  • Ugly, i like the classic ones, oh future, whar have you done to them? Btw, how the hell do u walk or sit down in that tiny thing??

  • 1:05 I can TOTALLY see my sensei in this....

  • Thank you for this video!! I loved the last one as well. ^^

  • @NihonJuggalette It's not that we're straying from it. It's just that wearing Kimono all the time is very difficult, and yukata is made so that we can wear it easily and feel comfertable with it. The traditional Kimono is too heavy and too hot so it's not easy wearing it all the time. But we do wear it on special occasions.

  • They are very beautiful but very hot at the same time! & when ever i wear one on occasions and stuff, its like i might suffocate to death cuz of the おび (beltish type thing). But I love my country and its dress :D

  • i really want a kimono but parents dont want to ship it over to michigan just for me to get one also that i dont have the money

  • the colors and patterns on the 2:00 one are amazing. Good asymmetrical balance.

  • I love Jyunihitoe 十二単!!!

  • very interesting i love anything to do with japan

  • Ew why would they ruin something so amazingly beautiful by updating it to modern standard that's already whack?

  • son bellos en verdad!!

  • it's such a huge shame people cut up antique kimono for modern twists, & modern/abstract designs are unattractive. One has to have a great appreciation for tradition to wear kimono, & straying from that is wrong.

  • @NihonJuggalette Some might be hideous, yes. Others, ehh not so much.

  • My sister and i have not only wore kimono to places like the mall or McDonalds but we each have made our own kimonos. My sister has also made some hapi coats. She once wore her furisode to school.

  • I'm an IB student from Hong Kong and is currently in japan investigating about kimonos, specifically yukatas, because this is my personal project topic. I need to complete this project in order to be promoted to the diploma program. This exhibition in the video might be somewhere that can help me with the project, so where is it and is it still showing? Apparently you are very interested in this area, so do u hv any places u recommend that i can get some good information?

  • I wish I could get a kimono, but I live in Texas.

  • I greatly perfer the the traditional Kimonos these are half-ass imtations at trying to recreat the kimonos grace and form

  • i sometimes wish i was japanese so i could wear a kimono lol i really liked 0:43 (favorite) 0:55 1:05 and 2:00

  • @free2speak94 I am happy that you enjoyed the kimonos. Thank you for watching and commenting! -Kurt :-)

  • @free2speak94 Why don't you wear one any way? If I had the money at the moment, I would buy wone. :) I am totally white. :) I don't think there is a law any where that says you can only wear them if you're Japanese. :P

  • @free2speak94 u still can wear kimono silly.

  • i have a kimono that gos down to my feet but it more like the one from bleach captains the flowery onebut i love wereing it

  • The movement you mentioned is called Mori meaning forest. It's very popular as a counter to the KoGal and Lolita wear that is very showy and has a lot of detail. Mori style is made to look like you spend a lot of time in nature. Brown and beige are popular colors.

  • Hello HimeGabi, Thank you for providing the name and background information about this movement. The people I see dressed this way always look so peaceful and interesting. It's a very attractive form of dress and way of life. Thanks again! -Kurt :-)

  • @HimeGabi

Vielen Dank!

  • Wow!! all the kimonos and yukatas are great!! I too like the brown one and the one at the end with blue and white pattern. They are so beautiful <3. thanks for posting video.

  • Pretty! I always wanted one, though it would be a little odd for me to wear one here in the States :P

  • I love kimono..

  • the movement is called "Ruining Traditional Kimono"

  • I love that green one at 0:57 and that blue on 1:34. Very lovely :)

  • I love the colours and camera angles in this video!

  • the kimonos are beautiful!!! I really like all of them esp your favorite ones ^^

  • PLease tell me what that Movement is called to If You find out Kurt, I' dlove to know.

  • SQUEE! I adored the last one, that has DIY written all over it. This makes me want to get started on a few kimono requests I've had!

The brown one (at 1:20) with the shawl-type wrap is beautiful- and a good idea with how cold its getting! The blue one shown at 1:38 seems to be more from the jackets, mmm haori I think? It's an interesting cross that looks pretty sharp.

Thank you sooooo so much for posting, Kurt!!

    ~Kat

  • I'll give you a little piece of trivial knowledge. "Yukata" when written in Japanese (or kanji) literally means bathing attire/clothes. So, there you go.

Your comment about Sazae-san was pretty funny! I can totally see that! ; )

I grew up watching Sazae-san on tv every weekend!! (My mom grew up reading it in the funny paper.) Good times!

I really miss those days... (sob)

  • That last one was pretty nice. I also liked the one patch of yellow on the left shoulder and how it contrasted with all of the blue and white. Great design. :3

  • i agree

  • Whew... I was nervous there for a moment at the beginning. For the most part, these really aren't too different from what I, as an unrefined foreigner, would consider a kimono. Of course, it's the right of the culture to modify and evolve it's own customs, but personally I am glad that these new kimono do not stray far from the beauty of the classics. The last one in the video is really interesting! Thanks for sharing this.

  • Hello watcher80, I too do not want to see any of the wonderful old arts, crafts, clothing or any of the many other fascinating and unique aspects of Japan change too much or dissapear. However, it does seem that the march of the new must ever move forward. At least the direction its heading looks nice as regard s kimono. -Kurt :-)
