  • did u know lighting is from the ground up!!

  • Amazing catch there! You even got "stepped leaders" during the day!!!! What a rare treat.... The stepped leaders were like the ones going through the tree but then no thunder.... Amazing catch!!!!

  • also @ 1:50 did you muffle the sound of the thunder @ all

  • if i was were where you were when you took this vid, i would either be very very scared, very very amazed, or very very both!

  • DAM NATURE

    ......

    U SCARY

  • Nowa days storms arent like that here in NJ. They last 5-10 mins and are small. I miss stomrs like the ones in the vid.

  • wow,you got some lucky shots there my friend.

i live in rockingham and we didn't get lightning that close.

still scared the shit out of me. lol

  • special fx #FAIL

  • @shmuck50 ok man, i'm not here to argue.

  • fake

  • @shmuck50 ok, well.. err i have to say i disagree with your speed of lightning. it is actually closer to 100000 km per second, i was right the second time.

  • @shmuck50 haha yeah i realised i said that about an hour after i said it, :P its speed is closer to 100,000 km per SECOND about one third the speed of light, if not faster, so yeah still, my basic point remains :)

  • Interesting discussion. Those were step leaders and not a camera ccd characteristic. Had one of those connected you would have had an incredible close-up encounter with lightning.

  • Sorry, your pool fence never got struck by lightning.

What your seeing is either lens flare or frame transfer errors.

    From Wikipedia about camera sensors:

"During the readout phase, cells are shifted down the entire area of the CCD. While they are shifted, they continue to collect light. Thus, if the shifting is not fast enough, errors can result from light that falls on a cell holding charge during the transfer."

  • Should have put some steaks on the BBQ and used the lightning to cook 'em.

  • The problem with these, if they were that close you would hear the thunder and see the lightning simultaneously not a few seconds apart from each other. Granted a few of them do happen at the same time, but most of them don't. Most of those bolts were pretty far away. It's all your camera playing tricks on you.

  • all of it was real

i had just finished basketball and was standing at the gate of my school nd a fricken lightning bolt hit the ground about 4 metres away from me

    i litteraly pissed myself

  • HOLY HANNA! you were lucky hey? were there any burn marks on the fence ot barbie?

i lived in Perth 8 years and didn't see weather this strong.. i just moved a year ago july.

    hows that for timing hey*L*

glad you and family and home faired well through it.

  • Aaawh the poor barbeqeue (sp.??) got hit as well haha!

  • Lightning never strikes twice...PIGS ARSE!

  • LOOK ALL 42 thunder hit a eart;D

  • woahh.. nice video

  • Geez this lightning is trying to kill you!

  • @TheGeeWhizz this was a real storm lol

  • fake fake fake ......the bang from the air exploding only feet away from the camera would be instant and very immense.........nice try though

  • awesome video... i woulda sh* myself.

  • I guess if you walk outside, your dead man

  • the ultimate electric fence :D. this was the coolest thing to happen in perth for a while.

  • mafiagenious @GabbyClixby... where are you from? I know that people all over the world suffer from acts of nature worst than this! and maybe you have sat there in the darkness with your 2 year old as water was crushing through the windows tring to tell her that thinks are going to be ok........ F&^K you wanker!

  • Non of these strikes did actually hit ur fence nor the bbq. However, they did strike awfully close. Probably just behind that house or next to it. the lightningstrikeflash is so bright and comes so fast that most camera's misplace them. Anyway, to put it on a tripod and go inside was the best option in this case! nice vid. :D

  • those werent leaders, it was a ghosting effect caused by the reflection of the light off the lenses inside the camera. people mistake it often for being strikes but its not. if lightning were to strike your fence you'd certainly borderline shit your pants lol. that strike at 1:15 was closer than any of those that appeared to strike the fence

  • @jrfan07 this guy is spot on, there is no way those lightning strikes were hitting the pool fence, the force of the strike and noise would be so loud next to the camera. that strike at 1:15 is what it would be like every time lightning hit the pool fence.

  • ITS NOT FAKE i was there i live in perth,

worst storm in about 50 years and how the hell would u know? it was crazy lightning that went over the whole of perth

  • @GabbyClixby Dude I live in perth too. That did not happen. The colour looks weird too. And yeah I'm sure at 1:31 when the lightning hits his fence that everything is ok.

  • @GabbyClixby Also, in the description which we know is true, "A huge storm front hit Perth Western Australia on 22nd march 2010. Bringing rail, hail, and winds up to 140km/h". Where was the rain and the hail in the entire video? And the winds were nothing if you look at the trees.

  • @mafiagenious

please see my other video (perth storm worst part) there was no way i was going to leave my camera out there in that...

And its not fake. I can't explain the colour but that is not edited - apart from slowing it down. Whether i is actually hitting the fence or not, its still pretty intense.

  • @jenrm86 I'm sorry if it is real, it's just completely different to what happened at most peoples houses so naturally I think it's fake.

  • @mafiagenious

that storm(s) lasted something like 8 hours according to Perth news. what she video'd was most likely at the beginning as the storm moved in or could have been between storm cells, who knows. but the video is real.

  • then why comment? seems to me like you made a pretty pointless move there pal =/

  • on the upside you now have an electric pool fence jinnay hahaha ;p

  • Wow! Lightning WAY to close for comfort!

Great video though! Thank you! :)

  • Great video footage, what suburb? was it taken.

  • i'm sure if it did actually strike the fence you would have seen sparks or something.. when i recorded mine, it shows a "leader" coming up from the ground when in fact it wasn't really there.. if it had of been (was less than 3m away from it), i would have certainly known about it :-)

  • @jtomo22 what are you saying? it was an optical illusion and wasnt there? it clearly was a lighting bolt and it sure as hell was there, plenty of times.

  • @holdenls1ssz250 Yes I am saying it's an optical illusion. The lightning bolt was elsewhere in the frame. The camera is not quick enough in capturing due to how quick a bolt of lightning can be therefore not showing correctly.

  • @jtomo22 id say its the effect of the camera lens, producing the optical illusion. either way the lighting strike's were close!

  • @holdenls1ssz250 Oh don't get me wrong, the lightning bolt was certainly close.. Just not that close :-) I tried to post links for a couple frames from my video to show you what I mean, but Youtube wouldn't allow me to post.

  • overlapping frames... i got the same stuff when i was recording the lightning too...

  • Can bolts of lighting shoot to the ground like on 1:02, it looks like something just threw a pice of lighting to the ground. And Wholy fucking shit that was loud, and scary, fuckin pink lighting, i mean wtf.

  • @Dragoni03 From what I understand, when it comes to lightning strikes, there are these things called "leaders", which is actually electricity being generated from the ground/earth. it is when the lightning from the sky connects with these "leaders" where you get a lightning strike.

If you search lightning leaders on wikipedia or youtube i'm sure it will explain it a lot better than I do!!

  • Ok, lol :P

  • @jenrm86 and @Dragoni03 yeah while that is true lightning does behave in that way. what you are seeing is not that. think about it for a second.... lightning travels at the speed of light. do you actually think your camera will be able to pick up something like the motion of the light.... seriously? the effect is due to flares or transition errors in the camera ands its lens.

  • thats is i dont know how to say,or what to say......

  • jesus, tipping you wouldn't of walked out there lol! the first few are the tails building static, then u see they actually connect creating the strike! lol nice

  • Hope you didn't get to much damage!

  • Very close one @ 1:16
