Hello! My Name Is Edgar And I Have Recently Purchased a AKAI MPK MINI MIDI controller and im learning about routing the correct channels and midi functions to produce the correct sounds. now I have a VST called aptrigger and it allows me to capture samples and I want my midi controller to learn it to a pad or if not a knob.but i need a little bit more explaining.
Damn nice vid man. I just ordered my maschine and gotta wait for that bitch to come in the mail. I'm probably going to run it through reaper so this gives me a good idea of what it'll be like. You got any beat cds or anything I can check out. I'm digging that groove you were layin out.
@SoundsAndGear tru tru. I've been wondering if I'm going not need anything else with 1.6, and I figured if I did I would just use Reaper. Can you record with a mic into the 1.6 software or would I need a seperate DAW for that?
@BLACKxxSMOKE well you can record whatever you want but it's not linear like a daw so it would be like recording a sample. If you want to use a daw def checkout reaper, it's cheap and can do pretty much what you need.
@asamayub i'm not one to say what is a better program for anyone because it depends on the person. You can do a lot more in FLStudio since it is a full daw, meaning you can record vocals, etc. Which Maschine isn't made to do. They can work together, for sure. I"m not a FL user personally, and I like Maschine the best for creating music, but I don't look at it as a daw. If I want to record vocals or something I'll open up Studio One, etc.
I'm going to try doing this in Sonar. Been struggling trying to do it so far but this video is showing exactly what I want to do. I hear Sonar wont do it, and I got CLOSE but still not able to record.
Why don't you midi up to your sound card so you can start/sync Reaper with Maschine? I used to do that with My K-2500 Kurz. Anyway I'm only asking. You're way ahead of me. Props.
@D84D didn't want to sync, was just using it as a rack so there was no reason to midi synch them as nothing was running in reaper, all sequencing was being done by Maschine.
@SoundsAndGear Thanks for the response fella. I see that your video is a year old. Wondering if you stuck with this set up and if so you must have some more improvements/ideas. I'm asking because I have a maschine that isn't out of the box yet and you have the most informative vid. I appreciate any feedback.
@SoundsAndGear I got a problem!! I just bought Komplete 7 from NI. Now im new to this so i need ur help. I bridged reaper with komplete 7 but when i want to play something they alway tell that they cant open my midi controller (oxygen 49 m-audio). What should i do. Thx in advance.
@Qland21 if your midi controller is turned on in Maschine, it won't show up in Reaper, if it's on in Reaper, it won't show up in Maschine. Start Maschine first, then open Reaper, Maschine should have the midi controller assigned to it, don't assign the midi controller in Reaper, assign Maschine/LoopBe
@DphL0 yeah you either need two soundcards, or a soundcard/driver that supports multiple clients at once. You can also use the multiclient asio driver made by steinberg.
@DphL0 yes, if your soundcard doesn't support multiple asio clients at once, you need two cards. Also, you can download the multiclient asio driver just search on google for it, steinberg made it
Saint Joe, thanks for the template man! Question. I can't get Maschine to see MIDI from my keyboard while in Reaper. Once I back to standalone mode it's fine. Why do you think that is and what should I do?
What up joe? I'm considering checking out Reaper this weekend. Just wondering though. The patterns that you made with the sounds from Reaper...are those recorded as patterns in Maschine like normal? Then you can sequence in either I guess, is that how it works? I'm hoping the setup goes smoothly...
@KDilla1981 nothing was recorded in reaper, all my midi data was in Maschine, this was one of the first ways I tried to use vsts with Maschine lol. It's cool...but I prefer using Live better, because I like arranging in Live better than Reaper.
@SoundsAndGear ok good to know...I may check out Live at some point. The price for Reaper is pretty enticing though...I think there's a demo for Live, maybe I'll check that out...I haven't used Maschine in a DAW yet.
@KDilla1981 yeah I was mainly using it as a rack for the vst instruments, that's kinda what I use Live for as well. But I know at some point I need to arrange the song, I prefer Live for that.
Man if we had audio/midi drag and drop INTO Maschine then it wouldn't matter, I could sequence the vsts in whatever, drag the midi over, freeze the track, then drag the audio as a sample into Maschine lol.
@jamaicantaurus everything I did is in the video, make sure you have loopbe1, and you have to set it as the output in maschine, and the midi input in reaper
Thanks a lot for this template. I got 1 question though. How can I track out a beat once I'm done with it when using this template? It's pretty different using the Maschine since you don't really see anything recorded in Reaper.
@123456btnh hti record in reaper, make sure it's set to the same tempo. This template is set to record the output of the vsts so it will record onto the track once you enable record from the transport area in reaper
Hello big man,i just bought my maschine but it hasn't got da keyboard mode.but is got da pad mode instead.Does it means dat i cant hook it up with a key board?
@mic4rap yeah that's the same thing, pad mode, then hit keyboard and it will let you play chromatically whatever sound you're on. you can hook up a midi controller to it without using pad/keyboard mode, that mode just let's you play melodies with the pads.
Thanks for the video. I finally got this going and I'm impressed but Maschine pads do not play the VSTs for me, just my keyboard - which is fine. What I really want to know, is there an easy to way to arm tracks through my controllers? I'm really new to Reaper and really don't want to be clicking on 'arm track' whenever I want to record a different synth. Thanks
I just leave all my tracks armed so when I want to record to them I can. The pads should play vsts if you have the sound set to midi out, then put your pads in keyboard mode.
what's good saint joe? when you use reaper do you prefer to have separate audio and midi tracks or do you prefer to have audio and midi on the same track using the feedback routing?
I just have everything on the same track, no need to separate. Being that I'm actually recording the midi in Maschine, I just set the audio track to "record output" and it will record whatever the midi is playing into audio when I'm ready.
hahahaha lol, you'll love it homie! For 60 bucks that program is insane, of course, you can use it for free until you feel like buying it, they cool like dat.

i been on fl about a year and half, and got some sick music, but i am thinking of moving to a better programme.

@producer4real you need to make sure reaper can see the midi from your keyboard, then you can just route it to the track Maschine is on.
