@themontypythonmuseum Many collectors like myself will have it on tape, it's quite likely somebody has ripped it off their tape and uploaded or even stolen an mp4 off YouTube.
Excellent! Sutherland's Law was a favourite of mine. Esp the episode where they go climbing Agags Groove on Buachaille Etive Mor. In this particular clip, is that the Corryvreckan whirlpool at the start? tragic that material like this is lost now. Thanks again for posting!
It may not be missing any longer, depends if the person who owned the original tape passed it on or not. This came from the end of a 4hr VHS tape of stuff that was recorded by some wealthy person on 405 line open reel video tape in the 60s, including the end of a Rolf Harris programme that isn't in the archive. I know all that 405 line stuff is safely with the right people, so maybe the colour stuff is also with them.
Aidan, this compilation of clips has been copied from VHS to VHS many times since being transferred from it's original format (which could be Philips, Umatic or anything of that period). Have a look at the bottom of the picture, there are multiple tell-tale signs of VHS ;)
Could only be on Umatic.

Great clip! Is this the oldest piece of continuity sourced from the public?

No, there is quite a bit from the 60s on the same tape as this, as I said earlier ;)

VHS? VHS wasn't even launched until 1976. More likely Philips N1500 tapes.

Excellent! The episode of Sutherland's law in this clip is missing from the BBC's archives.
