you can tell by the president's face that he's trying not to break down cying due to hearing that eerie sound of the ambassador and his phone melting from the nuclear fireball.
Geeez why did they have to make this remake? the original was soo great, and had so much more meaning and passion behind it! what was the point? If they would just aired the 1960 one on a prime time spot on TV...............
Wow...the high shrieking whine from the phone melting sounds EXACTLY THE SAME as the 1964 film version! I bet they did this on purpose though, as an homage to the original.
It's stupid ass rich Hollywood liberal Democrat movie logic like this that explain why Nixon and Reagan won by massive landslides. In real life Fonda would have been removed from office for mental health problems first. If Peter Fonda kills somebody's sister, is killing his sister going to help him in the lawsuit? Wtf? Russia'd take money
@Texasjim2007 Explain how Reagan and Nixon won by landslides? Never underestimate the stupidity of the American people. They can be tricked into anything, given enough money is spent and enough lies are used to fool them. Fonda removed for mental health problems? You're a blithering fool. Fonda's portrayal of the president is more presidential than most of the presidents we've had in the past 30 years, like Reagan, Nixon, Ford, and the two Bush morons.
Richard Dreyfuss was amazing as the president what a performance, hard to believe this was live. The melting phone sound hasn't lost it's gripping impact.
This is fantastic for a live presentation! The Henry Fonda film from the sixties is great too.
I'm curious if some of the actors were nervous before going live. I think George Clooney & Don Cheadle might have been. Keitel, Dennehy, Cromwell, etc. are old veterans, but maybe they were a little scared too!
@FigurinItOut, I think no matter how experienced the actor, the adrenaline would have been pumping before they started the 'Fail Safe' remake. Actors are insecure because of the nature of their profession. William Goldman once said that all actors realise they are only a couple of bad films away from obscurity.
in my opinion, the 1960s version with Henry Fonda is many times better than the 2000 one.. in terms of both acting and directing. still a very powerful film, though
What?
You still have mood & time to discuss who to blame.

"What do we say to the dead?"
Well, ask what every moron ask you when you get hit in the nuts and you're rolling in the floor of pain: "Are you all right?"

It sounds bad cause they tried too hard to sound like the original. The original sounded sincere. This version sounds rehearsed.
