I'm old enough to have been lucky enough to see them at the opening of the current 9:30 club (and to have seen the nether regions of the "old" 9:39 club) and I guess the prospect of waving 20s in 95 degree heat was a bit old for my 40 year-old self, so opted for the opening of the HP flick instead. But thank you for posting. . .fur rises a bit :-)
You're right, though - the setup and swag were fantastic. The length of the show was also unusual (more like a Cure gig than most of the 60-to-90-minute shows bands usually play). I really enjoyed the second encore, though Im not sure why they came out for just one song the first time?
My only big complain about the experience was our own fault. We had a ticket at the Guest list windows but werent paying attention and waited through that whole wraparound line first...oh well! We were super grateful for the camera policy..doubt Virgin will be as grateful
but... for such a high profile show where video and audio recording was perfectly ok, i'm surprised there aren't more songs up from last night's show. hopefully they'll release some of it on their own. for such a long day of setting up, waiting in line, rehearsing, etc, you'd think there would be tons to show.
I definately saw some people in front of me getting much longer clips with better cameras from better viewpoints, but no idea if they're going to post. As for me, I couldnt figure out why my SD card only had 10 minutes of space available on it (I left the HD vid cam at home)...turns out I left a bunch of my art from Artomatic in a place the camera couldnt delete. Ugh.
of all the shows i've worked, this one ranked up there with the Deftones. for the $30 ticket you really got your moneys worth in free merchandise, a giant show of decorations & theme, an old-school barbershop quartet, presidential motorcade and grand entrance, big staging area for the first 200 fans, a faux-protest complete with pro and anti pumpkins signs that doubled as posters and then a great Pumpkins show that lasted 3 hours, good shit!
Yw. Sorry you couldnt make it! People who saw them circa '92 weren't too impressed, but as someone who had never been to an SP gig before, I enjoyed it. The new kids were a bit raw and almost embarassed to be in stage at a few points, but the music was strong. I have a few smaller clips Ill string together today (including an unreleased track he recently penned). Unfortunately, I hadnt been intending to film this so hadnt gone through any positioning effort and was a bit short on avail memory.
please post the new song, so I can show my friends how awful it was. It was worse than a highschool talent show. Corgan's treatment of his old songs, with his new "fuzzy-rock" sound was such a let-down. You couldnt'even hear the riff in Zero. That is one the most bad-ass guitar lines, and yet it sounded like it was being run through a low-watt amp. No clarity. All I got from this show was sore feet. I expect flames from this post, but maybe it will resonate with some discerning listeners.
Oh, you're absolutely right about the new song - I recorded simply because it wasn't recorded elsewhere (that I know of), not because it was particularly good. As to the rest of the show, I dont follow SP enough to really be able to tell good from bad from normal (as far as their sound live). The sore feet were definitely taking away from our experience by the end.
i was there. front row. on the left. can't see me though.
i shook BC's hand before the show :)

Check out the Berlin performance of this song. What is wrong with us that we can't be as responsive?
