Of all the versions of Permafrost I've heard, including live performances watching Magazine play this song, this has to be the THE DEFINITIVE VERSION. I agree with the other appreciative comments - the whole song is URGENT and full of menace! And yes, the wild guitar solo is even better that on Secondhand Daylight. Marvellous. I recently saw Magazine live in Glasgow (minus Barry Adamson) with Noko on guitar. They really were great, but this line-up was THE ONE my friends!!
Wow. Could it be? McGeoch's solo here is even more ferocious than on the studio recording! Fantastic. More folks should learn about this under-rated band and their amazing guitarist.
Just heard this for the1st time...wasexcited almost to the point of issue. Was moved so much by the guitar playing that I investigated further only to find that the same man is responsible for some of my favourite guitar playing ever.........on Siouxsie and the Banshees' Happy House and Spellbound.......John McGeoch. Shivers down the spine stuff !!

the guitar solo on this version is more intense, angry and twisted than on the album version.....it's better! The hairs on my neck stand up.
