this is a really good song but it makes me think that nick holmes uses a lot of studio effects...since he can growl in studio but it seems he can't when performing live....it even sounds he's pushing it too much in studio....great song though
@calastiur I agree he seems to be really struggling in what I've seen of him performing live. But by the same token I couldn't possibly imagine PL without him, it'd feel like a totally different band.
@chromeblack that's true, his voice really defines Paradise Lost. Still a shame the studio versions of ''As Horizons End'', ''First Light'', ''The Rise of Denial'' and some more sound way better than live, vocally atleast.
Too bad I could never see Paradise Lost in their prime. The band's fine today, but Nick Holmes can't perform what he's done in the studio, or won't even try to put some effort into his works. A shame.
I wish I could have seen Paradise Lost back in the early 90's, because let's face it; no matter how much you still like them, (their new album kicks ass though) Nick Holmes struggles a lot these years when it comes to both clean and harsh vocals. It's just painful to hear. Too bad I'm born in 1993 >.>
@YohVsNarutoIsBack I strongly disagree, Paradise Lost is perhaps only band that I liked before and after style change. Not all change is bad, most bands that don't change usually fall apart sooner or later. You can't skin the same goat over and over again. The music phase you are in will pass, you'll become too saturated and want new music styles and then you'll find their new songs perfect, different but still familiar. I know it happened to me and I shared your current thoughts back then.
@IBezimeniI I like changes...but not like this...I like changes like septic flesh , or moonspell ,anathema and my dying bride...PL lost their originallity (sorry for my english) ...old school PL fans know for what I m talking about....
@YohVsNarutoIsBack I don't they lost their creativity in fact Gothic was the only song is was really into from their first period and I can name many bands that sound like early PL while I can't think of another band that sounds like their synth-pop era which gave their best songs imo (like One second, Mouth etc). they sound very different and I didn't believe that they were the same band when I heard the newer stuff so it's logical they lost part of their fan base who like the heavier sound.
@YohVsNarutoIsBack I can agree however that since "Symbol of life" they aren't exactly what they have been and except few songs like Erased especially on recent albums they do sound a bit non-descript and generic to me. Well but all this is just a matter of taste. I can however understand that as a band they get bored of one type of music and move on, and still think that their first change was even though a radical one essentially good,
I don't know why....but this video makes me feel like no other by any other band. Maybe it's watching a band with full power, playing new, exciting music in front of a dedicated and devoted crowd. It looks very vital, even joyful....to top it all, Gothic is the most epic sounding PL song
I appreciate Macintosh as a guitarist because he doesn't give a fuck about "666 notes in a second" style of play, and instead creates atmosphere with his unique slow melodies.
I prefer this kind of performance than the seudo operatic shows that some bands put out this days.
This is real Heavy Metal not a bunch of guys fooling themselves thinking that because they have and orchestra and some female singers they are playing classical music.
why am i an ass hole? i just asked where is she, i dont see her in the video. calm down psycho i like the band and i like her voice. i guess some people just come here to talk shit to people?
Uh yeah it is, that big banner behind them says what? Paradise Lost, notice the left-handed guitarist Gregor Mackintosh or the long haired Nick Holmes? Yeah that's them dude.
I don't mind Nick not growling anymore but it's too bad that he can't scream with his voice anymore like in this version. One of Paradise lost's best songs for sure, though.
@diosusina THOSE WHO DOES NOT EVOLVE WITH THE BANDS THEY LISTEN TO HAS NEVER BEEN A FAN.................IF U HAS HOT LISTENED TO ALL OF THEIR ALBUMSUNTIL THE LATEST CANOOT MAKE OPINIONS LIKE THIS ONE U WROTE

The problem with the modern Paradise Lost is that Nick's holding them back. He can't perform what he's done in the studio, (even of recent years)
