If you're trying to teach him drums, you shouldn't do it like that. Start off with things that is more approachable for him, you are playing intermediate beats to him. And you can tell he wants to learn, as when you hit something, he tries to hit it too! Which is a great start, just start with learning him easy beats, really easy.
