no matter what.
lexamazing 2 years ago
@lexamazing, if you want the shalamar you grew up with, then maybe you need to pull out the 45's and have yourself a night to remember!
1973cleopatrajones 2 years ago
@lexamazing, let's get something straight! let's never use God in comparing ourself to his level. Bad example. Also, since when did anyone in the music industry owe you anything? I'm sure artist appreciate your support, but that's it! And, in situations of race, it's not a color thing as much as a respect. Maybe you've never had it, that's why you don't understand the field of inquiry 'Unfiltered' is conveying, so i understand your pain. I'll 'amazingly' pray for you!
1973cleopatrajones 2 years ago
White groups don't get ripped off as much as Shalamar....did the Rolling Stones ever complain about not getting paid millions? Or did U2 ever complain that someone was cutting side deals? That's why they are still together - they had better contracts and are paid residuals.
stanleyballard 1 year ago
mind you i will always support Jody but i want the shalamar i grew up with. it's just the sound i like. also Jody you still look wonderful. oh yeah and as far as my howard's voice is shalamar back in the day it was. but hey to each his own. God bless them all and keep it moving.
lexamazing 2 years ago
Howard Hewett was the third lead singer in the group...and he expounded upon some of the problems that were already there. Why ask Jody to come back for a reunion and then stab her in the back in public later when in an interview saying she has issues (yes with the admitted fact that he came in cutting side deals that helped to break up the group). And Howard is not the founding member of Shalamar ....he came in after they already had hits.
stanleyballard 1 year ago
@lexamazing the Shalamar you grew up with?? LOL, where have you been no one can go back in time. Black reunions are never like rock reunions anyway your analogy is flawed For all you know they probably still want to beat her down, do you know the inside scoop? I am a diehard Jody Watley fan I don't think you are at all. If you love Howard/Shalamar sound just buy that music, see those concerts and leave Ms. Watley alone. Keep it moving
stilettogroove 1 year ago

MUSICENCYLOPEDIA 2 years ago

I guess a failed career will do it to you.
armanicode8601 2 years ago
@mrcovering-When i mentioned yesterday about Stephanie and Jeffery being separated and all of that, I forgot to mention that his friends ended up throwing her out of the house. None of them liked her. One of them that told me the story said that she (Stephanie) tried to alienate Jeffery from all he knew. She didn't want him to go out or anything. She done the same with her previous husband after Jeffery. She needed help back then. Her husbands were lucky to get out of that.

You know something, it could be Howard himself. It's really sad that he still holds a grudge against Jody. Jody didn't do anything to him. He needs to get over himself and come to terms that he is no longer that "it" factor anymore.

In my group, we refer to the member whose voice stands out in a song as the "Jody " of that song.
kpitt1204 2 years ago
armanicode8601 Just like Howard Hewett, Stephanie Mills is one of those voice only artist. Not only did Jody have the voice, But she picked the right clothing she did the right videos, She picked good producers the right songs and sound etc. That's why Jody had platinum status.
MrCovering 2 years ago 2
I couldn't agree with you more...She really knew what worked for her. You can tell how she really sat back and thought, and wrote down all of her thoughts and ideas for her career, went over seas to get more ideas, and came back as that "it" girl. She didn't wait for someone to give her a career, she went out and did it on her own. Stephanie Mills had ppl doing everything for her like a spoiled little child, and look where she is now? No where!
armanicode8601 2 years ago 2
armanicode8601 I also read that she was in a court battle with somebody name Davimos i believe was the name.
MrCovering 2 years ago 3
Yeah John Davimos. He's still in business too. The case was dropped out of court. She had no evidence. She basically spent all of her money on clothes, houses, and cars she couldn't afford; living beyond her means.
Hopefully new artist will learn from this.

Kpitt1204, when you respect your fans and realize if it wasn't for them, your career wouldn't exist, you tend to have support all over the world. When you're money hungry and only use your fans to buy your product, or say you dated another famous person who is now deceased, you aren't the most respected.
