Seriously, your "accent" was worse than Gary Busey's in the movie. Just sing it, you don't have to try so hard. If you want to sound like Buddy, TONE IT DOWN. Just because he's from Texas doesn't mean he sounded like this..
@JiggyMonster98 I never really expected to sound like Buddy. The two of us are from very different parts of the south and while I don't have to "try" particularly hard to have an accent, I'm sure when you mix up the one I've got with Buddy's style of singing, it might come off that way. Two years after making this video, I've noticed that I don't sound like that anymore but I haven't felt the need to go back and post another video of the exact same song.
good cover iim glad you didnt try to mimic buddy hollys voice exactly. the thing about doing covers is to doing justice to the song but kinda making it your own as well. we have all heard the buddy holly version and that will never get old to me. but im glad i came across your cover because you had a different vibe to the song. thanks!!!
Really good! Great singing and playing (solo was awesome) and genuinely feel good. great to see a cover that is loyal to the original yet has such a fresh feel to it.
fantastic,, i'm working on a cover of this currently i do a bit more psychobilly stle like the meteors, and i'm doin research on th song listening to the original and others, and yours is one of the best covers i've seen, tho those gimps who think that when you cover something you have to sound and sing exactly like the original amuse me. you have your own voice, and it works very well with this song.
Yeah, I would also try not to sound like a know-it-all when I watch other people's videos. I've always based my vocals on the real Buddy Holly. There's plenty of impersonators you can find more fault with long before you could me. This was just a simple dedication to someone who happens to mean a lot to me. I'm seeking neither praise nor critique for it.
from a fellow Holly fan, you've done this song the greatest justice of all. You played with full exhuberance and at the end of the day, thats what counts. You didnt try to be Buddy, just a damn fine singer, playing a Buddy Holly song. Without a doubt, the BEST, cover version of this song I've heard on YouTube or in the mainstream.
Thanks for the kind words and I'm really glad that you enjoyed my small tribute. If it weren't for Buddy, it would be highly unlikely that I would have ever bought a guitar or tried to sing in the first place. Even as I take my music farther by doing live performances and shows, I never leave behind the spirit that inspired it all into being.
@Agent0061958 While I agree that you did exaggerate the vocals a whole lot, well, that's rock and roll for you, I thought it was kinda fun. Rather amateurish, yes, but that's what's so good about it :P
pretty damn good...other than a couple notes in the base chorus....still. Id pay to see you play :) (Buddy is my fave singer....Shonen Knife my fave band)
Ok yeah i see you aint using all 3 fingers to hold the A chord to be able to run above as there is limited room under that capo so your using your 2 fingers or 1 to cover 3 strings for the A making it more comftable never considered that would have thought it be a D which can be using but i guess being down on high frets the A remains to sound as high as a D Like it
Yes, it's really in the key of D, just transposed so that it can be played in E, A, and B7. The rhythm and blues stuff is easier in E than in A, because the D chord is considerably less flexible than the A. For Buddy, the capo was a valuable tool.
I would have thought there was a D chord so instead of D you use A to E with the run up like you would in pegggy sue intresting i see now clearly what your up to on it thanks again for your time
Intresting how you also on the D chord drag it up a higher fret like done in peggy sue but also on The E chord also i noticed you hammer on a strng is that the B string would like for you tto explain the main song minus the complex solo and intro and i do honestly admit you do it the right way how i do capo 5th fret the way its meant to.
You just capo the 5th fret and play an A on the 7th, and just go from A to E back and forth until E "That'll be the day" B7 "when I" E "die." at the end of each chorus. I use that sliding pattern much like that I demonstrated in "Think it Over." The bridge portion is an F# "that some day, well" and then a B7 "I'll be blue". I'm not sure what hammer-on's you meant but I do add my pinky to change the A to an A7 type thing and the same with the E just before changing chords.
This is the best cover of Thattle be The Day ive ever heard. Seriously mate it is so close to the original, brilliant!!!! And i think your info is so genuine and emotional. What a wonderful tribute to a GREAT man.
you are really good at buddy's songs, do you sometimes do shows where you cover songs from buddy? I'd definatly go if its not too far away, you are awesome
one of the most authentic sounding posts I've ever heard - This video shows you have an exceptional likeness to Holly - Use it - I have a career doing it and you are closer than me to the real thing - You have the Holly sound! Nice one dude! Get a band FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can show you the ending riff to perfect the tune.

The bridge on ultimate is saying F#major but you sujjest f# ? i guess it dont matter just a slight diffrence abcent one finger
loyboy1979 2 years ago
Nah, it's a F#major. I just usually mean major unless I indicate that it's minor with a little "m" next to it.

I dont like B7 chord lolol but getting used to it as its in the solo section
loyboy1979 2 years ago
I found it uncomfortable at first, but there are certainly more awkward open chords to make... and then the dreaded bar chords.
