  • This is such a beautiful version. Thank you so much for posting

  • did that gal play pipes on Soul Cages?

  • @rgouette yes

  • Beautiful! Especially around 3:00 the interlude is just incredible!

  • @VladtheEmailer Totally agree!!!

  • Had a great weekend in Newcastle in Dec 2009, went to this pub in Byker and sat where Sting sat here and then the next night saw him sing it live at the Sage Gateshead, top weekend. :-)

  • he should have sung it in a jamaican accent mon.

  • What kind of instrument is she playing? Usually you have to blow into the bagpipes, right? But she doesn't seem to be doing that

  • @tanyeshka1

That's Kathryn Tickell playing the Northumbrian Bagpipes. They're bellows pipes, like the Irish or Uillean, (elbow) pipes. In fact, the only Bagpipes that are mouth blown ARE the ones everyone knows, the Scots "Great Highland Pipes", which are War Pipes! They're too loud to play indoors & cannot be sung over or played with flute or fiddle: They're deafening!

Even the Scots have a quieter "small pipes" or Lowland pipes that are like those in the video.

  • Thanks a whole bunch for posting this !!! Those pipes, that open tuned guitar, those lyrics and above all, that spine tingling melody - bloody hell - stuck for words.
