  • Two households both alike in dignity,

In fair Verona where we lay our scene,

Where civil hands makes civil blood unclean,

From forth the fatal loins of these two foes,

A pair of star cross'd lovers take their life.

  • if leonardo was my boyfriend i would run away with him :)<3

  • @ChilotteGoesCrazy He'd probably run AWAY from you

  • this movie is so terrible its hilarious evreyone in it are high all the time and they talk to themselves and a guy starts randomly licking his nipple wtf

  • at theaters? shouldn't it be in theaters?

  • @franzchick66 ummmm yeah it was in theaters in 1997 when it came out. And yeah it was awesome

  • leo is the best part of ths movie - hands down

  • @spideygirl28, Leo's the best part in every movie hes in...

  • i watched this movie in my English class long time ago, now that i think about it

    a) swords are cool- never substitute a sword with a gun.

    b) the ending is terrible ,they died, no surprise there

    c) middle aged slang is outdated, try watching the modern Hamlet with outdated slang sounds ridiculous

  • @leo20789 same here, they could have at least changed it up so they can make it accustomed to the technologies today, like whats next, the helicopter is a dragon, LMAO!!!!XD!!!!!

  • wait..they had guns?i was expecting swords ...

  • I like it I want to rent this movie

  • Leonardo DiCaprio is so cute! :) :) and such a good actor!!! and cute :)

  • Never gets old...

  • Dicaprio is still and I'm a man.

  • Baz Luhrmann rules. Though I didn't understand all of the water imagery.

My favorite bit is when the priest sends a messsage to Romeo "post haste" and Post Haste turns out to be a FedEx-like delivery company.

  • @corvus13 The water imagery is there to represent Life Sex and Rebirth water in literature typically means this, and Baz Luhrmann took Romeo's line "I take thee at thy word

    Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized;

Henceforth I never will be Romeo" to a whole new level and actually 'baptized' in the pool, and the whole play itself is based around them Life, Capulet and Montague feuding Sex, Romeo and Juliet fall in love Rebirth, upon their children's death do the two houses end their feuding.

  • I loved it. It was a corny movie but A BADASS ONE AT THAT!

  • OMG! I live in Mexico and I just realize that they filmed here...hahaha and only beacuse the big Jesus is near from my school

  • @sak93char That's awesome

  • Wow Renaissance Italy is very different to how I imagined it to be.

  • I was cryyyyyyyyyying when I was watching this movie, it is so beautiful & so sad.! :/

  • What song is playing in the the middle of the trailer? It's cool

  • @karynwhitefan12 Because directors are stupid! JK! Gotta love Baz!

  • I F-ING LOVE THIS MOVIE TO DEATH!

  • Claire Danes is so fucking hot in this movie.

  • were watching this in drama and me and my friend mary almost shit ourselves while watching the parts with mercutio!! xD

  • I loved Leo as Jack in Titanic.

I love Leo as Romeo in this.

    <3

  • Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!

For i never saw true beauty till this night...

  • I watched this version of the play (and our class, obviously, read the play) in English class. The play was really great, and the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, it was pretty good.

When the movie started, I thought the movie was gonna be bad, but when the movie went on, it got better. The two leads do a good job, and they had great chemistry. The cinematography was very good too. The first scene (Act I) in the movie was the only problem in the film. Other than that, pretty good movie

  • 0:08 I DIED FROM HIS HOTNESS

  • @kikibrownsayspeace lol, same

  • @kikibrownsayspeace The F*ck niqqa?

  • can i get thumbs up for no reason? :)

  • I think it's sad that the people who claimed the 1968 version was better seek out this version and then bash on it.

  • The way they say the lines just sounds retarted. The acting is AMAZING. Just the lines sound a bit gayer. Thow ARR SOOOOOO BEEEUTIFUL.

  • I admit that this is a good movie and all but it's not the best love story ever. Beauty and the Beast is.

  • I laughed at some parts of the movie, but it was still good

btw, what 's that song that starts at 0:39 - 2:06 ? somebody tell me please

  • @ThorinSHR Shakespearian? The script is the book. Thats what makes the movie cool.

    Anyway great movie. LoVeD iT!!

  • So it takes place in modern times. Yet they all still speak Shakespearean? Really dumb move. I can see some lines being copied from the original play, but the whole damn movie. I don't want them to be too different, but it was just so damn annoying.

  • @ThorinSHR It's not dumb! It's an awesome movie! The modern setting helps make it easier to understand! Thumbs up if you agree!

  • @ThorinSHR Elizabethan. Not Shakespearean.

  • Omg.. Leo DiCaprio + Shakespeare = LOVE <3

  • .. I thought this trailer was a joke.. apperantly not..

  • Okay, in every version of R+J I've seen,Paris doesn't die! wtf! I love that part! (not really..:))

  • Omg! Claire Danes is so cute in this!

  • @tiffanyag84 Yeah! Team Leo!

  • @tiffanyag84 why yes he is(:

  • Whats the songs actual name...??

  • A week after, this came out and it was darker: Ransom (1996) HD trailer

  • he was so hot..

  • WHAT IS THE SONG AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE WHEN YOU'RE ABOUT TO PRESS PLAY?

  • he didnt get ugly whats wrong with you

  • i swear they could not have gotton to better actors to play the lead role, they fit the role perfectly!

to bad leonardo got ugly haha

  • whats the first song? =/

  • Leonardo DiCaprio was HOT when he was younger x)

  • We watched this movie as a school theme but honestly, I liked it. For once, LeoDiCaprio LOOKED GOOD!!!!! <3<3

  • @Shireen102 What do you mean FOR ONCE?

  • me hace llorar :(

  • watch the 1969 version its better

  • Yum, Leo:D

  • Omg i love this movie john leguizamo is so hawt in this!!! lol he still is too!!

  • @OmgxImxNoxBitch Leo's hotter! And cuter!

  • @TheFreshman537 lol we could go on with this argument forever xD leo's cute but in my opinion john hotter ;D

  • @OmgxImxNoxBitch Okay, let's end this :) We both have our opinions We'll leave it at that.

(But for the record, Leo's younger!)

  • hey thats what katniss an peeta r called!!!

  • i love when i find leonardo di caprio in my fish tank ♥

  • Man...I agree with Romeo...for I never saw a try beauty till this night...Claire Danes is

the cutest person I have ever seen. ;-)

  • Ok, how many girls watched 0:24-0:33 over and over again? Leo+Shakespeare=HOTTTTT.

  • i refuse to let him love anyone besided Rose from titanic (;

  • @VivaVelourCouture does 1st. love not count?? ;)

  • @VivaVelourCouture

wtf viva **** you gd damn you u moutha******

  • @KUNAL7721 huh?

  • This movie is wack. compared to the 1986 movie and the book at least...

  • Okay, math fact:

Leo DiCaprio + Shakespeare dialouge + Guns + a car flipping over = TOTAL F-ING AWESOMENESS!!!!

  • this actually makes it look good

  • I get so mad at everyone saying that titanic was way better. Eh, NO! Star crossed lovers - romeo and juliet. You never hear "star crossed lovers jack and rose". people say, "you're my rome." not "your my jack." romeo and juliet rules and will always.

  • @makeupmermaid16 yeah but that has nothing to do with this movie. This movie is pure shit and it rapes the whole idea of Romeo and Juliet! Guns?? Really? if you compare this film and titanic, titanic will win, no doubt! If you compare the stories (the real Romeo and Juliet) titanic doesn't have a chance!

  • this lookes like a war movie. leonardos so much better in titanic!!!

  • @TokioHotel88722 and stabs herself, and they both die. After hearing what actually happened from the Friar, the family decides to end their feud. The End.

Note: I might have left out a few things, but you got the point. SPOLIER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TokioHotel88722 but she isnt, just unconcious. They find Juliet 'dead' and put her in the tomb. So Romeo was supposed to get a letter telling him the plan, but he didn't get the letter, but he hears that she is dead and buys some poison runs back to town to be with her. He sees Paris mouring her at the tomb and they get into a fight, Romeo kills Paris and then he goes into the tomb and see's Juliet "dead" and kills himself, right before Juliet wakes up and she sees him dead..TBC.

  • @mlffam Such a shame! The friar's plan seemed fool proof! Why couldn't there have been cell phones!

  • @TokioHotel88722 So she is way more upset about Romeo's banishment. OH! And there is this guy named Paris who wants to marry Juliet and asks her father who tells her to wait, but then Tybalt dies and they think Juliet is all upset over Tybalt and they decided to marry Juliet and Paris, even though she is already married to Romeo (her parents don't know obviously) and she goes to Friar and he comes up with a plan to give her these drugs to make her appear dead on her wedding day,...TBC.

  • @TokioHotel88722 get into a kind-of fake brawl, and Romeo steps in, but Tybalt accidentally kills Mercutio. Tybalt runs off and the comes back and Romeo is pissed and fights Tybalt and kills him. The prince finds out about this and banishes him from Verona, but he runs to the Friar and meets up Juliet and they spend one last night together before he leaves town. Juliet is pissed that he killed Tybalt, but is way more upset about Romeo's banishment..to be cont.

  • @TokioHotel88722 but then sneaks onto the estate and meets Juliet at the balcony. They profess their love for each other and decide to get married in secret, and that Juliet will send her nurse to Romeo to see what time they will meet up to exchange vows. Romeo talks Friar Lawrence (a minister/priest/pastor, whatever) into marrying them and the Nurse tells Juliet, they meet up and get married in secret. Later that day, Mercutio (Romeo's friend) and Tybalt, Juliets cousin, to be cont...

  • @TokioHotel88722 continued: so there is a party at the Capulets house that Mercutio and a bunch of guys convince Romeo to go to to get over Rosaline. Rosaline is a girl that he thinks he is in love with, but doesn't love him back. At the party he sees Juliet and it is love at first sight. They sneak away and make-out and at the end of the party realize that they are both from feuding houses: Romeo being a Montague and Juliet being a Capulet. Romeo leaves the party but then returns...to be cont.

  • @TokioHotel88722 Okay I am going to give you a breakdown:

There are two families, the Montagues and the Capulets. They both hate each, we don't know why, they just do. The servants from each of the houses get into a brawl in the first scene, this being the third brawl recently, and both of the houses start to join in until the Prince shows up (he is not actually a prince, just the 'police.') and tells them that if they fight again, the leaders of the houses will be killed ...to be continued.

  • Verona Shore: Unintelligible Jersey Talk Version

  • ugh never liked claire danes in this... the girls had Leo DiCaprio, but she was kinda geeky and awkward looking.

  • i was watching this movie yesterday on E but i didnt understand wat they were saying a little. but i didnt care cus leonardo is so hot and the sparks between the 2 was so cute! :)

  • They should of made something like this except on a boat in the Atlantic.

Claire Danes was a real cute one.

  • This is a horrible movie.

  • @AlannahClaire You have no taste, then!

  • I remember first watching this when i was 6 and thinking...."What the fuck?"

Even now im still confused....not with the story, only the words :P

  • Claire Danes is one lucky bitch.

  • We watched scenes from ths today! It was awesome! I am soooo renting it from the library! Me and my freind were hanging on to each other screaming "No!" during the death scene.

  • Leonardo always stars as the prince dude in movies lolz

  • @marthagreen24 I WISH I COULD!!

  • i've never seen this before, but ive heard of it. We're most likely watching it in English class this month, can't wait

  • Man I love this movie. I love the play even more, but Romeo sexiness makes it three bazillion times awesomer. :)

  • this trailer is bad..but I loved the movie :P

  • claire danes is one lucky girl

  • no me gusto el estilito moderno, es cuestion de gustos no???

  • There have been adaptations all over the place in time, I know that the original was set in the 14th century, this is a modern portrayal, and I know of an Anime of this set in the future.

  • this movie was SOOOOOO BAD

  • we're reading this in school!! it's my favorite book!!

  • @meghanlizadominique Whoa! Your fav book is a shakespeare play? Awesome! Team Shakespeare! :)

  • it dosent work

  • the only thing i TRULY hate about this film is how they're all American, it was an English playwright and the play is set in Italy, why American? Clare Danes is English anyway so it's not like the actors couldn't do the accents, but that makes me sound really pessimistic, can i just say this is my favourite film of all time so i'm not just being a moody cow :)

  • @poppets321 Shakespeare transcends time and place. I once was in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream that too place in America in the 1960s. The fairies where all hippies and the magic love flower was EX. It was amazing. And I also saw a production of Titus Andronicus that took place in Mexico among the ancient Maya.

  • im sorry but i HATE this version.. it takes away the beauty from it i think. i love the 1968 version, much much better.

  • @jcm890 i totally agree; the 1968 version is my favorite. even though i personally don't even like the story.

  • @jcm890 me too , i know it sounds kind of....stupid, but the romeo from 1968 version reminds me of zac efron

  • @ladydiamand dude same here i was reading it in my textbook, saw the picture and im like wtf is that zach efron?

  • @ladydiamand omg half of my english class (mostly girls) said that too, so then we joked that the balcony scene was similar to the scene in hsm when troy climbs up to gabriella's room

  • this trailer makes it look like some gangsta film.
