Slowly, people ARE starting to realize what Fox and other media outlets are all about... It's time for the News to be News again. 3 part solution: 1. Every channel must provide a 1 hour News program WITHOUT COMMERCIALS. 2. News programs should not be rated by any Ratings system. 3. All News Channels live by the same rules, but are "Pay TV" for revenues as opposed to advertising.

I don't think the question is if the program is good one the question is if the government should be using Federal tax dollars to pay for it. I am sure that it is a good program but I don't think it is right to force people to give to charity by giving tax dollars to these types of organizations.

The problem with bills as large and broadly focused as this one is that you can include money for pretty much whatever you want and sometimes no one notices. Giving money to a catholic organization is against the law. No public money should be going to churches, especially churches with trillions of dollars in real estate that doesn't get taxed. I do see benefits in helping pay to have them removed if it will help in keeping more people out of jail. It's not for them, it's for us. To help with the rehabilitation process. If that process fails instead of a small amount per person to remove tattoos it's 10s of thousands a year to confine them. The question we should be asking is does it work, if so then it's a good investment. In general programs of the type do work.

The report was unfair and preyed upon people's general ignorance and apathy over our governmental procedures. However, the question of whether the program is important is, in my mind, irrelevant. The issue of "pork" must be dealt with sufficiently, and Obama missed a chance to do so by signing this bill. If the program is a good one, it should be proposed on its own merits. And to the point that doing so would waste too much time, then such bills should be handled on a local level.

Gang tattoo removal is alive in many communities throughout the U.S. It is usually funded by those communities and really is crucial to some individuals leaving a situation that they became involved in at a very young age. They were branded and afraid to leave. You can see the mocking tones and irritation in the newscasters voices before they even give any "information". Fox hires actors, not newscasters.

The report was biased as hell. I work for Human Resources in a major medical center and I know that an applicant's appearance does matter. If we had an applicant come in with Sur 13 gang tats it's unlikely the managers would consider hiring the person despite the fact they might be a good candidate and working really hard to turn their lives around. Frankly, I'd say it's worth the money, though I'd like to see the program become self-sustaining through setting up a deal with local government so the community service that is done helps fund it... but it would need massive details worked out. These bills take time to get on the floor and people have worked on them for months and months prior to Obama's inauguration. This was the last major bill on the floor. Everything from now on is Obama's turf and is fair game.

it can seem trivial at surface glance (the typical faux news approach) but one can literally measure the benefit to society in the ability of those involved to participate productively in society after having these stigmatizing images removed. Gang tattoos are an automatic employment-killer. So a program to remove them is very productive. I've worked with folks in Silicon Valley with tattoo-removal scars, and I know they would never have gotten their jobs had the tattoos still been visible.

I agree with this statement. However I would like to point out the majority of the money the government spends does not come from tax revenue. They borrow and print most of it, which from my view point is actually worse.
I think we should obviously go after the less worthwhile spending before cutting into spending towards less amoral things but honestly... that we have passed eleven trillion in debt is making it hard for me to sleep at night.

the omnibus spending bill isn't about new laws or programs it is congress agreeing to fund all the stuff it passes bills about in the past. basically its a stamp that gives the treasury permission to spend the money on those projects. Earmarks added to this bill provide grants for specific pet projects of congresspeople, and when you look hard enough these programs are generally good and reasonable expenditures. the only way to call most of it "pork" is to generalize it and leave out info

While the tattoo removing nuns may be a bad example, Tiger Stadium is not, and I'm sure there are hundreds of other examples like it. The problem with bills as large and broadly focused as this one is that you can include money for pretty much whatever you want and sometimes no one notices. This is why Clinton tried to get the line-item veto and why Obama has considered trying again (even though it's unconstitutional). Personally, I think it's a pretty good idea.

I do agree with you that the people wanting them removed should help pay in their removal, however not all of them pay to have them put on, most are home-made prison tats. I do see benefits in helping pay to have them removed if it will help in keeping more people out of jail. It's cheaper to help get a tattoo removed rather than footing the bill to feed them for 6 months or more while they sit in jail on some gang related charges.

It's not for them, it's for us. To help with the rehabilitation process. If that process fails instead of a small amount per person to remove tattoos it's 10s of thousands a year to confine them. The question we should be asking is does it work, if so then it's a good investment. In general programs of the type do work.

The report was unfair and preyed upon people's general ignorance and apathy over our governmental procedures. However, the question of whether the program is important is, in my mind, irrelevant. The issue of "pork" must be dealt with sufficiently, and Obama missed a chance to do so by signing this bill. If the program is a good one, it should be proposed on its own merits. And to the point that doing so would waste too much time, then such bills should be handled on a local level.

You didn't answer if they were credible journals.
Lets look at potential sampling issues (biases). Where did they draw their samples from? If they drew blacks from a poor area and whites from a rich one, then the whites would score higher, as they likely have higher education. Then it becomes an issue of money, not IQ. Either way, there's no need to be racist. There's enough hate in this world as it is, we don't need more.

The point is they explained the earmark in a way which made it sound pointless and insipid. They biased their viewers by not supplying them with sufficient information. And since many people get their news solely from TV, some solely from Fox, yes, they do have a responsibility to report accurately and fully. Especially when they're deriding something.

Edison didn't really invent alot of the things he is credited for. He basically had a factory where others worked, and when they made something wothwhile he claimed it and sold it. Edison was the 19th century version of an infomercial salesmen.

Gang tattoo removal is alive in many communities throughout the U.S. It is usually funded by those communities and really is crucial to some individuals leaving a situation that they became involved in at a very young age. They were branded and afraid to leave. You can see the mocking tones and irritation in the newscasters voices before they even give any "information". Fox hires actors, not newscasters.

The report was biased as hell. I work for Human Resources in a major medical center and I know that an applicant's appearance does matter. If we had an applicant come in with Sur 13 gang tats it's unlikely the managers would consider hiring the person despite the fact they might be a good candidate and working really hard to turn their lives around. Fox News needs to get their head out of their ass and look at the big picture instead of trying to sell their spin.

Fox is a comedy show, not news. They're entertainment and comedy. Getting news from them is like basing your view of the world on Larry the Cable Guy.
Frankly, I'd say it's worth the money, though I'd like to see the program become self-sustaining through setting up a deal with local government so the community service that is done helps fund it... but it would need massive details worked out. And also assuming the tax money isn't paying for church related things, just the program.

Come on...this happens every time there's a switchover - the incoming president gets blamed for the past one's final mistakes. These bills take time to get on the floor and people have worked on them for months and months prior to Obama's inauguration. This was the last major bill on the floor. Gang tattoos are an automatic employment-killer. So a program to remove them is very productive. I've worked with folks in Silicon Valley with tattoo-removal scars, and I know they would never have gotten their jobs had the tattoos still been visible.
