  • I had this when I was little. I got it when it like first came out I was three and played it all the time! When I got to school, I was the only one that had it and EVERYONE had to come to my house and try it! Ohh the good ol 90s!

  • Oh! Also, if I remember correctly, the Sega Channel mascot's name was Pat. Right?

  • I so remember Sega Channel. Oh, I was happy beyond belief when I got it. Considering I only had like 2 or 3 games for the system, this saved me and my money renting games from Blockbuster. Yay! Happy times! :3

  • Where are the big mac banners ? I'm happy xbox live finally got it right.

  • Dude fuck yes! I love stumbling across this old stuff. It took me FOREVER to convince my parents to get this for me.

  • Wanted to check it out, only heard of sega channel from a 1995 Howard stern show when Howard's yelling at Gary about the sega channel.

  • the days i had the sega channel man they dont know about this man

  • I came home from school to find my dad had Sega Channel installed in my room. I about shit a brick. I spent so much time everyday scrolling through the menus in between wiping cheeto gunk off my fingers.

  • no believed me omg i remb playing wit my sis all the time :) glad im not goin crazy its proof right here . thanx

  • I would stay up late at night at the end of the month to see the new 50 games for the month... Nostalgia overload! thanks!!!

  • They look crappy, but i think its cool to have all those games at your finger tips

  • Azurites first video... Hmm...

  • @suckswithpivot oh no, i had videos of me playing video games before this, like around 3-4 years old :P

  • @azuritereaction OMFG YOU REPLIED YOU REPLIED I LOVE YOU SO MUCH YOU'RE A GOD

  • @TheDragonAgeGuy probably at some point, this tape, i mean

  • i still dont understand whats going on

  • @iamluke420 did you read the intro text

  • 1:19 Nightcrawler?

  • Ahh, the good old days. i remember asking my mom for 10 more mins everytime because i would stay up late..... I remember getting the belt after 10 mins and saying can i have some more time...

  • When was this discontinued?

  • I had Sega Channel. I actually won a free month one time on it :D

  • Part 2 is finally reuploaded :)

  • way to go man. got it Christmas of '95 I think...then I saw on tv guide channel they wouldn't have it no more.

  • I wanted Sega Channel so much when I was little

  • Every month they would switch out about 30 of them for new ones. I used to get so pumped over that thing. My best friend would come over and we would wait up until 2:00AM or whatever time it was the change went down. It took about 5-15 to update so while it was updating we would be doing flips off the bed and anticipating what new games they would bring us.

It's a great childhood gaming memory.

  • This brings me back. I actually remembered how crushed I was when it was announced that the Sega Channel would end. Thanks for posting.

  • I had Sega Channel and thought it was the greatest thing in the whole world back then. I had it for it's entire run and was so upset when they canceled it. I totally nostalgia'd out when watching this. Thanks for the memories.

    Landstalker.... <3

My friend and I ALWAYS used to play Skeleton Crew. Haha.

  • Thanks for this... my cousin and I had this and we were on here all the time! Thumbs up for the nostalgia!

  • lol i the loading screen theme music brings back memories of me and my friends playing this

  • Oh man! I used to have Sega Channel back in Texas in the mid 1990s. I miss those days! Thanks so much for uploading!

  • I remember playing with my brother all day on a sega channel promotional stand in a commercial mall, I was around 8 at the time (24 now), and even though that was the one and only time I played I never forgot the logos or intros..

Just today I rememembered it, found in wikipedia the name of the system, then found your video, many thanks.

  • I remember when I got this back from my cable provider around '95 or so. This was the first time I was able to play Mega Man: WW and Pulseman. Sometimes what would suck is that every month, the 50 games that you would have would change, so if you playing a game that you're addicted to, you better finish the game by the end of month, for it might be gone the next.

  • This video is EPIC! Do you have any more Sega Channel videos?

  • sega must make shenmue 3

  • Lots of captain planet (the sega game) sounds :P

  • Proof that Sega was indeed AHEAD of the times...if only they would get back in the hardware market or at least put out great games and not half assed marvel superhero games

  • Oh yes i remember this my cousin had it and I would always wanna go over there just 2 play it lol funny thing I came across a sega channel rom tho it doesn't play i just have it on my psp 4 memory purposes

  • OMG i remember this.... i miss this, i remember sneaking up on a school night to see what new games were a vailable to play after i got home from school lol....

  • Man I Remember when I got my sega for christmas and Sega Channel was my first game, it was the very first Beta for game consoles. I miss it

  • LOL 1:28 is Donkey Kong Country music.

  • @RetroGamerr1991 almost

  • so this was steam back then

  • you ever played garfield the lost worlds

  • This was a cable marvel. This helped revolutionize many cable systems today. Before this - Any coaxial cable would work. But once this came out - the shitty cable that spanned thousands of miles of homes, let foreign signals in (Ingress), and make the Sega Channel work strangely. Most analog stations worked good enough, But now with everything digital, and signal critical, cleanup has been an ongoing issue since. This was even before many systems had Cable Internet, Telephony, or Digital Cable!

  • I miss Sega Channel so much it hurts.

  • I wish I could go back in time so I can play it as it was....

    The internet killed it.

  • I have heard of this in the past but never seen it, thanks heaps for the upload.

  • im happy to say i had this growing up..

  • I don't know why but I really like the font lol

  • Thank you so much for this sega channel video!!!!. I was looking all over youtube for sega channel related videos and couldnt find any until now. I remember playing sega channel alot when i would go to my cousins house back when sega channel was still around :). That opening intro brought back alot of memories by the way :D. Thanks so much again for the video

  • Thanks for uploading this... I don't recognize some of the menus so i'm thinking I had the Sega Channel at a different period of time than the recording of this video.

    Such nostalgia. Thanks again!

  • Yep I had this too back in the early 90's. I remember the Preview Channel even talking about the cool additions before scrolling the tv shows!

Yeah they changed it up the last couple of months where they changed the 50 games every 2 weeks.

I also remember staying up sometimes but the games wouldn't change until like 4am where I lived.

I never had any brothers but my sister and I would play Combat Cars and some of the PGA golf games one summer a lot!

    Good times-- So innovative, too!

  • My older brother had this and id always be in his room playing it! My fav games were echo (sp?) where u can be a whale or dolphin and swim around. I'm a girl apparently lol

  • Hey man awesome video. I had sega Channel and it was pretty much the greatest thing ever. We used to stay up till the games would change over each month Usually around 1 or 2 am. But sadly for some reason they wouldnt change over till like noon the next day. It's hard to remember back then but didn't they change up the service at the end? I remember them switching the games like every 2 weeks at one point. Also we used to pray for adult only games... there was never any :-( lol

  • does it still work today?

  • thanks for putting this up...i used to stay at this ladies house for the summer with other kids, and one summer they hooked this up and we were one this shit all day, playing the hacky sack game...lol

  • thanks for sharing. i had this when i was a kid, i'm thinking around the latter part of its life, i must have been about 9 or 10

  • Dude this is fantastic. This should be playing at Video Game museums worldwide!

  • now this takesme back. this was so so far ahead of its time!! video games on demand before the internet, before on demand cable,,

  • It's pretty cool that Sega pioneered the online capability of video game consoles with this and Dreamcast.

  • I remember begging my parents for this. It was like 20 bucks a month right? In the 90's, that was a lot of money! I also remember the channel was 4 1/2. I was blown away when I saw this on the "Preview Channel". Channel 4 and a HALF?!

  • @SocialKeyboards

i think we paid $14.99 but im not sure.i was at lest 13yrs

  • Never saw this (since it never came to where I live (Australia) and it is a few months before my time), but it sure looks cool, funky and retro.

  • I actually remember the month 2 & 3 menus. I would always get up really early when the games changed every month/2 weeks. I'm nostalgia-ing all over the place.

  • im seriously about to cry... I was one of the only people out of my friends to be lucky enough to have sega channel... sooo many games.... sooo many memories.... the music brings it all back.... Beyond Oasis...

  • thanks mate..this is the first time i heard of sega channel... even i was born in 80's..

  • @msn83235502 i was born in 85, haha

  • Ten people were born in 2005.

  • This is like Playstation Store back in 1994.

  • Had mine from the start to the end! Thanks for this awesome museum piece of video!

  • SO MUCH NOSTALGIA :D

  • Family Room: "Ecco: The Tides of Time"

Uh, okay. :x Some frightening concepts later in those Ecco games. "Let's watch Junior play as a dolph--OH MAH GAWD."

  • come on people. we have made an emulator for the xbox system-to-system lan with a pc and internet. why cant we make an emulator for sega channel? all we'd need is a tv tunner card and a program. and in the program there would be every game for the sega channel ever relesed. it would take time but shouldn't some one make that? thumbs up if you aggree.

  • This is so cool to see. I didn't have a Genesis growing up and only learned about the Sega Channel recently. Now I can have an idea of what it looks like! Thanks for the video!!!

  • I used to record on VHS playing these games too, but moving all the time caused me to lose them. I appreciate you keeping yours to share with the rest of us '90s kids this priceless memory.

  • Dude, I nostalgia'd all over myself.

  • OH MY GOD! You just made my day! I miss those days

  • how did the download system work? it was a blank cartridge? did the game erased when you turn off the genesis?

  • @panqueque445 yeah, it was a flash ROM: the cartridge could only hold one game at once. this meant RPGs would lose their save if you loaded up another game after playing it, unfortunately

  • @azuritereaction that's awesome anyways just download a game it must have been really cool, i didn't think it was posible to do that at the time,

  • YES! I havent seen these menus since I was a little kid! Feels like I jumped back to 1996 ^_^

  • Is mega man sc exclusive the wily wars?

  • @M200XL yep

  • I MISS THIS!!!! WHY CHILDHOOD WHY DID YOU HAVE TO END?!?!

thumbs up if you had the Sega Channel and/or XBAND

  • Sega was light-years ahead of every company with its cable modem service and the Sega channel was better than any current game rental system we have today. I played so many games I normally would never have had access to. (Beyond Oasis) It really was great.

  • such sweet memories. i loved the intro song!!

  • I swear to god, they have the Donkey kong Country music at 1:30!!

  • This and Xband were the shit!

  • @erik4727 amen man...wasn't childhood amazing?

  • @EminemFan202 you know this

  • @erik4727 yup..good times good times

  • I see you sometimes just liked looking at the menus as a kid. No worries: I did the same thing. I guess I just dug the backgrounds at the time.

  • I wonder, If anyone still had the old module, could it be redirected to a rom-filled computer to re-create the experience?

  • i miss sega channel so much, they should make a sega emulator that has menu's like sega channel

  • @SlipKoRnNinja i totally agree, that would be SUH-WEET!! XD

  • Hey do you have any more footage? I'd like to see (and remember) more!!!

  • @Slayerfan777 i do, but it's just of me playing various games, the only interesting content might be the loading screens for the games.

  • @azuritereaction I think you should upload it anyway, I'd like to see it!

  • @azuritereaction

Can you watch tube kitty on it of xHamster?

  • Curious, which adapter did you have? The big tall blue and black one or the short block size black and white one?

  • @Crescens1080 the short black and whtie one, i think

  • Comment removed

  • Man, I miss the Sega Channel. Thank you for these videos, brought back some memories of my childhood. Had it from about Month 2 or 3 til it went under. Played many a great game I otherwise would not have. A+ thanks.

  • I remember playing nothing but Road Rash on the sega channel......oh the memories =)

  • wow man, brings back those good memories. When the tv guide channel said that sega channel was no more, that was a sad day indeed.

  • How did save games work? For example it would be really tough to beat Shinning Force II in one sitting.

  • My childhood memories relived, thanks dude!!

  • My cousin had sega channel and i was SO jealous. I also liked his model 1 genesis compared to my model 2 i got for christmas. But I got the 32x and he never did, so i guess....well, he still wins, because 32x had like 4 1/2 games.

  • Allowing you to play new games on a network, new games updated once a week. Sega was definitely the most genius system ever made.

IMAGINE ninendo, sony, or microsoft could think of something that rivals this!

  • I really don't remember the Sega Channel. Man!! The Genesis had too many peripherals, it sorta killed itself. Nintendo didn't try adding on so much stuff to the NES to keep it a live. I wonder why Sega thought the Genesis would last forever. It's too bad. It was their most successful system. But, I don't remember the Sega Channel

  • i rememeber beggin for this shit. i rememeber we were set to get it but it was rather expensive in canada.

  • this would have blown my mind had i seen it back then!

  • Man i think this was the biggest thing to happen in gaming 10 to 15 years ahead of it's time.

  • Spinball is a puzzle game? No wonder my brain hurts trying to play it...

  • Sega Channel is how I found Shining Force. To think I saw some of the same screens in this video.

  • I used to have one of these..I played it soooo much.

  • 10 people Disliked this... they obviously weren't there and will never understand.

Also, here is some navigation to an actual arranged song from Sega that became one of the Main Menu themes for Sega Channel.

Look for a site called "Sonic Wrecks" and go to their Music section, find the album called "Virtual Sonic" and download the track "Boss Opera."

This is that heavier rock song used around Month 3 on Sega Channel.

  • this is one thing i miss about the 90s

  • Oh wow, thank you so much for this, i've been trying to remember what it looked like. Ahh....nostalgia

  • First off, thank you for uploading. It brought back some great memories. I remember on that loading screen you change the colors around with the buttons on the controllers. I also remember when the games would change at the beginning of the month I would try to start it up right at midnight but it would stay on that loading screen forever. I remember that feeling of anxiousness like it was yesterday.

  • SOB SOB SOB i shoulda want the sega channel time me back 2 the 90s 4 crying out loud

  • You rock! Thanks so much for putting this up! MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks, this was my main key to my Genesis games back in the day. Is it me or does that silloutte guy look kinda like Johnny Bravo?

  • Those were the good ol days.

  • My neighbors used to have this when i was a kid. Thanks for putting this up, brought back memories.

  • Thanks for a great trip down memory lane.

  • Sega Channel prollie inspired OnLive

  • Hah, I bet when you were 9 and recording this on VHS, you wouldn't have thought 15 years later it would be watched by dozens of thousands of nostalgeeks around the world who'd praise you for saving some of the History of video game :p

  • do you have to pay for the games?

  • THANK YOU! fuck! NO ONE KNOWS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT EVER WHEN I MENTION THIS. caps.

  • nostaliga much?

  • OMG I miss sega channel so much! I had it for only like, 8 months before one of my brother's gangbanger asshole friends broke into our house, and stole a bunch of our stuff; the TV, my sega, and the sega channel cartridge included.

This idea was freaking brilliant on sega's behalf.

  • i begged my parents for weeks to get me this... and finally one day there was a big white van in front of my house... inside my room there was a man... and he was hooking this up... much tears of happiness were shed after that

  • THAT WAS THE BEST TIMES EVER IN GAMING FOR ME!

  • This was all when I was about five or six years old... so, what exactly was Sega Channel?

  • Dude you single handedly preserved the "Sega Channel" legacy. I loved this time in my life, Just coming home from my first job and relaxing playing video games on the sega channel. You are a true historian thank you....

  • I remember this :P thanks for the upload...

  • LOL at 1:36 it reminded me of Jungle Hijinx.

  • ahh 90s..good times..

  • watching this was like being shot in the face by nostalgia

  • You can't really say this show the games available, but rather games available at the time of recording (even though there's multiple months) as well if you'll take note, some of the games featured never even made it to the US (pulseman anyone?)- the sega channel had a rotating library. i miss this company, they were like a beautiful blend between crazy and genius' .....creative innovators to their [hardware division] bitter end, not much of a fan now.

  • how did you record yourself playing when you were 9???

  • @edgey57 i hooked my VCR up to my television and recorded what was on the screen as I played on the genesis.

  • @azuritereaction holy crap you were pretty smart haha i would have never thought of that...:p did you say to yourself "i will use this footage in 20years and it will be the greatest thing ever" haha love your vids man

  • @azuritereaction

    I did the same when I was 10 ^_^

  • The intro screen reminds me of the Sega Action 52 title screen.

  • MY GOODNESS THIS REALLY BRINGS BACK MEMORIES...I STILL REMEMBER ALL THE MENU SONGS! U OUTDID URSELF WITH THIS ONE! i may be gettin a lil 2 outta hand but still its nothing like bringin back old memories

  • gosh dang it! i missed sega channel and was to much of an uneducated nintendo noob to use seganet!

  • best 14.95 a month i spent as a kid...

  • Wow! Its a real good thing people are nerdy enough to tape their video gameplay. If it weren't for people like this, we seriously would have no knowledge of the past. This is about as good as you can get to experiencing the SEGA Channel. I really kinda wish they would have done more with it besides games. There used to be a TV show on in the nineties when I was a kid, don't remember what it was called, but had game tips and info. It was IGN on TV. Good find man. Thanks for posting it. AWESOME!

  • @NeoMahi it was called Video Power!! :-)

  • Holy Crap. Its Xbox Live arcade the original !!

Sega really were so innovative. Sega will always hold a special place in my heart. I will remain a 'Segaboy' forever :)

  • SEGA channel was so legit, way ahead of its time. I remember waking up 4-5 hours early before school, talking 3,4am, and checking out the new stuff, it was easily the beginning of my love for gaming.

  • I wonder if it still would work today...

  • I love that theme.

  • This is so amazing. I remember seeing ads for Sega Channel on GameNation way way back in the day. I always wished I could use it, but I was a SNES kid back then! This definitely looks like it would have been worth the switch :P

Nice video! Waiting on part 2

  • @Menello there's already a part 2 up

  • could you play all this games? Full lengh?
