  • Man,you are excellent!!!!....daaaawm!!!!...

  • Excelent.

  • ~ NICE ~ really liked 2:27 to 3:27

  • ...those lepard rides r awsome...

  • why would anybody thumbs down ,28 people cant play shit that's why

  • I love your videos man :)

  • It may be easier but it sounds like shit tbh

  • sehr geil, sehr geil...

  • jojo mayer ¡

  • what ride is that?

  • That's a 21" Sabian Leopard Dry Ride

    -Ich hab wieder was gelernt!

Lange her...Viele Gruesse aus Vancouver, Ydna

  • just a few questions... what snare are you using? are remo or what the parch? and.. what tunning are you using? low, medium, high? i hope you answer me :)

  • Hi, the main is a 14" Brady, the aux is a 10" Mapex Black Panther. They are both tuned fairly high on both sides without choking the sound of the drum (when you tune them too high, it sounds choked). The snare wires are pretty tight but with a tiny bit of play to let the drum sound breathe. I almost always use rimshots, that's part of my sound as well. The Brady is a great snare, it is pretty easy to get a good sound out of it.

    Cheers

  • You are amazing to watch. I don't think I've ever been as intrigued by a drum video. Stunning! Much love from New Orleans!

  • Thanks so much for the nice comment!!

All the best from Canada :-)

  • You should do a lesson on independence with each hand, I have problems doing your grooves because my hands are independent but not THAT independent.. If you get what I'm saying?

  • awesomw, dude!

  • Hey Jungleritter, you sound good! Could you tell me why you choose to hit your ride and hi-hat in that place (ex. 0:35, 3:07) and how it works for you? Thanks.

  • SInce I use both ends of the stick on the same cymbal I have to find a position to make this possible without twisting my wrist too much. These two positions work great for me. They deliver the right balance to produce a fairly even sound when hitting the stick with the tip and then the butt end.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • Do you have triggered bass drum sounds at the end there?

  • I don't trigger sounds but I use some effects after recording the drums like noise gate, compression, eq and quite often a bit of distortion as well. Sometimes some subbass effects as well, means adding some sub frequencies that aren't there, like using a subkick device.

    Cheers

  • hey, i finally found someone that set's their toms up like mine :D

  • What sticks are you using here? Or What general size would you recommend for a nice and even tone?

  • I'm usually using Vic Firths 5b's. I like the 5b's but sometimes I use 5A's as well. It really depends on what kind of music you're playing. As far as an even tone goes I would say that this comes down to practicing, the size of the sticks doesn't matter. The more time you spend on technical exercises the more even your rolls etc. will sound.

    Cheers from Canada

  • ok Ive seen alot of drummers have their first mounted tom larger than there seccond one. I noticed you have it like that, why? What does it help to have it that way?

  • Sorry, my reply took a while...Having the toms setup this way opens some new ways of playing fills. You should give it a try just for fun but I have to say it will also kill some of your "old" fills. I you're into playing classic fast 16ths down the toms it's probably not a good idea, if you're more into trying to come up with creative new stuff try it out, you can always put them back in the "right" order :-)

  • can you do a cover from rise against?

  • Whoa, this is AWESOME.

  • You're from Canada ? Do you speak French then ?

Also, I just saw you love Rage Against the Machine & Tool. Could you do a cover of one of their songs ? I'D LOVE IT !

    Cheers from Belgium ;-)

  • I'm from Germany but I moved to Canada about 5 years ago. I don't speak french, I live on the west coast, hardly anybody speaks french here :-) Yeah, I love those two bands but there are already SO MANY great drum covers of these two here on YouTube, I don't think I could do it better than some of the guys here..Although RATM is tempting hahaha....

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • @Jungleritter Yes, there's so many covers but few of them have a good quality... And you have a GREAT Quality and GREAT skills :D

That's why i'd love to see you cover one of these bands...

  • excelente!

    gracias por compartir tus videos!

  • Gracias :-) Check out "Really Cool Hand Trick For Drummers", you're gonna like it!

  • I love the translations in this video. Great Drumming, Johnny Rabb is biggest influence on D&B drumming, and now you have become one of my influences too.

  • Thank you, that's really nice to hear :-)

  • NUTS!

  • Das ist echt funny :-)

  • Schön das es auch auf Deutsch ist...

  • Thank you for being such a professional. You obvious you love your craft. I've been on this earth for 62 years, and have yet to find something(job-wise) that I love. I wish I had taken drum lessons when I was a kid. I am fascinated/enthralled with this.

  • all good but i hate the sound of your ride, its too bad, sorry

  • u must have like jojo mayer..

Sorry!

  • Hey, vielen Dank :-)) Was meinst du mit beats als playalongs?

  • you're awesome dude i love dnb and bb drumming thanks so much for these awesome tips and techniques !

  • You're very welcome :-))

  • man your way out my league, I wish I could play off beat like you ...this is sick.

  • really amazing !!!!

i got the idéa of this way to play years before , but never arrived to do it perfectly ...:-(

that's a very difficult way to play !!!

and you do that so naturally !

    anyway : THUMBS UP !!!

  • Thanks mate :-) Just keep on practicing it, results will come quicker than you think.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • Is that a Spaun snare?

  • No, it's a Brady

  • The technique that you're using is usually more effective if you hold the stick more towards the center and if you flatten your wrist. It allow for more constant and powerful strokes on both ends. At least that how it works when I play.

  • I liked your video congratulations, also see my videos, type of BANDA TRAMPO DE BOITUVA make a comment ok

  • are you playing Jabon?

  • as I can see you are using only your thumb and index to move the stick, which is slower, you can do faster movements if you don't saparate your other fingers from the stick

  • I know what you mean but the height of the hi-hat almost dictates the use of the thumb and index without fingers. Try it out and I think you will know what I mean.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • Where it is possible to find some play along such this one?

  • You can find my Play-Along CD " Drum&Bass Play-Alongs For the Wicked Drummer" by Ydna Murd on iTunes (Mp3s) or CDBaby (Audio CD).

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • siiiiick

  • why do you use that tehnique? jojo mayer doesnt use it.

  • it sounds like music from porn moovies :P

  • Oh man, im so glad i saw this video, i had been wondering how the hell people play the cymbals so darn fast, i even asked a guy who played break beat drums and he lied to me and said he just taps its really fast. Thanks for showing this vid.

  • You´re very welcome :-))

  • @Rickyfre5h no, i play deathmetal blastbeats a lot lot faster than what he is playing with just singles on one hand. check out "Flying fingers" technique, you should easily be able to do that kind of speeds with one hand with that technique

  • Oh ish, you started talking backwards around :58. Awesome tut!

  • is this Jojo`s grandson?

  • BÄÄM NICE

  • jojo mayer groove oh yeah

  • I tried this technique and the stick flew out of my hand and killed my grandma! wtf man?!

  • so as i understands, you are using both sides of the stick to acheave this effect?

  • Yes, that´s correct! Try it out on a table or the floor...

  • so as i understand, you are using both sides of the stick?

  • Yeah man!... Just tried it, ive always wanted to be able to do fast 16th beats on the hat!.. Thanks

  • so your getting two hits with each stroke out this tech.?

  • Yeah, exactly. It works great. Try it on your drumset or even just on a flat surface like a table, it doesn´t take long to figure it out. Have fun

    Ydna Murd

  • What model is the black snare? Great video.

  • Thanx :-)) That´s a 10" Black Panther by Mapex

  • Have you heard of this guy Jojo Mayer? He's bloody FANTASTIC at drum&bass!

  • Have you heard of this guy Jojo Mayer? He's bloddy FANTASTIC at Drum&Bass.

  • BRILLIANT!

  • Eu gostei. Achei original. Parabéns.

  • its called french grip

  • what a brilliant idea!!! i have never heard of that technique before. :-)

  • Yeah, it works great! I actually came up with the idea a few years ago, only to find out later that some other drummers were using that technique already, hahaha.

    Cheers

  • Jungleritter: Hey, great stuff you ve uploaded here. I really enjoy playing DnB/jungle drumming and this is really very helpful. I ve got "Welcome to the jungle" book by Gerwin Eisenhauer, it s got a lot of good stuff, but I missed more playalongs (there are only 4 there)...where can I get those playalong tracks of yours you talked about? Also what software do you use to compose them? I ve got reason but I m not that good with it...do you know any good tutorials about working with it? Thanks!

  • @00Trademark00 Sorry I posted it twice...my mistake

  • Hi, great to hear you like my videos! My D&B play-alongs are available on iTunes for download and the CD is available at CDBaby. Just type in "Ydna Murd". I use Logic Audio but Reason works great too. You just need to learn how to use it. There are some good and helpful tutorials on YouTube about Reason. And make sure to check out any Forum about Reason you can find, it´s good to listen to the guys already using the program. Good luck, Take care, Ydna

    danke fürs einstellen!!!

  • Those beats are awesome. Did you compose the synth stuff?

  • Thanx :-) Yeah, I did. Check out the play-alongs for drum&bass I just released, it features 9 songs I´ve written. Great for practicing playing electronic music.

    Cheers

  • Are you playing the butt of the stick on the cymbal?

  • Yeah, that´s the idea behind that technique. Try it out, it works great with a little practice.

  • dude,,,can u post a vid,,lyk what marky ramones do in his hi-hat a very xtreme fast 16 beat...pls help,,me...

  • I don´t think Marky was using this technique, he probably played a very fast two handed hi-hat (both hands are playing the hi-hat).

  • @Jungleritter no dude, marky plays it with only one hand try to see his vid on youtube,,and ramones dont use two hands in 16 th beat,,, he was just using just same as ur techniq his techniq is very fast,,,,and its looks lyk his just using his fingers....

  • Send me the link or the song name, ok?

  • THANKS! great technique

  • awesome technique - thx !!!

  • Glad i stumbled across this, such a great technique that sounds farken awesome....cheers mate, you've done a great job...checkin out more of your vids as you read

  • Thanx mate!! :-)

  • Extremely impressive how you are equally good with both hands.

  • Thank you! I´m not really equally with both hands but I´m working on it, my right hand is still my stronger one. I usually practice all drum beats with the left hand leading as well, you should try that too, it really pays off

    Cheers

  • Clean beats bro. I have great respect for this kind of drumming.

  • you rock

  • Magic. very original...very cool...oh,and very difficult!"!!! thanx dude

  • Wow

  • I love this! I could actually listen to that all day! Very awesome! 5****

  • Thanx for your nice comments on my vids! I really appreciate it :-) Cheers

  • @Jungleritter

No problem friend. You are the best D&B techno drummer I've seen! Its cool to see someone use paradiddles. I love doing paradiddles. It goes great with this kind of music. I find your videos very helpful as well.

  • OMG, Check the new great drummer out on youtube.

    Victor thell.

  • haha public enemy sample at 3:25

  • excellent piece of music and technique, I am an amatuer drummer and was not aware of this little bit of technique, thanks for blending it into a song

  • Right... that's it... im getting some drums again... had to sell them to get some cash to move... but after watching that... it's settled!!!

  • cool gemacht

  • Nice! It sounds sooo good.

I have a 14" Black Panther as my main snare. But that 10" sounds so good that I might have to add a second snare to my set up now! Haha

  • Hey! What type of snare is you 8/10" ?

    I'm assuming it's an 8...

    Nice video!

    x

  • Thanx! It´s a 10" Mapex Black Panther...

  • Seriously, this is so inspirational. You have no idea.

    Thank you for this.

  • from 2:55 to 3:18

which is the reason to play on the left side of the hi-hat, more difficult to arrive to the crash than if you play on the right side......I think sound doesen't change....

    thank you ciao

  • I really depends on the setup of your kit. There´s not sound change if you switch sides. The left is simply easier to reach in my case.

  • I really like your set up, what hihats and ride do you have?

  • The ride is a Sabian Leopard 21" Dry Ride and the hats are 13" Zildijan K´s

    Thanx :-)

  • I WAS DOING THAT METHOD!!!! HAHAHAH!!!

i dont even know how to call it...hahahaha!!!!

  • DAMNi just went to the kit for a couple minutes to try it out, works very well, with some more practice i could get it down perfect haha

  • That is actually Good Stuff, it's not Moeller as he used both tip and butt end to strike. Moeller only used tip.

  • Very good videos, not like some shit that somebody load on. Good lessons...

  • That's the Moeller method , is it not .... Good stuff

  • soooomeone doesn't know what moeller is. ;]

  • thanx

  • what module song you use ?

  • What do you mean by "module song" ?

  • That technique is best apreciated on the hi hat.

  • that was dope

  • awsome drumming man

  • what is that drum thats on his left? its like a snare but deeper?

  • It's just a snare with different dimensions and maybe a different material.

  • piccolo

  • cheers :)

  • a piccolo-snare, a snare that is higher tuned

  • Hey man great vids! You got a lot of groove very nice. Hey could you by any chance start putting the bands and songs up you're playing to? Every vid I have watched of you I have really liked the music you're jamming to and would really like to know who it is. Anyway just a thought lol. Anyway keep up the good work.

  • Thanks!!

The music in my videos is composed by myself, except the three playalongs (Chase&Satus/Limewax/Optical, those are clearly labeled). I´m planning of releasing a CD in a few months

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • Awsome, let us know when the CD releases, I will definitely have to get it.

  • good job.....so look my drum solo....is inspired by steve smith.... comment please ; ) bye....P.S= i use muffle for my kit drum ;)

  • Damn nice first beat, really tight! ;) Bud... uuh... You start talking english? And... continued deutch? oh... Youre translating? Right? Well anyway... Great vid.

  • Thanx :-) I was just translating what I said in english, you didn´t miss any content...

  • that sounds similar to what jojo mayer plays in his video......hmmmmm

  • Amazing man!

  • Ydna, what is your cymbal setup? I really like those hats. They should like they have a big dynamic range.

  • Hey ! Just wanted to know what the song is, the exercise is good too.

  • Thanks! The song in this video is one of my songs. I´m in the midst of working on a new CD, this song might be on it, too.

    Cheers

    Ydna

  • lol, i watched this video a while ago, ans i was like how does he do that? now i realize you hit your cymbal or hat with 2 sides of the stick
