  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me (us). Great video.

  • Running beads is ADVANCED?!?!?! WTF is up with the preheat? I think everyone on here who likes this video and thinks they learned anything should go out and buy a $100 wire welder and build their own pressure vessel or suspension bridge.

  • now that i have watched theese two videos i should pass my welding test new job here i come

  • Thank you :}

  • For someone new to welding, this set of videos was very helpful. Thank You!

  • Thanks. Now I can use my 90 amp flux welder to practice with.

  • Amazing video. Simply amazing. The best video on Youtube hands down. Thank you very much!

  • thumbs up if you have ever done the one legged chicken dance while welding.

  • Excellent presentation! You made what you taught very understandable. Your an excellent instructor! Thank you!

  • These videos really excel. Rather than editing out everything that isn't perfect this guy shows exactly what will work and what will fail. Seeing things from start to finish helps also. Really should have a donation or buy a beer link to help him continue to provide quality videos.

  • Thanks for the excellent video

  • This guy is amazing great tips man bravo :-)

  • Thanks some great tips , have a good one mate

  • 3:40... punched in the face sound efect

  • Excellent, thorough. Can you also show how to grind and hide bad welds? ; )

  • Thank you for this and the 1st tutorial. It's been years since I last welded. I am also teaching my 11 year old son to weld and will have him watch these as well. Thanks

  • haha... this guy should be on expert village.. because he IS an expert!.....

  • wow!!! great video. All the other guy teaching how to weld (or should i say trying to) by video should watch this video first and take some pointers. thanks. If you have more tips about mig welding please keep those videos coming.

  • Very nice video demonstrating the wrong and correct was to weld. Excellent description of heat management.

  • Yeah, this is the best MIG welding primer on the web. This guy is Awesome! I saved both to my favorities. Great post. Thx!

  • Great instruction & great video. Thank you very much.

  • Great instructional video. This is so much better than most other "how to" videos. He teaches you about the equipment, safety, techniques, how its supposed to go when done right and also what it looks and sounds like when the welding is not going right. Much appreciated.

  • Very informative. I'll be doing some welding on my trail rig soon and am trying to do a little research beforehand. Great job on the video.

  • Awesome

  • LEGIT but where is the asian beauty queen ?

  • Very good! I'll try to put this into practice and hopefully achieve good welds.

  • This is excellent instruction. Also, good camera work and editing. Audio as good, scene is well lit. Everything it takes to not distract from what is being taught. Thanks so much for producing this.

  • whats good about this is he dosnt lay down some beautiful bead he shows you the steps to take to get there. hes not like well this is how you weld, draw circles then there yea go perfect bead. he explains whats behind it

  • Def the best for any beginner outthere, you are to be commended on a very well defined, and explained tutorial, even a novice can get it. Excellent! I second lucky1406, please make more. God Bless.

  • Def the best for any beginner outthere, you are to be commended on a very well defined, and explained tutorial, even a novice can get it. Excellent!

  • This is a very passionate teacher. He is teaching you with all his heart.

  • I have learned so much from these videos, please make more!

  • !!!!!!!!!! Great and perfect video thanks for doing this video and for taking your time you help me alot !!!!!!!!!!.

  • i always push the arc, never drag it ,unless im filling a bloody big hole lol.

  • Very nice video thank you for taking the time to make it.

  • how does the flux wire to compare to using gas?

  • @MNBLAZER07 flux wire gives you something similar to a 7018 stick weld

  • is it just me or does the first 3 welds look like a bowling pin and a bowling ball?

  • Absolutely fantastic videos - thank you sir !

  • haha he gets bad penno because he dragging solid wire hahahaha

  • thanks mate, you've just solved the problem i was having....... and 85 other ones that i was going to have

  • Why so many spatter ? Is it caused by the Welder or an incorrect mix of the protection gas? or both?

  • @mike19692008 there is alot more splatter with Mig welding then stick. but his also still running little cold. . U can buy a splatter spray for your tips are a grease witch he dosint mention on this video. this would reduce the splater and wont need to clean your nosiel as much also.

Not sure what gas hes useing . 100% Argon would splater more then a 75% argon and 25% Co2 tank witch is more recomended for steel.

the arc sound is wright gas is set properly 20cfm to 30cfm

  • Your welding videos are the the best on YT by far. I bought a Millermatic 212 and never had welded before. Your videos got me off to a good start!!! You should see some of my welds now!!!

  • poor

  • Excellent video.

  • This man could give lessons to robot welders! Beautiful job.

  • I feel like I can already weld,,,,Great Video...Many Thanks

  • Ah yeah UC Irvine is a pretty good school. I would never live in south california though. Hate that place. Bay area, oregon, humboltd sure but not south cali.

  • This is great advice for when I start my TIG&MIG Welding class. Going to make the bookwork easier to figure out since im more a visual learner rather then someone telling me how.

  • Welding is fun

  • LOL!!! = "One Legged Chicken dance"

    Dude, these videos are awesome.

Now I don't actually need to take those college courses. Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh, forgot to say, makes perfect sense to that the cracking would be louder if its a cold weld, since sound waves would reflect off a harder surface easier. A hot weld would have a softer sound since some of the waves dissipate into the molten metal.

  • Using the sense of hearing to determine a good weld is probably the best point i've learned on this vid. Great vid man!

  • Thank you very much for creating these two videos; they were great. I feel pretty comfortable that I could now walk up to a MIG welder and know enough to start practicing. Thanks again!

  • I love this guy's videos. They have been so informative. Literally, you can take six different videos on welding, combine them into one and they still don't add up to this. Thank you for posting. These videos have really helped me out. Don't mind the other people complaining. I would assume it is just from the jealously and frustration inside of them building up from still getting bad welds, then trying to put you down for THEM making mistakes EVERYONE makes. They simply are not able to take blame.

  • For all the "pros" why r u watching welding videos on YouTube? Just to leave ignorant comments? Seem so. Professional huh? Takes more than time on a job and skill to be considered a professional.

  • This is by far the poorest example of welding I have seen! There should never be a pit at the end of a weld. I would be to ashamed to show the job he did welding the round tube to the square tube. It looked liked they were stuck together with bubble gum! Preheating metal that thin is ridicules. What this man calls a good weld would never pass any inspection.

Take a look at weldingtipsandtricks. He will show you how to weld correctly & most important how to create a weld that is safe.

  • You made the video and learning fun and informative. Thanks!!!

  • great video on how to weld, well worth the 40 min watch ! time to go out and buy myself a mig and start practicing :)

  • Not making fun of you but... who pre heats 1/8 mild pipe and square tube? I weld stuff that's 22 gauge to 1/2 without pre heating... I just crank my machine high and wire speed than sometimes push the puddle

  • First time for me too!.....GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!.....,Awsome tips i needed!!!

    THANKYOU!

  • Someone buy this guy a beer! Great video.

  • @bravododgerbuy it your self

  • @bravododger he almost has a whole 12 pack with the thumbs up!

  • @bravododger Yes, I say on part one; give him a pay rise

  • thank u sir.

  • BY FAR, these two videos are the best I've found on YouTube for beginning MIG welding. I feel like I have a good understanding of what I'm supposed to be doing now...... Time to practice! Thank you!

  • Great stuff. Thank you very much.

I have never welded before and this is exactly what I need.

  • OMG, turn up your welder! You dont need to preheat mild steel before you mig it!

  • que berguensa la verda que meda verguensa saquen este video por respeto a los verdaderos soldadores

  • This is the most informative info I've found so far, including the so called training I've been getting at uni. Thank you for putting this up. A great starting point! more please?

  • @dewocket I HAD NOT SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BECAUSE I AM A MANNUL WELDER FOR MY COMPANY AND WOULD LIKE TO LEARN FROM THIS GUY

  • No its not its still a joke even for beginners he makes good points and welding is not as hard as most ppl make it

  • @Azsholebynature True, Im in 8th grade and i started welding for our science project about 5 weeks ago and i already love it and (i think) i make pretty good welds

  • Very good vids for us people learning basic mig welding. Thank you.

  • COME BACK HERE!! LOL..

  • How is this advanced.....I weld for a living and this is a joke. Even sounds like shit. For how old you are you should be doing much better then that you dont even have any waves in your weld u have to be kidding me.

  • @Azsholebynature i live for joking and this is our world

  • @Azsholebynature he's probably on 3 times your wage

  • How is this advanced.....I weld for a living and this is a joke

  • @Azsholebynature there are 2 vids. one basic, basic. then a little more into basic mig use. great free resource. Not meant for pros, obviously. But no joke, its good stuff for people trying to learn. Have some respect.

  • @Azsholebynature i no what u mean man it really is

  • nice,,

    cool,,

    easy..

  • He is great.

  • lol i know where phone is... what u gonna do if u just burned your fingers off?

  • wheres ms fucky?

  • right on... now I'm ready to go play with my new mig welder

  • Its a good weld but, the weld had a pin hole

  • This is a funny video u gotta be kidding me

  • the second weld he never called out "WELDING!" lol

  • good tip

  • Where is the advanced MIG welding video?

  • those welds are very terrible they have very little penetration and therefore easily break.

  • @2009betoguz It's a demonstration with one piece of scrap metal, not an actual weld. And if you're an expert why watch a video about welding.

  • yes really he is good teacher

  • we gota have control of this sucker

  • great vid.

  • he's a very good welding teacher

  • Can you only weld on a metal table ?

  • @elvis459 No, you may attach the electrode directly to your work piece, but make sure that there is good electrical contact, meaning no dirt or paint.

  • I've been MIG welding for a couple of years now...and not doing it as well as I could. Thanks for your easy-to-follow tutorials in Parts 1 and 2. Gotta get a self-igniting propane unit to start preheating. Thanks again. Some of my work can be seen at my website (jerry r martin do com without the spaces, of course.).

  • excellent video, I just started welding mig and found this to be very helpful. Thanks

  • Push the mig weld dont pull it. If you pull the mig weld you're going to get cold lap where the weld will not penetrate the metal and will sit on the surface

  • Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge!

  • I'm an engineering student, just learning to weld. This guy is a great teacher. Articulate, easy to listen to. I've learned a lot. Thanks!

  • Thank you

  • Best video on the subject I've seen. Great instructor.

    thanks a bunch.

  • Best video on the subject I've seen. Great instructor.

    thanks a bunch.

  • haha one legged chicken dance.

  • By far, the best introductory welding instructions on You Tube. The instructor is definitly a good welding instructor....

  • Buddy i love your videos. Thanks again.

  • thank you, your video was very informative.

  • You forgot to say "welding". Ive learned ALOT. Thanks alot!

  • Great video! Thanks for posting.

  • Best video on the subject I've seen. Great instructor.... Also love the Dennis Weaver,

there you go, accent. Thanks a bunch!!!

  • Again, fine job. Thanks for posting, I learned alot.

  • Thanks for your time. Great vid

  • 3:44 you forgot to say "welding".

  • Does anyone know if there is anyone who mig or tig welds with their feet?

A friend of mine lost his arms in a tragic hang gliding accident and he has been trying to mig weld with his feet. I am going to show him this video.

His attempts at mig welding with his feet are better than this guys welds. This should get his spirits up.

  • Nice vid for a noob. I have never welded anything and this helps a lot. 700 bucks for a basic course that this guy is showing for free. I love it!!!!

Some folks are bashing cause you think your good or great welders. If your that good you wouldn't be watching welding videos.

Sidney Crosby wouldn't bash 10 yr olds because of poor skating. Bugger off if you have nothing positive to say.

  • Cant stop laughing, talk about pigeon shit!!! I could of welded that round in 1 go nooob. lol: )

  • I dont know about this old man but he made me laugh with the square and round tubing lol

  • this guy knows nothing about welding penetration..

  • Thanks for both videos!

  • And it helps out a lot when you mirror welding

  • Both hands some time you you have to to get to something in a bad spot that can only b welded that way

  • is it good to learn how to use both hands, or to weld with just one hand?

  • 3.45 Welding ?!!

  • Gotta love the "experts" chiming in with their 2 cents. Classic.

  • he is a complete idiot! Lets do some ADVANCED with a 110 v welder, please. lets see some over head welding. maybe some horizontal welder. anybody can weld flat only doing a 1inch bead.

  • @threephasesponge Oh shut up.

When I was trained, I learned on small stuff first. Just like EVERY WELDER!

  • Your second bead is ok, with the exception of the crater at the end. It is also more important for the machine to cool down after welding than to 'warm up' before welding as the electrical load creates heat within the machine. There really is no 'warm up' period for a welding machine. You can also control the application of heat without pre-heating your peace. Most welders are not looking for the 'roll of dimes' bead with the MIG process, but a 'stitch' bead will create the effect.

  • good vid, i like this, lot better than some of the pompous a holes that think they know everything. nice that someone takes the time to actually explain things.

  • thats a freakin huge cylinder for that little 20%er

  • Thanks for the video, it's very useful for beginner like me.

  • He's an excellent teacher. The way he showed the steps he went through to get a good bead near the beginning was very helpful.

  • This guy is a complete Idiot. you shouldn't take off your gloves everytime you get a chance, unless you're doin with your project or taking a break for a long while, don't risk getting burned. and No....you DON"T have to cut your wire to a fresh start everytime. it's just messy, you're gonna have to clean all that up and over time, copper gets extremely expensive. it's actually better if you just arc off to some scrap metal and have a nice HOT red tip.

  • @syvo1186 he's not a complete idiot. LMAO but I agree that arcing off to scrap is the way to go. Besides, who has pliers often enough to go through that every 5 minutes? It's better to just master the obligatory arc-off-to-something-on-table technique.

  • @syvo1186 actually it is better to trim your wire. it will allways give you a cleaner start. not to mention that if you have to much stick out your more likely to bump the application. and gloves are important, but the whole point of welding is being aware.

  • @syvo1186 The wire is not copper. It is copper coated steel. If you were welding copper you would weld with copper filler, but not with the MIG process. Copper welding would require DC, electrode negative, TIG welding...As would Titanium, with TI fill rod, Stainless with stainless fill rod, etc. Aluminum and Magnesium require AC TIG as alternating current cleans the material as you weld, but don't try to weld magnesium - once exposed to oxygen it may burn uncontrollably.

  • at 24:30-24:45, am i blind or the table is.... ummm, melting in a spot to the left of the iron plate, under the square profile?

  • You said 1/4" plate that you are welding!? Well with that machine that you are using it would probably do you some good by doing 3 things.

    1) Check your heat settings on your machine, if it is up all the way, then perform steps 2 & 3.

    2) V grove both pieces down by 1/2 the thickness of the plate.

    3) Preheat your material a little with a propane torch, followed by welding your 2 pieces together. You may have to do 2-3 passes.

    I hope this helped any!

  • first off, i would hate to have to pay for all the wire that this guy is wasting, dont clip the dumb wire, just let go of the trigger, and pull the gun back, dont let the wire keep coming out. as for the heat build up, he hast been welding near long enough to get the tip hot. that is where tip control comes into play. as far as the safety, welder equals heat, figure it out, ya get burned your dumb. good video for beginners to watch and get tips, but not the best ive seen.

  • Who cares about welding. Bring back the China doll !

  • Lmao seriously? I'm only 16 and I can weld better than him. >.>...

  • Don't know if I would call this advanced, but for a beginner it would be good.

  • @jwilson811 agreed

  • love the way he turns machine off when finished, lucky he wasnt welding for to long

  • I really wonder where this guy learned to weld. At 5:42 when he says he let the wire get too hot, that wasn't "heat build up" that was caused by him pulling back on the gun before releasing the trigger. The resistance of the wire caused it to heat up. I highly suggest looking for information on MIG welding from another source because this guy is way out in left field. I'm sure he is an excellent instructor in whatever other classes he teaches, but as far as welding goes he has a lot to learn.

  • @chimera91977 Yeah, and that second bead he did before, the end of it looks like he blew a hole in the metal at the end of the bead. Has the amps too high.

He is also stuck on trimming the wire after every weld, what a waste. You're supposed to let off the trigger then quickly lift the head away from the metal so it always ends up 1/2 to 1 inch long, no trimming needed.

  • I LOVE the stack of dimes finish it looks soo awesome

  • Always cleana part before welding it. Rust contains oxygen which gets released during the welding process.

  • @3star2nr Yeah, but that part didn't have a spec of rust on it... and using a propane torch to preheat tubing? Tubing heats up so quickly when welding, why would you need it?

I can see preheating caste iron because of the thickness but not something that thin...

  • Great presentation! Thanks.

  • Hey I was wondering about the angles of the torch. I have experience using a arc welder. Now with arc welding you have to do several different angles to manage the heat properly, and was wondering with mig is that the same or are there less need for a bunch of different positions.

  • @wolfman852010

Usually there's no need for a lot of different angles when welding with slick wire or flux core. Once you've got some practice you'll know what angle to weld at allowing you to see the "pool". You can manage your heat through voltage and the speed of your weld passes.

  • nice guy

  • Thanks so much! You are awesome!

  • Thank you, love your videos.

  • very useful, it will certainly help me welding in class

    Neil aged 15

  • Excellent video for people wanting to learn a little bit about mig (like me!) thanks for sharing

  • I found this video quite informative.

  • If I were learning to weld, I would find this video very useful. I weld for a living myself. Good job.
