It has been some time since we pieced this together, but I recall the controller/receiver was taken from a remote control model helicopter. One of the finger switches on the controller activated a small servo on the car that flipped a toggle switch, closing the circuit through the rocket ignitor. The car itself is a solid rear axel design with single-stage gearing that we fabricated and pieced together in our shop at Cal Poly SLO. Good luck with your project & be sure to post your video!
