When I was a little girl I would flip the guitar & play it like this. I was too small to play a bigger guitar. I had watched my cousin using an autoharp & full size harp so I figured play it like the autoharp. I didn't have my own guitar so I only did this around people who did. A friend took me to see Chuck Berry. On a break I went near one of the guitars & played it on its side again. The people I was with offered to get me one I could learn to play normally. Isn't this this called hammering? You can do it with a guitar with nice, soft strings and an amplifier.

@kaarugonjou13 No a hammer-on is when you play a string with your picking hand and then using your fretting hand press your finger on a fret that is higher than the note you just played. The style you see here is really called guitar slap/tap. If you wanna see more of this style, look up "Airtap!" by Erik Mongrain. He does the same style seen here except it's way more advanced than this song. Pretty nice-sounding tune too.

@jleigh2413 Tuning is from low to high is CGCDGE, but the E is tuned down one who octave than what it would normally played. This song isn't that hard to play actually; why don't you give it another try?

Who cares if this scene is physically impossible, the song is great and interesting to listen to. I do feel like playing the guitar after this, except I know that I won't be able to make anything enjoyable until I have much more practice. Nobody can just "mess around" with a guitar and play something like this.

The whole idea that August just starts slapping his guitar and music comes out is preposterous. Even the most gifted musical prodigy must practice and learn. If you're thinking of learning guitar shortly after watching this movie, trust me, this is not how it happens. Even Mozart and Chopin had to painstakingly embark on a slow and arduous journey into the magical world of music. It's an incredible experience, but you can't have it all at once. If you want it badly enough, you will endure.
