It's also worth mentioning that without an outlet for violence like video games and music, then real world violence would probably increase. Though, many things these days are at the expense of dealing with reality, most notably Facebook and WoW to name a few digital things. Even technically Youtube fits this, although there's some advantages obviously.
A new original NES game came out a few weeks ago. Search for "blade buster nes" to find it. It's professional quality.
You know that the games I'm working on are the type that you mention in this, right? Old-school quality fun games.
I like Reagan's first cabinet meeting. When asked what he intended to do about the cold war, he answered "I'll tell you what we'll do about the Cold War. We win, they lose". That sort of American kick-ass attitude has been lost to political correctness
Was that a yes you like them or a yes you see them at gun shows? Or both! I think they are beautiful enough to display in a room. I like the ones with the dark finished wood barrel and engraved bronze handles. : ) There is a flintlock rifle at the Walter's Museum. It's Persian and encrusted with jewels, it's gorgeous. They have a nice collection of armour and arms.
@fairiebee Technically, if a musket has a rifled bore, it can be called a rifle. The blunderbuss (ancestor of the shotgun) had a smooth bore, though, because it didn't need a rifled bore.
@IggyHazard What is the wood on a flintlock pistol called [under the barrel]...hm...let me get my book. :) Actually it doesn't say [although it calls the "handles" ..."grips" actually. This one is particularly beautiful, it hasornate silver side plates. I'm actually looking at a picture of a holster pistol. Sorry, this is probably boring anyway. :)
@fairiebee The wood under the barrel would be the forearm. Actually, I'm not sure if it's used as a forearm on a flintlock pistol. They're usually fired one-handed.
That was referencing Alex from Huxley's novel. This isn't related to ultraviolence but, I am really fascinated with flintlock pistols. Do you like those? They are so beautiful (regardless of practicality). Do you ever see them at gun shows?
@fairiebee Yes! Authentic ones are considered collector's items (in some cases EVEn heirlo0ms) but there are reproductions of some ye olde designs. There are a lot of historical and classical enthusiasts out there. The use of black powder rifles and pistols is considered a sport unto itself.
This is an interesting topic. For a while now I couldn't help but wonder if videogames are part of a plot to instill the warfare mindset on us. Too many people focus on the mechanics ("a videogame can't teach you to shoot a gun", "it's not realistic enough to prepare you for it" etc) rather than the mental aspect.
You see commercials for medal of honor and such and think "man, I want to be like those spec ops guys". Dunno, maybe it's just my inner conspiracy theorist talking.
@Otacon237 It's true that a game can only do so much. Nothing beats realworld experience. But a virtual simulator is still better than nothing, especially considering there are some pieces of ordinance the everyday joe just can't get.
@Marena732 Oh, you don't have to like ultraviolence. I just think it can be used for positive goals. For example, most Americans will never get the chance to experience a genuine article VSK-94 or GP-25, so it's good that we can at least experience them in a vicarious context.
@Xerxes1688 I actually agree with Joe Lieberman and Jack Thompson on some issues, but I regard their ideologies as inconsistent. I'm a Zionist like Joe only less confused (if he was truly hardcore, he wouldn't be a Democrat and wouldn't be pro-abortion). And Jack has opposed that oppressive androgenous internationalist whore Janet Reno and that subhuman degenerate pornagraphic Marxist kike Howard Stern.
@IggyHazard My country is mostly rule by left-wing progressists, some of them used to be commies (eg: Our Defence minister, a woman that doensn't what a FN FAL is) on the 70's, the so called left-wing Peronism (Juan Perón was, in fact, a right wing nationalist), and absurd like the hot icecream, but now they don't have the balls to continue their guerrilla. They don't need it since the are on power now. The free vote is the big lie of democracy, not everyone is entitled for a wise voting.
Violent video games have always been one of my favorite ways to blow off steam. As well as deliver justice (all be it: animated) As I think it should be. Such as mortally wounding criminals, or terrorists and leaving them to their just deserved pain and suffering ( in the game soldier of fortune) Or sneaking up, and braining an elite, in Halo. Which I just find very satisfying, for some reason. Its only animated, but damnit! It can feel good! To hell with folks who want ban violent video games!
@GritHawke Soldier of Fortune was one of the most right-wing games ever made!
}:-D
Not the most realistic weapons, but the anatomical battle damage was what made that game so much fun. I loved blowing terrorists' guts out with a shotgun. The Silver Talon pistol could be fired with either hand. I always switched to left-handed. Oh, and in that game, a headshot was a headshot even with the basic pistol (just like ObLost but with battle damage). And the main bad guys were Neo-Nazi terrorists.

My country is full of internationalists and internationalist collaborators, the nationalism has died for the most part.
