If you cut the shooters notch out of the panel before putting on the legs you will have the materials for the 2- 4"X5" pieces needed to attach the legs. This eliminates the need for scrap 3/4 plywood to make them from.
@Clemdogsan, thanks for uploading this -- great idea, economical and easy to build. I was about to start building a shooting bench out of all 2-inch lumber -- folding legs out of crossed 2x4s on hinges. You're idea is easier and quicker to build and probably no more expensive, if not less expensive. Certainly it is "handier", lighter weight, and easier to transport. That's using the ol' noggin!
Big Joe, great ideas. Sounds pretty stable. I use a velcro rope/line keeper attached to the underside of the table to keep the legs from flopping around during transport & carry.
Hey Clem, nice table, I got something very simmiliar, I used banquet table legs that i found in the garbage, and 1 1/8" form plywood. Its a little heavy, so I put folding casters that I made up of some old hinges that found. When I set the table up, I simply fold the hinges under the table. Also I bought some heavy duty Velcro at a Jo-anns fabric store, and attached to the underside of the table . When i'm carrying the table, I just velcro the legs together so as they don't open up on me.
Great idea and video. I grew tired of shooting off the top of my vehicle too sight in my guns so I built one of these. The suggested legs are kind of pricey so I used a folding metal sawhorse from Sears for $29. I also made my ambidextrious since I am a lefty an often shoot with righties. Nice solid table and works great with my lead sled.
you put your stiffener going the wrong direction to the stress your going to be putting on the table. Put a 2 x 3 on edge or a piece of right angle aluminum running front to back, that will help keep your table from sagging over time. The legs you found are a great idea. Now you got me wanting to make something like this. Happy shooting
@alderaforall Great idea! Thanks for the input. I think also its important to get a really nice grade, thick sheet of plywood, and seal it with paint or varnish to minimize the chances of warping.
You know there are some real dumb people out there, when they make commetts like I just shoot off the ground.I have been deer hunting for years and never shot one from lying on the ground. Most of the time trees and vegatation are in the way. This is how everyone I know sites in there rifle,so great job on the shooting table.
You saved me well over $150 with your video. I have sturdy banquette table legs and all other on-hand. I may shim the front table leg with two 1/2" glued and screwed plywood strips so as not to add unnecessary 5/8" added rise. Also suggest the handle cut be made last. Use a C'clamp to determine the exact balance point then cut slot 1/2 either side. A top rim lip using thin wood (~1/4") or other (plastic) attached to outer edges, except shooters notch, to keep casings, other from rolling off?
4 legs are no good. Difficult to get set solid in anything but the most perfect terrain. A 3 leg bench is by far the most stable and easiest to level.
@Clarkmissy101 "Mabe this dipshit could say UH!!!! somemore" All i can say is record yourself sometime talking about something and you would be surprised what you sound like. I did a video where i spoke about something for a while and was surprised how many times i said "um" most people do this or some other phrase when on video. Stop judging people like that it has a way of coming back to haunt you.
very good video, thanks! and don't listen to the morons comments about shooting on the ground... if they had already decided to shoot on the ground they shouldn't have clicked on the video...
thanks made two of them sealed the wood and love them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pretty solid table and if you plan on shooting it always takes time to set up built mine for 40$ with the sealer thanks fun to build!!
@Clemdogsan I made mine by cutting the pant legs off a pair of old camo military pants, filled with rice (can use all kinds of things..bird seed, small beans etc) sewed up ends. I also decided to salvage a piece of black strap off an old bag and sewed that from one bag to the other just to keep them together and make for easier carrying. I then cut out the foam in the shape of the bags from my rifle case so it closed nice. System works great and the cost was 0.00 as all the stuff was salvage.

BigMoch, use the thickest plywood you can find. I think I used 3/4" birch veneer plywood from Home Depot.

Trying to figure out the thickness of your bench..
BigMoch 6 months ago
@BigMoch It is all set up for 3/4" plywood, thats why the 10x1 1/4 screws don't pop thru when attaching the 4"X5" pads for the legs.

Amaroq69,
I rarely notice the slight angle of the table, as it is most often on uneven ground, and I shoot over a Hughes Ballistic Shooting bag.
