I wouldn't say skrillex inspired, I'd say popularized. Skrillex left this genre a long time ago. If you're looking for inspirational dubstep direct your attention Doctor P, Bassnectar, Flux Pavillion, Skream, Excision and artists who stuck by their genre. Hating on skrillex isn't being "hipster" its respecting a genre for what it is, dirty basslines.

Bassnectar, Doctor P, and Excision have all produced numerous different genres of music (DnB, Drumstep, Glitch Hop, Electro, etc) so what you're saying is kinda stupid. Producing different types of music is a great way to broaden your horizons and learn different types of techniques and more and more producers are starting to do it.

Listening to skrillex I don't know wtf genre I am listening to unless it has been made into dubstep by bare noize or someone. All skrillex songs of late sound the same, him broadening his horizons died when he released scary monsters and nice sprites and got big.

@vilfx To be honest, nothing come out right now sounds like Dubstep. Go back and listen to Distance, TRG, Kode9, DMZ, and Burial and you'll notice a HUGE difference. Dubstep was all about the sub bass, drums, and atmospheric synths. Now it's all about who can make the most filthy distorted bassline and put it over the same fucking simple half step beat. Nobody is original nowadays.

@TheUmbrellaChild It's basically what dubstep has been for that past few years. Heavy distorted basslines and no rhythmic groove whatsoever. Compare any shitty track by Skrillex to, lets say, TRG - Missed Calls and you'll realize what brostep is.

(like myself, kinda) I've yet to hear a dubstep track from that was produced in the last few years time window, that didn't have rythym and was produced by a reputable artist. "Brostep" seems to be labeled to songs that fit the stereotype for dubstep. I'm not going to even comment on Skrillex, the amount of hate he get's is dumb.

If I'm correct however, which I am on this one. Kode9 said himself all that really matters is good subbass, as for everything else on top, anything goes. I think the self-prestigous fans created the label "brostep" to divide the oldschool sound from the new. I have yet to see anyone that makes dubstep these days call their own work "brostep". So it just looks like some attitude-driven label to me.

Brostep doesn't really have good sub bass seen as it focuses on the mid range and highs. I wish more artists would start trying to take dubstep back to its roots.

While listening to it i noticed there was barely subbass and it felt as if it was weak. I consider that generic, a beat with wobbles and screeches layed over the top. At this point i just think the "brostep" thing is a bit too streched out. If the songs here are supposed to be brostep, I'm going to disagree, subbass is great. rythym is tech.
