Arisakas are much better rifles than most people give them credit for. Those 7.7s can be loaded down to .30-30 levels up to .30-06 levels in terms of performance. Nice of you to introduce him to shooting.
@shuntachi From what I've read, In Japan they can own a hunting rifle or shotgun but only one and not both. I've got a feeling the licensing is just ridiculous for them over there so most people who are interested don't bother with it, or in some cases probably dont even know
Cool Video, looks like he enjoyed it, probably wouldn't of pulled the trigger the second time had it not been a good experience for him. For never using a rifle before it looks like he shot pretty good.
@Targetpopper I know little for the law enforcement for guns in Japan. What I know is the license is required for rifles and shotguns but I don't know the condition, and hand guns are completely banned (I think).
I think you are right that most people don't bother with it.
For the video, he had a hard time reloading but it's solely my fault that I didn't explain how to handle bolt action rifle. But he did enjoy shooting it.
@shuntachi you actually are right near spot on. Bolt action rifles and over and under shot guns (side by side as well) are legal. They do require a license and handguns and semi auto rifles for civilian use are not allowed. The weapons must be stored always in a weapon locker in the home and the local police can randomly come and inspect the weapons to make sure they are locked up and stored correctly. Most people think guns are totally illegal in Japan. Far from it.
I assume you've already tried the local gun stores? Walmart or a sporting goods store wouldn't have it, but an actual gun store might. That's where I got mine. I'm not sure what the laws about buying ammunition online are but you might be able to do that
Thanks. It worked. I didn't realize that square piece was a release button for the cleaning rod. It was very difficult to press that button. It must have been stuck because of rust, caked dirt, or some such problem.
I have an Arisaka rifle and I cannot figure out how to remove the cleaning rod. It seems to be stuck. Is there a detente button or some such thing that must be depressed before the cleaning rod can be removed? Incidentally, how long is the cleaning rod?
Depends of which type of Arisaka you own it's different. For Type 99, there is a square button on the bottom side, near the nozzle, press it and you can take out the cleaning rod. Length is about 2 feet (60cm). Or if you have Type 38, you just need to pull out the rod, no button. And its length is about 2.5 feet (75cm). The design of the type 38's cleaning rod latch mechanism is not good. Easy to stuck. And it's improved in type 99's.

Is there an interest in Arisakas in Japan?
TheSouthernGentleman 1 year ago
Yes I think so. Guns are prohibited in Japan. And certain people are even more enthusiastic because of that, I guess.

@shifta65 My type 99 has a four or five inch cleaning rod that is threaded into the stock. Comes out easy with just a few turns.
