@lulzlaby i think people who believe in god are fucking stupid. guess what i think of people who believe in satan... anyway, i also think u are a little troll-mrad :P
i think this is a step up from the kyus version, however, no one besides josh homme could write such a song, complex with a feel of simplicity, and i feel tool upgraded it by adding in their style
true and if they do believe they worship satan its more of a fashionable choice like those danm emo kids, true followers do not make a point in proclamation they just live the path
I don't think they worship satan. Especially not to be fashionable. The word "fashionable" does not and will never apply to Maynard. He detests such things.
Oh my god, I'm soo stooned and this song somehow relaxes my brain, I can feel waves passing through my head, don't have this with any other songs, something unique in this song.

HAHAHHHAA.. Is satan theonly way ?? HAHHAHAHAAAAAAA SNAP OUT OF IT ! SATAN IS THE EASY WAY.. if tool were to say that they would havebeen wasted and in graves right now... satan is the only EASY way out babe... if you wanna die why dont you do it today ?
I, the serpent answers, am Satan who was stoned; I am the Adversary- the Lord who is against you, the one who pleads for your destruction before the Eternal Tribunal. I was your enemy upon the day you were formed; I have led you into temptation; I have delivered you into the hands of evil; I have maligned you; I have striven ever to achieve your undoing. I am the guardian of the Tree of Knowledge and I have sworn that none whom I can lead astray shall partake of its fruits.
Adam replies: For uncounted ages have I been thy servant. In my ignorance I listened to thy words and they led me into paths of sorrow. Thou hast placed in my mind dreams of power, and when I struggled to realize those dreams they brought me naught but pain. Thou hast sowed in me the seeds of desire, and when I lusted after the things of the flesh agony was my only recompense.
Thou hast sent me false prophets and false reasoning, and when I strove to grasp the magnitude of Truth I found thy laws were false and only dismay rewarded my strivings. I am done with thee forever, o artful spirit! I have tired of thy world of Illusions. No longer will I labor in they vineyards of iniquity. Get thee behind me, tempter, and the host of thy temptations. There is no happiness, no peace, no good, no future in the doctrines of selfishness, hate, and passion preached by thee.
All these things do I cast aside. Renounced is thy rule forever! And the serpent makes answer: Behold, O Adam, the nature of thy Adversary! The serpent disappears in a blinding sunburst of radiance and in its place stands an angel resplendent in shining, golden garments with great scarlet wings that spread from one corner of the heavens to the other. Dismayed and awestruck, the Adam falls before the divine creature.
Last Part I am the Lord who is against thee and thus accomplishes thy salvation, continues the voice. Thou hast hated me, but through the ages yet to be thou shalt bless me, for I have led thee out of the Sphere of the Demiurges; I have turned thee against the illusion of worldliness; I have weaned thee of desire, I have awakened in thy soul the immortality of which I myself partake. Follow me, O Adam, for I am The Way, The Life, and The Truth!

Great rendition, although the thumping bass takes away a little of the vulnerability of the track which always made it a standout amongst the Welcome Top Sky Valley tracks.
man its as if this song was written for tool. i love kyuss but man tool just work on this tune the drums and the guitar suit them so much. i love adam jones' tone on this too. i wanna hear a studio cover of this with more aggression on the vocals.
Everyone hear that tool will be in the next Guitar Hero game. That's gonna have to hold me over until the next album! I wish I'd got something special like this at a concert. The best thing I got was FLOOD..
Maynard doesn't sing as well live now as he used to. My first show was in 98 and that was unreal compared to how he sings now. Lateralus was the best tour in my eyes.
The song on my computer is pretty loud when it comes to bass, but since youtube has the worst sound processing I've seen in a while you can't really get the bass notes or the clarity or any instrument.
I think if you googled it you might be able to find something. Or you could try finding a tab site online and posting a request for it on forums if they have them. Hope this helps ya dude
cyberhore I've got serious doubts about that. I'd think you're perception was wrong first. The heart wants what it wants. And as Maynard said in "sober" I want what I want

KYUSS was about 4 punk ass teenagers getting really drunk and eating a whole shitload of shrooms and by some miracle of nature writing 3 of the greatest Rock Epics of all time. KYUSS was organic, it was born from nature and crazy, wild youth. It was the stuff of pure Rock N' Roll Legend, and you had to be there to fully understand & appreciate what these kids were doing. It was seriously like Sabbath all over again for those who were there.
Seriously man, it was all about that innocence of being a teenager.
Those 4 kids felt like superheroes that they were able to create these massive superhuman sounds. The generator parties were sacred times, man. Especially the ones with Brant.
Brant & Josh wrote 'Sky Valley' when they were 18 years old.
Every member of that band should be inducted into the Rock N' Roll hall of fame, but it'll never happen.
So should the Melvins, FUDGE TUNNEL, WiNO, but they never will be.
nicely put, treez...i can only imagine what that feeling musta been like (but then again-- with talent like theirs, they probably thought it was no big deal cause it just comes naturally). as far as the hall of fame goes, well, that's the reason why those and many other bands are better--because they DON'T get in.
I actually have no idea how I WASN'T into Kyuss back when they were around. I was into most of the early 90s "grunge" bands before anyone else around me, their sound reminds me a lot of early Soundgarden, and I know I would've loved them. I knew they existed, but for some reason I never listened to them. I think it's because they were always lumped in with the heavier metal bands on Headbanger's Ball, and I wasn't into that at the time. Now I wish I hadn't missed out.
ironic, because Josh & Brant weren't influenced by anything outside of early hardcore punk and local "Desert Rock" pioneers Across The River, which basically means they pulled that sound out of their ass at age 16. One of the great miracles in American Rock History.
yeah but josh's mentor was Chris Goss singer\quitarist of masters of reality. and so he listenned his records and they played together so they were not all alone. still one of the best bands of all times
i don't really consider KUYSS to be in the same "lump" with those "headbangers"...most of them imo are like cheezy dog acts who squeeze every last tidbit out until they are finally brought down to having their music in car advertisements or the like ...KYUSS is def apart from the others--quality over quantity dude.
Kyuss & Tool are both great for what they are, no point in comparing the 2 when they're so different. That said, this cover *almost* sounds like it coulda come straight from a Tool CD, that's how good they infuse their sound into anything they cover.
I agree with the showing of cooler attitude. The Tool is more of an epic creation. But I don't think Tool wants mainstream. I like the smaller crowds myself
hmm its interesting, maynard always disses music that isnt complex emotionally and deep but kyuss are just pretty standard rock, dont really go down many creative avenues. i do love kyuss though coz i dont think all music needs to be deep like tool see it. i mean come on, u cant play tool to have fun or at BBQ in summer for example. i love both bands before u comment. i just think music can also be made for having fun and rocking and grooving and getting down like kyuss. tool for deep thought
Kyuss music is definitely emotional complex. It's not intellectual complex at all, but you can tell they love what they are doing and are great at doing it. Kyuss' music creates many emotions. It's beautifully atomspheric.

Chris Goss is a member of KYUSS as well, that's implied.

i don't really consider KUYSS to be in the same "lump" with those "headbangers"...most of them imo are like cheezy dog acts who squeeze every last tidbit out until they are finally brought down to having their music in car advertisements or the like ...KYUSS is def apart from the others--quality over quantity dude.

Kyuss & Tool are both great for what they are, no point in comparing the 2 when they're so different. That said, this cover *almost* sounds like it coulda come straight from a Tool CD, that's how good they infuse their sound into anything they cover.

who gives a fuck, if you like the sound of a song thats enough, no need to question why or who sung it, who gives a shit.

This is how I think of it:
Kyuss = an untouchable kind of cool.
Tool = a different untouchable type of cool
Comparing two bands of different but equal coolness and rating them = an untouchable kind of stupid.

Nicely put.

hmmm , I think kyuss is cooler, cause Tool is much more into mainstream. Kyuss showed cooler attitude as a rock band.

I love Tool, but Maynard is arrogant prick. With that said, he is quite genious.
lateralus1337 3 years ago 3
Kyuss music is definitely emotional complex. It's not intellectual complex at all, but you can tell they love what they are doing and are great at doing it. Kyuss' music creates many emotions. It's beautifully atomspheric.

id like kyuss's version more if it was sung by garcia
