You're right, unfortunately, the voice is not the same. The studio recordings sound great due in part to studio tweaking, but the live singing I have seen has not been the best overall.

If you look at Dionne Warwick's teeth, you will notice similar issues...I am not sure if its pyorrhea of the gums that has caused her upper front teeth loss...her father had the same false frontals as well...drug use didn't help matters but I do not think drug use caused it...her family on both sides have this issue...it is unfortunate but it goes to show that celebrities are as human as any of us...

It sounds like her throat is stripped! When she did GMA. She was not up it physically.I don't think she will be able to go on tour. In the studio,they can take several days or longer to produce a CD.I hope that she has just been doing too many interviews first coming back out. I truly have missed Whitney!

I agree; the live performance on Oprah sounds better than on the CD. It's a different sound than on the CD--at the end, it's almost gospel. But the Oprah performance shows us that she can still sing, not hitting those high notes as she once did, but then again, she's not 19 years old either. She's beens singing for almost 30 years. Her voice is going to be different whether she used drugs or not. It was an awe-inspiring performance. The interview shows us the REAL Whitney.

her teeth look different inthe I Look to You video. New teeth will change your speech at first. When I had several front teeth crowned to make them all straight, there were letters that I slurred because in addition to making my teeth straight, my dentist also corrected my bite. I slurred r's, s's, and any words that began with "th." But with a little time, my speech returned to normal. Plus, her teeth look better and whiter than they did 20 years ago.

had it not been for the drugs, vocal strain(oversinging/hectic schedule) and unhealthy living, she PROBABLY would still sound like she did in her 20s. one's voice can deepen and change without coming dangerously close to totally losing it as Whitney did. AGE has nothing to do with it. one can still hear that the soprano Whitney has always had is STILL there--it's just damaged. she might need to have vocal nodules removed and that could restore the voice and open up her top notes once again.

I believe drugs did really bad to her voice. but even without drugs, or smoke, I don't know a lot of singers that, with intensive touring and recording for years sound in their 50's the same way they sounded in their 20's. Aging happens to your voice when you use it a Lot, even if you have healthy habits.

Some of the greatest singers ever experienced that aging, of course Whitney's case was more dramatic because of her really Bad habits. But I agree that a well made surgery would help her voice.

well Whitney's not in her 50s. having said that i'm not saying that a singer's going to sound EXACTLY the same in the 40's as the 20's but it's very possible. a perfect example of someone who actually sounds better in her 50's and 60's versus her younger years is Patti LaBelle. her top notes are just as strong and the voice is very youthful and powerful. she takes care of herself. Whitney's vocal issue isn't due to age or oversinging so much as it is overall abuse and lack of vocal health.

Patti is amazing, but she is The Perfect Exception... Her case is almost unique... You can have much more cases of vocal aged voices than the oposite... anyways, its just points of view, I respect yours, even if I can't agree with some things...
