  • At 300mpg, it'd cost someone from Akron, OH around $32 to drive to San Diego. This is at $4 per US gallon.

Right now, it costs me as much to drive around for a few days doing nothing because I have no job. I build computer cases & make a few dollars in Boston... If it were this cheap, I could afford to find a city where they're in higher demand and go there. The economy could have used some better treatment, perhaps, but with no cheap mode of travel, no ambition is realizable.

  • Y dont they just make a car that is a boat/plane/car and make it lije 80 mpg and all of the world would b happy i mean comeon peeps

  • yeah shitty car.. i dont understand why practically all hybrids look "futuristic". WHY, cant it be normal?.. this 3 wheeled cars top speed is maybe, what 60?.. its also probably so light that a small thunderstorm will blow this shit away if you're on the highway

  • why would i want an ugly ass car like that??

  • its been 4 years where is it

  • it will never make it to the american streets big oil will pot a stop to it asap

  • @skunkape49 You bet your ass they will. We need to overthrow their asses just like we are starting to do with Wall Street. I am sick and tired of getting bent over and fucked up the ass by those rich pricks!

  • When I first heard of the Aptera I really wanted one,but now days there are more cars coming out pure electric and for 49K the Tesla S 300miles and its much faster looks like the way to go. An Aptera for 15 to 20K as a special kind of car would still be nice, but not as a every day 101 Freeway car. S. Calif.

  • wasn't that my 125cc bike can do that too if I upgrade with solor?

  • Electricity isnt measure in gallons, dumbass.

  • ahhaha, i agree the look is shithouse and gaurantee the price is shithouse and the sound is shithouse, oh shit,.... house ?

  • *cough* It's in Chevron's basement *cough*

  • It won't be allowed untill its too late.

  • this already exists in the chicago science museum.

  • None of these concept cars ever get made anyway.

  • Yeah, the Aptera has been "coming soon" for years and years and years, has been totally reconfigured a couple of times, and they seem to be no closer to mass commercial production. It's probably a concept car sham, and will probably never actually produce a viable product to the public. I'd be wary of investing in this program, financially or emotionally.

  • this is 2007 and it is 2010 where the fuck is it?

  • @galacliva

the company was taken over and the people how made the car were *cough* ..."let go" as they said. the cars been in limbo ever since.

  • HAAAAA Electric cars don't get Miles Per Gallon..., they get miles per use, then you stop. Can you drive 800 miles in one wack, then simply fill up 30-45gallons of Diesel in a few minutes and drive 800 more miles in another wack on the highway... in a electric car? I didn't think so!

  • @celloprof An Apera Hybrid would be able to do that. It will have a gas powered engine to charge the batteries for long trips. As for the electric model, if I bought one of those I would save enough money on gas that I could rent a really nice car, 2 or 3 times a year for a long road trip.

  • @Shakespeare1612 When the calculate the so called 300mpg, they average in the 2, the gas & electric car usage. Of course you will get 300mpg when you drive like 50 miles a day &only 1-2 days actually use that engine. Batteries take a long time to charge up,even the quick charge ones compared to simply filling up the tank of a efficient diesel in a few minutes. You still have to pay the power bill. Then the liberal gov. would just raise the taxes on ev recharge stations just like with fuel tax

  • Comment removed

  • @celloprof Oh and those"nice cars"wont exist then to rent. Most gasoline cars already get bad fuel mpg. The newer the cars, then worse they are, all the potential electrical problems from the endless amount of wiring. People for some strange reason people want to do 70-80+mph on the express way. All cars in general get very bad mpg after 65mph from aerodynamics/wind back-pressure. You cant go against the laws of physics now. You will notice speeders passing you several times over several hours.

  • @celloprof It seems as if you can use the fuel if you actually need to, and what's so hard about charging your car overnight? 8 to 10 hours is more than enough time for a battery to charge for less than 50 miles of driving.

  • @lukemcavoy Check out how much this baby costs, how little horse power & tork it has [id only trust it to transport me and thats because im 140lbs]. I also doubt their as reliable as the good old Japanese cars & im doubting their safe for crashes, im not even going to get into how difficult & expensive it would be to fix its parts. Youd like to run one of these? Theres a reason why almost noone rides one today...

  • that car looks awsome B]]

  • LOL at the fact that this is in 2007 xD

  • so is this thing out yet?

  • @ryanandryanpros why? because its not some square monstrosity that could run over 6 deer at a time? buckminster fuller had pretty much the same design back in 1933 and it would have changed the world if people actually gave it a chance and werent so terribly critical, im not trying to bag on you im just saying people need to let go of silly tradition of expecting a car to be some kind of outlet for machismo

  • Well... it's 2010, So were the hell is it. lmao it's always "oh, it's going to be built" or "oh, it's in production" we've been saying shit like this since the 80's people com'on.

  • @shechshire they been building these for years shell and exxon etc pay millions of dollars for cars like this to not be produced...like a few years back when tylenol paid like 200 million dollars to this company to stop making a pill that was a cure for the common cold

  • Chances of it ever being made: 1 in 1003498987987

Price tag if it is: $1003498987987

  • @RichieEastside To late, Google "Aptera" it's about 28k :/ noob

  • @iJappy it's still ugly :P

  • its.............. the GAY MOBILE

  • its very cool actually but until cities like New York with its DUMB ASS MAYOR fixes the pot holes in the city it wont be able to be driven anywhere

  • looks super gay

  • @8584019155 Your fucking Ford looks super gay. At least this bitch is aerodynamic and more efficient. I'll take this and you can have your lowrider, huge/unused-bed truck, or SUV. We'll see who has the biggest bill at the end of the month, eh?

  • @notessimodude my mustang can kick that hybribs ass!

  • cool but its mega ugly!

  • yea the lunar module , servive mod ageania docking vehicle, skylab were all ugly too. they built them anyway

  • Buy a simple good car and live ur life.......wat the heck is this lol

  • What I wanna know is how many mpgs w/o electric assist?

  • So why not use a clean diesel engine that can recharge the battery much more efficiently... Use the same efficient diesel engine as the VW TDI... that engine gets 58 mpg's I bet it can even do better in the aptera.

  • Know what is funny? I tried getting the 300 mpg model and they denied to all hell that there isn't one in existance and the one I was talking about only gets 100 mpg. America sucks with their cover up bs.

  • The 300 mpg is actually a bit deceiving... it is based on the fact that it is a PHEV and that it will mostly be using electricity for the first 100 miles or so. So the gasoline consumption within that short range equals about 300 mpg. Once your charge runs out you get the 100 mpg.

It's still a whole lot cheaper and cleaner using the electricity than gasoline. Not to mention that the 100 mpg is far better than the prius.

  • Yea, your responding to a really old post, but after I researched this more I realized it was just another oil company scam trying to "show America" that they are "taking steps forward." There are way better alternatives than this car. In fact, importing better electric cars from japan or england would still cost less than buying just a hybrid here. It really is upsetting to me >.>

  • prolly so , however if i get the chance to own one i'll tow a pair of 200 watt panels one bicycle wheels ,with cord.

  • I think the price on this thing is just right. The only thing the Aptera needs now is independent crash tests.

  • is nice but is too over priced , for the money consumers will rather buy a decent standard car or sports car that offers alot more , if i was to buy this car how much could i resell it for? how much would i be loosing...the costs will kill it and will just become a novelty like the rest

  • the price has dropped to $25,000, and thats really not to unreasonable, especiallly that it takes not gas what so ever, within a few years you would have saved probably around $10 grand, bringing it down to about $15,000, plus, you can even drive it in the carpool lane with just one person, you gotta look at the long term benefits

  • Wait, what kind of new sports car can you get for 25K? If it is anything like the Prius there may be people on long waiting lists for a long time to get one; you should be so lucky to have ordered one early on.

  • Traffic and waiting are the 2nd problem of the waste of energy?

  • sign me up on the wait list..

  • *splat* 'Oops, did we just hit something?' 'No honey, just a piece of cardboard.'

Hehe, another vehicle that would guarantee death!

  • nobody came to this link to read ur gay ass comment except it bothered me so much i jus thought i let u kno that u should take ur comedy career and FUCKING KILL IT WITH A KNIFE

  • LOL obviously a southern child....

  • wow what a stereotTYPiCAL fuck im not stupid wat you think i eat chicken and water melon two huh it takes an ignorant person to stereotype sorry my fellow faggot ass lover but its true

  • you speak for yourself ^.^

  • Well learn to write correctly and spell too while you're at it. Please stop this kind of writting skills this is what put us in the dumb list with the rest of the world.

  • I just can't realize why we here in America never implemented this technology quicker when we already knew about it years ago. I remember back in the mid 90s we had researchers and teens at high school science fairs make complete running solar cars and I remember seeing it on tv news back then too. My point is that if the government and its many research societies have or know useful knowledge that can save our planet, why the delay of widespread use or why delay the public release of such?

  • Because there are those who don't believe cars have any effect on the planet so they resist change until it hits them in the face.

  • It's not just about the impact on the planet that makes this stuff important. Less energy = less money. Back when gas was $3.00 / gal I was spending $400 every month getting to and from work. In this car I would have only spent $20.

Based on the facts I don't believe that global warming is man made, but that doesn't mean efficiency isn't something we should strive for.

  • You don't need to believe in global warming, its no longer up for debate, global warming is man made as confirmed by 97% of the scientific community as well as the EPA.

  • Bullshit. Where is the proof? Not opinions, proof. Everything else in science requires proof, but for some reason global warming does not? It is all a scam to get money, in the guise of cap and trade.

  • Really? global temperature dropped by almost a degree and the artic seen the coldest winter in 90 years. You are pulling numbers out of your ass. Since 1998 the earth has actually cooled. Not to mention we are technically in an earth cool spell, and 90% of the last 600million years has been 10 degrees CELSIUS higher than it is today. google temperature last million years, click on first picture under images on the second page for references.

  • more importantly (where is all the fish) they are our life here. keep inmind the med sea is almost dead

  • link?

  • corruption

  • She said "supposably".

  • WANT! I don't care if it does look kind of gay, 300 mpg. It's worth looking a little gay.

  • i PAY 1940s gas prices

by googling "pAY 1940 gas prices Impossible No" and visiting the site in the Video

    Eat your heart out

  • Gay? I think you mean EPIC.

  • I'll suck your DICK for $300.

  • dude that thing has freaking lambo doors, i wouldnt mind paying 30000 dollars for this sex on wheels

  • this is exactly what we needed to show the gas companies whos boss. this is what they get for ripping us off

  • to be honest, they're still in control, if they wanted they could skyrocket it to 100mpg, guess what, you'd still be paying it even in a hybrid vehicle :P

  • no idea why i said 100mpg, i meant 100 dollars per gallon lol

  • Actually, they couldn't do that. It's not like gas companies can just suddenly skyrocket their prices, because there are government regulations in place to prevent that. Even if they could, however, their customers would simply make the leap and buy a bike or something. If no one can afford what you're selling, you won't be making any money.

  • haha, the government

you crack me up. if what you say were true, then why have i been paying 4.40 a gallon for the last three years?

'give me control of a nation's money supply, and i care not who makes it's policy'

  • Because 4.40 a gallon is really not that high. Move to Europe, then you can complain. Also, What is it now? 1.90? Its all demand. It got high, people realized they needed to drive less, less demand, has to go cheaper. Its all a cycle. I bet Obama wants it to get up that high again, just so he can get more support to spend another trillion dollars.

  • You do realize that most people in the government make more money the higher the gas prices are.... Haven't you realized yet that when there's a republican in office everything cost more....damn money hungry bastards.

  • Actually it is available for less than $24,000 for each fully decked out.

It has a 13 gallon tank, and it travels for the first 60 miles of a trip before it actually starts using any fuel. So you can actually drive back and forth to work and not use any gas with this hybrid. Plug it up to a standard outlet and it charges up completely in about four hours for around a buck a recharge.

  • Cool u don't have to fill up on gas for like 28 days of none stop driving XD

  • but the catch is that you can't go more than 40 miles at a "fillup" :)

  • What kind of trunk is that?

BTW, I like the post about the cost of fuel vs. the cost of "up-grading."

  • yea, but who can afford this car, unless your rich. thats the problem in this world everything is all about money, my opion that sucks. Anyway I know I will never get a car like this. Darn rich people. They don't care about the poor at all. Thats rich peoples problem they don't care.

  • They dont care because alot of them worked extremely hard to build there wealth and probably gave up alot, so in there eyes why should they share when you have done nothing, not even close to what they had to go thru, (you as in other people not as in you blade, nothing personal) thats why. and i agree with that 100%

  • OK it 30,000.00 thats not much........

  • rich? shit.. you can hardly FIND a car nowasays under 20k, if you get financed for 30k that isn't too bad.. 300 a month? if it is get a better job.

  • holy shiet!

  • I will be the first Hip Hop artist to own one and drive it proudly! I don't care that its not a Lamborgini or a Ferrari, if I can get 300 miles a gallon and help the planet, I would like to influence the youth of today to think smart and buy one too!

  • Aptera sounds good, but Typ-1 EV will cost around $27,000 and get 120 miles per charge; another model, which will get the much-talked about 300 miles per gallon, will cost $30,000; that is not your "volkswagen" (= people's car), is it? Not much of a money saver, actually. After a lifetime of using a regular $10,000 car, you would not have spent $20,000 on fuel. The price should be lowered a lot for the project to make sense.

  • with the state of the art tech. cant they make i dont know a chevy silverado or a nissan altima that could go 300 miles per gallon wtf y do they look like alien cars

cant they make them look regular

  • Very good point.

  • @stunninhabit81 a big part of it seems to be aerodynamics: the got rid of the open windshield wiper and the mirrors. It all adds up to the drag

  • @stunninhabit81 Probably because a lot of that statistic has to do with the fact that it's aerodynamic and uses 3 wheels instead of 4. Come on, people, use your brain.

  • Yeah right... where the fuck is it?

  • This video review looks much better than the others I've seen so far. The interioir actually looks really good.

  • you people are stupid for complaining about the way the car looks. you overlook the idea that the car runs 300 mpg. umm you could go on vacation in a few weeks instead of a few years if you had this car. BIG MONEY SAVER!!

  • i'd rather have an ugly car that ran clean and efficient, than a a good looking poison pumping gas guzzler.

and its not as if you folks out there arent paying much for gas anyways now is it?!? ha ha ha

  • MPG over looks.........I'll take the MPG and after a while it looks better then it really does

  • why do they have to make them look so stupid, i mean i know it makes it aerodynamic , but cant they make one thats not from back to the future 2!?

  • @RyanAndRyanPros well that's what the future looks like . this is not a concept driven car but a wonder of aerodynamic engineering. form follows function the ideal car will have the best fluid dynamics built around the ideal seating position with crumple zones & a mocular construction that allows components to be replace on a moncoque chassis.

  • @RyanAndRyanPros Sthu retard. Retro is ftw.

  • @RyanAndRyanPros No dude Back to the future is an awsome movie!

  • @RyanAndRyanPros Why did you ask the question if you just said "...i know it makes it aerodynamic..."??

  • omg nice what a good saving of gas!

  • looks like sperm.

  • If the new ultracapacitors that EEStor is developing works, EVs will be WELL on their way to putting ICEs to bed. It is PROJECTED that will provide 10X the power at 1/10th the size/weight of current batteries being used. EVs will be able to break the 400 miles per charge barrier. Zenn Motors has 1st rights, but GM and Lockheed have also signed agreements. Until EEStor actually 'show and tell', it is all projected, BUT promising.

  • Innovation/technology has taken mankind from living in caves to moon visits. The same will provide solutions to living without crude oil. The more we try to get away from nature, the more answers we get that point RIGHT BACK to nature.

Algae continues to prove that it can do the job...provide energy AND food from the same crop. It thrive where no man is willing to live, and where no other crops can grow. Just add water, sun, and CO2. Vertigro is working a concept that is VERY promising.

  • This car, and other EVs will save you PLENTY of money!! No more expensive visits to the gas station, no more oil changes (have you seen the cost of a quart of oil lately!!?), no more spark plugs, fuel filters OR engine air filters. EVs have their own required 'tune ups', but the cost and frequency is no where near that of an ICE. You can jump on board willingly, or go kicking and screams, but you WILL go. Why wait 'til the last minute. Freedom from oil is needed for survival.

  • we all should boycott the gas stations for a couple weeks. i bet it would make a difference. revolution!

  • Can't wait to it comes out, but who in the heck can afford that. $30,000 is a lot of money, and don't the goverment give a crap about the people that don't have money like that, oh yea, forgot goverment don't give a S#$% about the poor. VEry stupid. But the car would be great. But not that much money. D#$% goverment, just another way to make them money for them.

  • $30,000 IS AVERAGE price for a car in the UK...

  • I just read recently that the average cost of a new car in the US is about $32,000, so this car is actually pretty well priced in my opinion. It would be nice to snag one for 10 grand though, eh? :P

  • By converting gallons and electricity to money you goon.

    One gallon = $4

If you can go 30 miles on one gallon of gas that cost you 4 dollars, this car will go 300 miles with 4 dollars of electricity.

They take average gas economy and figure out how much it cost to go that distance on electric alone.

    It's relative to gas.

There is no other way to communicate an electric cars efficiency without converting to mpg.

Would you understand 12 miles per megawatt?

    Most people wouldn't.

  • yes but still how do you measure electricity by gallons??

  • its all electric but its mpg??? how is electricity measured by gallon?????

  • they said that one is all electrics and another one is hybrid

  • Needs to come in other colors but I do want one.

  • that looks like an alien spaceship lol

  • thats called a can-am spyder

  • I just came.

  • HOLY SHIT GODS COMING SOON I KNOW IT! So I have to get this car, this thing makes me scream in excitment just looking at it. George Jetson anyone!?!

  • All cars get over 100 MPG.

When you are going downhill and don't give it any gas, it gets OVER 100 MPG.

I used to have a car with a real time digital gas mileage gauge and that thing would top out at 99MPG every time I coasted down a hill at 40 MPH or more.

Unless the world can take back control of our lives from the ultra rich billionaires, we will never see anything but gasoline cars.

  • You are 32 years old... it is time for you to take responsibility for yourself. The "billionaires" aren't the problem. Everyday Americans taking the decision to buy bloated, overweight, hideously inefficient cars.

It is ALL our fault... people deciding individually to buy SUV's. A 4 ton truck for a 90 lb woman and her child to go to school in? Ridiculous.

It is attitudes JUST LIKE yours thave have gotten us into this situation. Grow up and take responsibility for your own choices.

  • Uh huh, sure - and the Federal Government

had NOTHING to do with it by enacting

a tax deduction for buying a huge SUV.

Pull the other leg, Croaker, and stop

making personal attacks on those with

    whom you disagree.

  • af4k - Did the Fed come to your house and say "you will buy that bloated SUV that gets 8 mpg?" Nope? Then you made an individual decision to do so. Quit your bitching now over gas prices. And I will attack ANYONE who tries to pawn the blame for our current situation on some unknown "they." Most assinine attitude I have ever seen. WE are responsible through our INDIVIDUAL choices. And now we are paying the price.

  • ouch burn. lol

  • looks like a giant sperm

  • Call me super sperm then b/c I could take to the road with this car for a road trip carry a tent hammock and fishing line and literally cross the country for under $100. This should be called the freedom car I have had it as my background on my computer over 2 months now This car needs to be a diesel then we could run it on algae produced biodiesel once they work the bugs out that method. Park it right you could attach a hammock under the car and sleep 2.Jihad no more dependancy on foriegn oil.

  • you have a giant sperm as your desktop wallpaper.... homo!!

  • Ok and I already have a prius got some s**t over that thing too when I first got it but that buck tooth horse f**ker isn't saying anything about my car now We average 52mpg running the AC.

He now has the most expensive lawn ornament in its class dadadadadadunt.

Moral of the story is waste not want not, It's not nice to mess with mother nature CONSERVE FUEL! Fuel is nothing next togo is water we will have a lot less bitching over loss of that they die in a week without water toodles anus.

  • algae farms is the future of biodiesel. zero emissions to make actually takes c02 out of the atmosphere because of natural photosynthesis

  • algae farms is the future of biodiesel. zero emissions to make actually takes c02 out of the atmosphere because of natural photosynthesis.

  • Great too is where they plan to build the farms in the desert where land is cheap and there is plenty of sun heat. PEHV's will insure prosperity for any If I had a large family rather than SUV I would tow a utility trailer to the ball park and vacation and accomplish all my goals saving fuel. Our prius is averaging 50mpg just using common sense driving techniques. Accelerate as gently as possible use the brake softly and a little as possible use ac only when necessary.

  • jaw drops to the ground

  • The Aptera is only one wheel drive, the video stated it wrong. It has three wheels, but only one, the back wheel powers it.

  • the video clearly says "three wheeled" not "three wheel drive"

  • Sounds good But I only pay .06 per gallon of gas --

Don't believe me -- watch my video just search ".06 Per Gallon" it comes up # 1

  • It wont need the usual crash test standards because it's technically a motorcycle. It will only have three wheels, and is light weight. Sense it's enclosed, it bypasses helmet laws, and being three wheeled, it's classed like a motorcycle with a sidecar, meaning that a class C drivers license is enough. You wont need an M1 license here in California. Insurance may be a little cheaper than a car. I don't know about laws in the other 49 states.

  • Feel free to visit the Aptera Forum.

    apteraforumDOTcom

  • Might be, but it will save a lot of money and best of all, the environment will suffer the least with it. Think about it. :-)

  • Typical Youtube hater, he has nothing to contribute. Just favorites guys body building and that stupid animation crap.

  • hetero

  • Not only what enigmaticunravled said, but my other question is, will it last a long time? It may run fine now, but lets drive it for 10 to 15 years + and put 200'000 miles on it. I guess we'll never know until it's been done.

  • and will it not explode when you tap it. or break if you clap to loudly

  • i still have to research how it does in crash tests and how fast it is lol =p... so far it sounds too good to be true

  • What would be the price for it in the US?

  • Same I think I heard it being made in California

  • 30k is what I heard. Can't wait to get mine!

  • 30K is ridiculous for this. It is a great idea,

but that blows the cost savings right out the window.

  • af4k - What's so ridiculous? You can't buy too many cars today for less than that, but don't get discouraged. There's a $10 million X prize competition going on for the car that gets over 100 miles to the gallon, and I'm absolutely certain that many future cars will be on the market soon and that there will be a great car out there for less than $30k.

  • You can't buy too many cars under $30,000.00 ??? Come to my country - U.S.A. We still have many many cars in the $12,000 to $20,000 range. Even luxury cars here begin at about $25,000. I would far prefer an electric car if they could improve them and sell for a sensible price with some REAL cost savings over the gas guzzlers.

  • af4k - I live in the US jerk. Show me the luxury car you can get for $25k. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

  • OOOOOH - that hurt - I guess you told ME!

  • AWESOME! i was on ecogeek and saw this but i didnt think it was real so i had to check it out on utube :P
