We all need to grow up. Growing up means taking responsibility for our actions. Of course the people who died on Sept 11 did not deserve it (of course!) AND, of course, America is not totally the oh so innocent victim. Growing up means opening our eyes, and accepting PARTIAL responsibility for the current state of the world.

When there are problems a mature man looks first at himself. Certainly not only himself, but first at himself. Anything else is the indignant behavior of a child.

Was it courageous, principled, or moral when Obama tacitly supported the teachings of his pastor for 20 years he now deems ignorant, divisive, appalling, wrong, shocking, at times? Can a man who apparently had no concern that his community, including its children, were being taught these things by a man to whom he showed respect and support, be the same man who now presumes to lecture us all on our failings as a nation? I would have left. A better man would have stood up. Obama did neither. Why?

good point - but an important thing that white america should think about is that many, many black churches discuss issues in a similar tone. some blacks actually believe that the re-institution of slavery is a real possibility some day in this country. sounds crazy i know! but what is it that is missing in terms of opportunity that would make our black brother/sister americans truly believe that sentiment? it's hard to understand the daily pressures of being a minority w/o being there yourself

I'm white, but I really think that there are still racial issues being swept under the rug. People raised back in the 50's and 60's grew up in an era of strong racial tension. Your childhood influences can stay with you for life. I don't know what it's like to be black in this society, but it has to be hard sometimes. The fact that race has become an issue in this election just proves we have a ways to go still.

He knows about race, he knows about politics and he knows how to negotiate with strength and leadership to get things done. His speech was extremely mature. Obama would be a much better president than the one we have now.

Some people can't recognize greatness if it slapped them in the face. This speech was very comprehensive inspiring. He wrote this speech. Its from his heart. It isn't hard to conceive that if he is the President, and faced with adversity, that he can rise to the occassion. Can you imagine President Bush writing and giving this message? If he doesn't win the Presidential Election, America will be lost, because he is what this nation is looking for, be he black or white

If Obama were President, imagine the number of ppl glued to their TVs for the state of the Union. Contrary to Bush, you walk away smarter after listening to Obama's speeches.

I think this is an important speech that addresses a lot of issues that are not often publicly discussed. I believe that Obama as President would be able help to heal many of the ills of our nation and could greatly boost our standing in the world community.

Great speech, exceptionally moving! Extremely honest! I did not expect Obama to disown Reverend Wright, that's his choice. Although, I would have liked him to separate church and government and he didn't. His reverend has every right to believe whatever he wants. He has every right to preach whatever he wants. I do not want a President who will not separate church from state/gov't and that's my right!

Blacks have had an unimaginable horror story in America, but much of the healing has just been laid aside.He understands we are truly all one race , the human race. I would rather him keep his courage, and honesty... if he loses votes in PA, then honestly he never had them to begin with. Be true to yourself, don't just be a fake and change because as a politician you must sway. I admire Obama even more after this speech.
