We don't even need oil! We have plenty of other energy sources that are clean and efficient! The video wasn't well done but the sentiment is right on. I agree we need to stop *new* drilling projects. The US produces 1% of the oil it consumes. China is continuing to invest in the technology we invented for solar power and are positioning themselves to be the world leader in supplying renewable energy. Do we really want to let China take over yet another sector of the global market and lose job opportunities? Oil is really the way of the past. The US needs to catch up.

*sigh* by stopping the drilling we are hiking up costs on alot of stuff, food for example has to be brought places like grocery marts everywhere (which while we may be able to grow much of it, theres still a need to have some foods brought in for proper nutrtion.) unfortunately by bringing up prices for many things it causes losses, etc. while I agree that the world should go green, you need to come up with a cheap solution before saying stop drilling, or people will die.
So aBP's oil rig explodes and burns; causing the steel supports to fail, pulling the main oil pipe down 5000ft (very accesible apparently as everyone is going on) The pipe then hits the bottom of the ocean casung 3 tears and oil gushes out of each one. Admitedly BP has been a little slow in the clear up but the amount they have to do would be a hell of alot easier if you stopped making videos about how it is their fault and acually help clean up the spill.

@aspenleiter12 No. It is dangerous to work as a clean-up worker. There are serious health issues. The oil and dispersants are toxic and can kill people - not just wildlife. It IS very complicated to clean up an oil spill. There is no way to replace the damaged ecosystem. It takes years of training to do bioremediation which is not always successful.
I believe the operative word is GREED.............the next one that comes to mind is IGNORANCE.........if you don't have a valve that can handle the pressure, then don't drill the hole.........DUH.....................guess who pays the price?? MOTHER EARTH!!

From the moment oil companies loose the control of the world economy, you'll see how it is possible to do things effectively while polluting a lot less than we do now. The only reason we still use fossil fuels, when we've had the knowledge & technology for 50 years to completely switch to renewables, is because that knowledge & technology are suppressed. The big moneyed corporations don't want us to know how easy it would be to get free of fossil fuels & save the planet, and they own the politicians & 90% of the media (100% of Fox). *sigh* by stopping the drilling we are hiking up costs on alot of stuff, food for example has to be brought places like grocery marts everywhere (which while we may be able to grow much of it, theres still a need to have some foods brought in for proper nutrtion.) unfortunately by bringing up prices for many things it causes losses, etc. while I agree that the world should go green, you need to come up with a cheap solution before saying stop drilling, or people will die.

So aBP's oil rig explodes and burns; causing the steel supports to fail, pulling the main oil pipe down 5000ft (very accesible apparently as everyone is going on) The pipe then hits the bottom of the ocean casung 3 tears and oil gushes out of each one. Admitedly BP has been a little slow in the clear up but the amount they have to do would be a hell of alot easier if you stopped making videos about how it is their fault and acually help clean up the spill.

Not that I approve the oil spill in anyway but... THE ENTIRE WORLD ECONOMY RUNS ON OIL! Not just gas but petroleum and plastic products. To stop drilling oil would kill the entire economy. Maybe I'm just being melodramatic but did you notice the U.S. economy slip when gas prices went up even a few cents a gallon?

I'm astounded that there are people in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama who are actually angry about a drilling moratorium. The Gulf can't even take the hit of one major oil disaster. This very localized population is thinking about its own economic interests, but they don't take into account everybody else who has to pay for the consequences of their livelihood.

@aspenleiter12 No. It is dangerous to work as a clean-up worker. There are serious health issues. The oil and dispersants are toxic and can kill people - not just wildlife. It IS very complicated to clean up an oil spill. There is no way to replace the damaged ecosystem. It takes years of training to do bioremediation which is not always successful.

uh, hey. There was a guy on the rig that said a week before the explosion that there was a problem. No one acted. Its not the oil drilling that made this mess, it was a conscious effort not to fix a preventable problem, inherently causing a massive disaster.

I like the idea, but this is the real world.

@kyanwan woah! if that's the test, an energy "fix" will never happen. there's always an excuse to not change our comfortably familiar daily routines, even if they make us sick, waste our money, and inhibit innovation. addressing energy inefficiencies in the economy will do more for a stable recovery than clinging to the delusion that repeating mistakes of the past will solve our problems this time.
