Everyone learns this shit, along with every state capital, and which states made up the original 13 colonies etc... then forgets it a few years later. Nobody with a job outside of education remembers stuff like this, its useless information that you never use.
Actually, she missed Woodrow Wilson at about the point she stumbles over the names. But to name them in order of election is still a great achievement, especially at her age. It's not "useless" to know your country's history & leaders. It's a great way to practice your memory and improve memorization techniques. I also used this same list as a challenge for my young son to learn the importance of working toward a goal. He learned all of the presidents in order of election to "earn" a Game Cube.
well sure useless..but having that knowledge to learn/ memorize will help her in the future in any subject..and im sure she'll be great in history or global..and wont have difficulty to learn etc...
wow she will fail at life, she can memorise everything but guess what, she'll never understand ANYTHING with this useless technique. I'd rather understand one thing than remember everything.
Exactly. Any child can learn the presidents if they practiced reciting them over and over. She could have spent her time more wisely by reading a book, or learning multiplication and division.
lol it wasnt that impressive, probly not the best way to advertise the schools teaching abilities, not sayin i can do it, just they should of picked a kid who can do it faster and speaks clearly...
Memorization isn't the best way to learn because most of it is useless.. you have to apply yourself to whatever your learning or else its just useless like a list of names... you need learning skills in order to understand information
She forgot Wilson!!!!!! She went from straight fromTaft to Harding!!! Wilson led the United States through WWI and suggested the formation of the League of Nations, which inspired the formation of the UN, so he's important!!! It's too bad she probably doesn't know anything about what the presidents did and only their names...well, most of them.
are the ones who run that show completly retarded? what is the impressive part of that? a 6-year old could do that. You give him the list of the 40 presidents and you tell him to learn them and say it as fast as he can. before the day ends, he can say all of them quicker than this.
of course most people can't do what that kid did. Because they didn't want to!!
I learned it (did the same training) and the deal is not so much knowing the order and names of presidents, but learning how to use visualization to help you remember stuff...I can tell you that it helps me when I need to remember a list of stuff or even just one thing--I'll visualize the intersection that I will drive by on my way home (traffic light: yellow light=flower) and when I get there, I'll remember to buy my wife flowers! Works for me.
well it's not likely you'll find a kid that age who can do it, but it's not real intelligence. When studying for a test it can work miracles but it doesn't mean you UNDERSTAND the information at all. I could memorize a thousand different words out of the dictionary along with their definitions, but it wouldn't mean anything if I could not apply the knowledge.
The only positive I see in this technic is the visualisation. It sparks the imagination. But the information is useless unless it has a practical application. I l"memorized" all the multiplication tables in 3rd great. Still rmember it. Ok its math, but so what? Today, especially, we live in a world where quantification, not qualification rules.
Hey, I was able to do it at age 5. Plus I knew all the states and capitals. The best part is that I STILL know them some 25 years later. Anybody can "memorize" something, but take the extra time and actually learn about them. I'm personally not impressed with this memorization method.
bobthegoo: Thats not hard at all. when i was like 5 or 6 i knew all the presidents, all the state capitals, and most of the world capitals. This isnt impressive. This would be true if they actually taught students today. Most do not receive this kind of help. The women is old school and for new age kids this is something new.
