  • this is the song whats gonna play on my funneral

  • RIP DAD

  • Even at age 62, this song moved me to tears. I lost dad to leukemia Jan 10,1993 and each and every year about this time, my mind goes back to the man who taught me so much about life and honor and doing the right thing. He taught me, even when he didnt mean to.He was a great example. And I wanted to thank Catbrush123 for this great great video.

  • @uscgccampbell All my videos are pretty amature but I put my heart and soul into them, perhaps that is why people can relate to them and me. My Dad died many years ago but looking at this video today I feel the tears whelm all over again. Thank you for your comment and for your visit. I really appreciate both.

  • @uscgccampbell your father was a very good man and a great father, not many get to have parents like yours.life continues to exist it seems never ceases, hope that comforts you a little. you can be happy cherishing his nice memories and share the same with your children.we can relate john denvers songs to our own lives, amazing singer.

  • I read the words to this song on the last page of John's autobiography and I've looked and looked for years for it in recorded form. When my father died I listened to the only thing that would comfort me and it was John Denver, I had my Ipod shuffle plugged into my ears, his voice comforted me as nothing else could. I finally found his book and the words of this song said exactly what I felt. John was a genius in putting feelings to words.

  • to true john

  • 0:11-'Yesterday,i had a dream about dying..about laying to rest,and then flying'

    Ironic lyrics,isn't it?

    R.I.P JOHN.

  • RIP: Pops...

  • Is this life just a path to the place that we all have come from?

    Yes, it is.

  • Though the singer is silent, there is still the truth in this song.

  • Thanks for posting!! I have never heard this song...it is beautiful!! Of Course, all of John Denver's songs are beautifl!!

  • Beautiful..Thankyou so much...

  • What a gift John Denver was. He music still moves people that was his true gift he is missed but still moves us.

  • I ADORE THIS SONG! I only first listened to it about 6 years ago, and it has worked its way up my "top 10 j.d's" - I just love the sentiment and the closing line, "why is it thus, we are here and so soon we are gone?'

  • So reassuring to know other people out there who miss John Denver so much.x

  • This song has the most meaning; and all of your comments are felt 10 times harder for me. THANKS

  • aspen1987...love this song....have to come and listen to it every once in a while.....

in memory of Dad, John and all the other Dads in heaven with them.....

  • I still miss JD after all these years. This song was playing in the car on the way to my Father's funeral. It still brings tears when I hear it.

  • Thank You for posting this, the first time I heard it I was at the hospital. I had picked up a John Denver tape,I took it with me,my dad had a heart attack at my oldest daughter's wedding, the wedding ended with the ambulance taking my dad out. He had bypass surgery. Two days after the wedding,John Denver died. I couldn't believe it. My dad made it thru,we lost him 3 years ago. I love this song, thanks again

  • This is a beautiful song. My daughter found it when we were looking for songs for my husband's funeral and I instantly fell in love with it. Always loved John's songs but this one really hit home. The people at the funeral home loved it and will recommend it to others if asked.

  • John wrote this song in an hour, after he heard his father had died of a heart attack. He performed it at his fathers funeral and only recorded it when his mother, Erma, urged him to. He refused to ever sing it in concert.

  • Thank you, catbrush123. It never ceases to amaze me what an amazing and beautiful man J.D. really was. No one can make me cry, no one gets inside of me like this extraordinary man and his music. I appreciate you putting these out here for us to rediscover and enjoy. I am more grateful than the simple "Thank you" can possibly express. Brightest Blessings:)

  • Extraordinary, I have never heard this before. JD wrote so many of his songs direct from his personal experience at the time. What a wonderful gift to be able to do so. What a wonderful singer. Thanks for posting.

  • MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE IN THE WORLD!!!!YOU ARE MISSED!!!!LOVE FOREVER!!!!!

  • My dad will be 94 in a few days; even though he's still here, in a nursing unit, this brought tears to me. I miss John Denver; it's so sad that he left us as his voice was getting better and better - and his words touch one's soul. Thank you for posting this; I know I will come back to it.

  • Great Song, Great Artist, Great Legacy! God, We all miss John!

  • It has been 13 years now since John was taken from us. I cry every time I listen to this beautiful song. I know he wrote it for his father, but it touches all of us. Beautiful songs from a beautiful soul. I dedicate this song to my late husband.

Your friend from the states, Frankie

  • This is one of my favorite songs of John's. It was played at his own memorial service 13 years ago this week. The line "Though the singer is silent, there still is the truth of the song" still makes me cry every time I hear it.

  • @RJDelk I've fe;t this way for all the days John has been gone. I listen to his music every day. I had the great fortune to have seen him in concert twice, once in Philadelphia and once in New York CIty. Can't ever forget this great singer and humanitarian. R.I.P.

  • @RJDelk Me Too

  • It's interesting that your reaction would be that, as I had the same reaction the first time I heard it in 1983. Denver wrote it to deal with his own grief after his father died. I've listened to this song so many times. It's interesting in that it is the only song I know of that he recorded where it is an over-dub and he is harmonizing with himself. For those who would like to know where to find this song, it's on the B side of "Shanghai Breezes" album.

  • Hi again, my friend........another great video. This song starts the tears flowing every time I hear it. Even though it has been 13 years ago when I lost my husband, the pain never goes away. Life must go on, but I still miss him.

  • Thank you so much, Catbrush!

  • Hi Catbrush,

Thank you for this beautiful song, makes me think of my dad and brings a tear to my eyes..

  • @TheCanadianairforce Thank you for your lovely comment.

  • This is truly wonderful. My question is, what year did John Denver write "City of New Orleans" and later made an album including it?

  • @greengringo2003 Only say your comment now.. sorry! City Of New Orleans was written by Steve Goodman and Mr. Denver first released it on the Poems, Prayers and Promises album, is also available on The Country Roads Collection album and has also been rerecorded on All Aboard! album.

  • This is a beutiful song cb john is a excellent singer and its nice to see you had a bond with your father for such a song to bring tears to your eyes. May light shine down upon all in the darkness of dispair.

    Yael xxxx

  • Thank you Yael and I know that you also can relate to this song. I will write to you soon... it's just a matter of getting my brain to function!!

  • This is a lovely tribute to your father Cat. John Denver's song inspired by the loss of his father is such a comfort to many. Thank you for sharing your sunrise..."There are those in this life who are friends from our heavenly home So I listen to the voices inside me For I know they are there to guide me...He is so in my heart, he is here, he could never be gone, though the singer is silent there is still the truth of his song..."

  • Thank you so much. I think any one of his songs will mean something to someone somewhere. I know they mean a lot to me.

  • Beautiful tribute to your Dad.

Always a huge John Denver fan - he was

so great... is so great. Thank you - this is beautiful !

  • Thank you very much. I see you love animals too and the practical advise you give on your home page is super. I hope anyone who reads it acts on it too.

  • Cat, do you know if John Denver recorded this song? Is it on any of his cd's? I was just wondering since I haven't ever heard it before. I have most of his cd's. It would be a shame if he did not record such a beautiful tribute to his father. As I said below, it meant a lot to me since I lost my husband. I hope that he is with John in Heaven. Maybe John will be able to teach him how to sing. : ) They both left us the same year. I miss them so.

  • Hi ,yes it's on the cd " It's About Time" I am sorry you lost your husband, I hope he is with John in Heaven too.

  • cat, I am sorry you lost your father. I, too, know the feeling of that same loss. I lost my parents when I was just starting out in life with my husband. I hope that they are having a joyous Irish time singing in the Heavenly chorus. I am from an Irish background.

  • I just received my "It's About Time" cd today. What a great cd. There are songs on it that I haven't heard before. Thanks for the info. cat.

  • Hi cat....I just found this site. I have never heard this song before. It brought tears to my eyes.....for my husband, and for John. It is a beautiful song so full of meaning for a love one.

  • Thanks for the visit and I hope you stop by again. Mr. Denver wrote this song about his own Dad and I think one can relate to it on the loss of a loved one. As with all John's songs they touch one's soul.
