I had lots of problems with pulse in Karmic; had to remove pulse. Now I use alsa, but ... had been a pain in the butt trying to config my mic in record my desktop. Sometimes works, sometimes not.
Everything is working fine for me. Sound is messy in Linux on most systems that I've used. Maybe the nicest XPS-specific thing I've noticed since the upgrade is that my wireless networking reconnects a *lot* faster when resuming from suspend.

Thanks for your post. Are all the other things wokring? I also want to upgrade from 8 to 9.10 on my XPS M1530.
