  • Amazing isn't it. Back in those days you had engines of this size only producing 100hp.. Today my tiny 4 cylinder 2.4L produces 190hp, gogo technology.

  • it sounds like it should be in willie wonka's candy factory

  • That's the sound of industry folks. I know it's been awhile.

  • this remines me of techno music for some reason o.o Great vid! *thumbs Up*

  • the exhaust sounds like the Blue Man Group's PVC Xylophone, Unique and awesome!

  • dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, dung dong, ha ha love the sound:D

  • Mammy's little baby loves short'nin', short'nin'

Mammy's little baby loves short'nin' bread... Fotch dat dough fum the kitchin-shed— Rake de coals out hot an' red— Put on de oven an' put on de led,— Mammy's gwineter cook som short'nin' bread.

  • Dare you to stick finger in flywheel ..LoL J/K

  • I remember being there during this show. If I remember correctly the owner told me this engine was used for powering an elevator in an old factory. Also, if I recall, he even had a letter that was framed from the manufacturer of the engine to the owner regarding some maintenance questions he must have had. This thing really was something to see and hear. Standing downrange from the exhaust tips 30 feet, every once in a while an exhaust stroke pulse would "pop" you in the face. Loved this thing.

  • @racernate02 we went this year and they did not have a feature engine, hope they will in 2011. It's a great little show, Thanks for watching!

  • Blue Man Group's engine!

  • love the sound it makes

  • @sound2loud4U Pretty cool, I love it too!

  • That has to be one of the most downright hypnotic sounding things that I have ever heard...Could sit and listen to that all day! Truly unique that is. Thanks for sharing!

  • It's a beautiful engine. thanks for restoring and preserving it. Do you know what it was originally used for? I'm guessing it had something to do with a pump of some sort where you need tons of torque but not high rpms.

  • Nice touch running it on LP gas. Otherwise if it ran on oil everybody

would have a black face & old people would be passing out on the

    ground.

  • pim pom pim pom , somewhat hypnotic !!

  • I love the sound of this engine.

  • Bink Bonk Bink Bonk Bink Bonk

    Love it.

  • @zhmapper ,Quite a unique sound, I love it too, It ran for several hours while we were at the show, Thanks!

  • @moparjim63

I don't know much about the history of these engines... Is the "Bessemer" part THE Henry Bessemer, father of the Bessemer converter for making iron into steel?

  • @zhmapper Hi, I'm not sure about that, sounds reasonable, but I would have to research it, Thanks for watching!

  • @zhmapper That is the sound in a nutshell. I love it to

  • That thing sounds better than some rock and roll bands I've heard.

  • The exhaust system is designed perfectly - the sound is pleasant to hear. Also it is sure that the whole engine would last a century even on heavy duty every day. Which I have doubts to say about the motorcycle engine. Maybe the only advantage of the motorcycle engine over that (except the smaller size) is the better efficiency and respectively, fuel economy.

  • yea i agree i was just playoin around low rpm is usaly were torqe plays in were nopwaday every ones all about hp the other thing is that motor dont spin up 10,000 rpms man if it did it probaby have so much powere ud shit ur self lol

  • scary to think nowadays we can get that much horsepwer out of a litle motorcycle engine lol

  • torque is a different story. That old motor likely has 1000 times the useable torque of a modern cutting edge 100hp motorcycle engine...and at less than 100 RPM judging by the sound of the engine.

  • like the headers, dam i wouldn't be thinkin standing next to them flywheels, wouldof been a scene to see one of them fly off like a big wheel

  • Very nice engine!

  • That has a very unique sound! No wonder all those old movies has strange engine sounds.

  • i wana have tat on my car !!!

  • lol Badly tuned tuba. :) got to love it!

  • that look dangerous

  • I wouldent get to close to that buddy!

  • did you guys use an antique Moog Synthethizer for the brrp brrp sound?

  • Hey! You don't want any kids or drunk show goers walking into those flywheels!

  • There is a Cooper-Bessemer engine connected to a gas compressor just northwest of Haven, KS (it's about ten miles from where I live) which is 150hp and only has one cylinder. The exhaust note can be heard from nearly a mile away.

  • Could you get a vid of it and post it???

  • Sorry, no can do.

  • O,K, cool

  • was that motor at cool spring june of 07?

  • i know that engine and the owner of it the engine is deasle

  • The exhaust sounds like an oboe!! Wonderful old machine. Is tame in this video, running on propane. Imagine the sound if it is running on gasoline! Pops and backfires!

  • I love the sounds of the hit-and-miss engines!

  • awesome

  • dont you just love the trombone music it plays! nearly sent me to sleep. Health and safety freaks here in UK would spit their dummies at the naked rotating bits though !

  • I know!! They would have a field day there.

  • check out those exhaust tubes, they gotta be 5 inches across.

  • That thing is going very very fast for such a large engine. Looks to be 300-400 RPM?

  • That looks like a whole lot of metal!! Two flywheels..... big ones at that. Looks pretty smooth running too.
