  • So the GN heats the tires and then when it's time to race he doesn't even really spool up the turbo before the launch.(He does a little) I'm not saying that the Evo isn't fast, but I am saying it's not a badass car. It's a chick car totally, do you know why? because if a girl call your car cute..uhh. Plus! That is probably the most annoying sound when they take off. I better only see chicks n asians (both would crash muscle, sad but true) driving that car, I would just shake my head otherwise.

    Im not a fan of the evo's, I used to own one..They are alright but have limited potential...But you see more sub 10second evo's running original blocks than you do gn's.

  • I think a Grand National Mod for Mod or dollars spent on the mods, takes the EVO. See my other posts. I raced a stock Typhoon and it wasn't even close. Of course my GN is modded and I've said it a million times before, anyone can have a fast or fastest car if they have the cash. Doesn't matter what it is. People need to stop being such dumb shits when it comes to these cars GN, supra, evo, most don't come from the factory at the level of performance we see on youtube.

  • Thank you! Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't give a shit about this domestic vs import business. I just don't the like the ignorance that is displayed when it comes to these cars. Just like imports are hated, the GN is one of the most hated cars by both domestic and import owners a like. I do not understand why. They are certainly not POS and for their day they were bad ass. Not a whole lot domestic or import was touching these cars in 86/87.

To answer your question, fastest GN 6 in the world belongs to Len Freeman - 6.96. Bill Andersen 7.25. Of course these are not street legal rides. I know of a Turbo Buick here in MI that is 7.87 and is street legal, its owned by white racing.

  • RicoSuave's input not withstanding, I like EVOs, Supras & I own an 86 GN. My buddy had an EVO that ran an 11.3, dyno @700hp @ a cost of 8 or 9k though. I was able 2 get my GN n the 11s with following combo & cost. adjustable wastegate $70 Walbro 340 fuel pump $200 Razor Alky Injection $450 Turbo Tweak Alky Chip $100 MT Drag Radials - $300 injectors $249 23lbs of boost stock turbo & intercooler Result 11.92 @ 114mph Not bad 4 a 23 year old car & in 86/87 there was nothing touching these cars.

  • I'll double check. Because he used to own his own garage. I was talking to him about getting my GN into the 10s and this is what he told me. The lives in Brazil now, but when he was in the states he lived in New Jersey. I'll let you know if I misquoted him. I certainly don't want to give the impression that I'm making shit up.

  • I've raced 2 Evos with my 11 sec GN and smoked them both. Wasn't looking to run the 2nd one but the driver was pretty cocky and said he smoked a dozen or so GN's so we raced and I beat him by about 4 car lengths. They're nice cars, but some of the drivers are pretty cocky.

  • no replacement for displacement, i agree only for top fuel dragster level, funny cars and rail cars but other than that, there are 2.0 turbo 4 cylinders going high 7s low 8s. john shepard used to drive his car to the track when it was a mid 8sec car. there are 4 cylinder NA hondas going low 9s. over all 4cylinder cars are a lot more efficent and make more power per liter and per cylinder.

  • It has "high horsepower per liter" is like saying "Gary Coleman is tall for a midget." They're still tiny engines and still produce overall unimpressive horsepower figures.

    The only reason they're even competitve with larger displacement cars is the presence of AWD...and that only helps off the line. It becomes a crutch further down the strip, due to the parasitic power loss of an AWD system.

    That 4000 horsepower Acura dragster, last I checked runs nitromethane, IE, it's a top fuel dragster. Top fuel V8s produce over 9000 horsepower.

    The Lingenfelter Corvette produces 1100 horsepower on the chassic dyno (that's not even corrected to the higher SAE crank rating) on 93 octane gas. Practically any modern hot rod magazine will have a feature on some 1000+ horsepower V8 street car, usually turbocharged.

    If you still doubt me, google "Red Victor."

  • yea the 4g63 produces around 280 on tq.,stock the buick lc2 cranks around 380 stock. Plus the evo has a manual trans and launch control, think about how long those diffrentials and joints are going to be dependable for, i still have to say the evo is nice but i would rather have an american muscle any day....
