  • Long live the boss and the E Street Band!!

    RIP Clarence and Danny

  • R.I.P. Clarence, you will be missed. No one played the sax like you did. You're a FREEBIRD now.

  • RIP Big Man.

  • Ciao Clarence, riposa in pace!

  • Music about hard workin, fast cars and pretty girls! Who else sings about Chevelle with Fuelie heads?

  • @wjanisheck The workin man's hero, he is. The King of Blue Coller music.

  • RIP Big Man

  • Danny & Clarence R.i.P.

  • Clarence is gone, but will always live on in his music.

  • Rest Easy Big Man

  • Big Man is dead too soon, too soon. My rock n roll heart is broken. RIP C.C.

  • The big man rawks....... will miss him <3

  • This may be the single greatest rock song of all time. It's got the energy that sounds like it's about to go off the rails...The lyric embodies all the pent up & romantic emotions of restless youth. Bruces shouting /crooning vocal is perfect... and Clemons sax is like dynamite. I put it right up next to Satisfaction by the Stones.

  • R.I.P. Clarence "Big Man" Clemons

  • <3 Clarence

  • clarence, you're missed man.

  • This is what Rock N Roll is all about! The music, high energy and coolness that we all fell in love with! The Boss!

  • Awesome. '78 tour - pure raw energy. Top of their game and only got better and better and....

  • It just never, ever gets old

  • Is it possible to buy this entire concert on DVD?

  • Saw him in the early 80's. He's a dream. Energy packed show. One of the great live performers. !!

  • Awesome! I never knew! 1978?! WOW..luv him!

  • like a boss

  • i feel like without the sax this might sound like the clash or something

  • Clarence....freakin' BAD ASS....enough said!

  • ageless, rips

  • i miss the 1970s

  • raw but most excellent - passionate, poignant lyrics and performance...

  • @njiuma I'd say raw AND most excellent. Raw is awesome. Raw is rock and roll. This over production crap today is (for the most part) for wusses.

  • @deadheadtrea - "I'd say raw AND most excellent. Raw is awesome. Raw is rock and roll." What I meant was that the Audio feed sounds like a board mix. The Saxaphone is louder than any other instrument, almost enveloping the vocal as well. Thus the recording is raw, but the performance is excellent, discernible even with a raw, dry mix. There's a lot of heart in the performance here... I agree that raw, impassioned performances are indeed Rock-n-Roll!

  • Born to Run, Hungry Heart, The River, Thunder Road, to name a few. Pure passion, that's why he's THE BOSS!

  • Strong lyrics, amazing images. THUNDERING rock and roll.

  • How is it possible for a song that is a rock classic to sound so amazing on vinyl and so crappy live??!! He doesn't have enough stamina to finish the lyric at the end of a line in the song. Vocals are absolutely awful and the fist pumping while he is singing (if he wants to call it that ...uh, ok??!!) and NOT playing guitar is lame. Even with the mic you can barely understand what he is saying. If someone had me listen to this blindfolded I would have said it was some crap garage jam cover band.

  • @LuvsUlf5 you dont know waht your talking about

  • @ctuna10blaze: Actually, it is commonly referred to as a difference of opinion. I have heard Springsteen fans pontificating for decades about how "it will change your life" seeing Bruce live; waxing poetic for 20 minutes about said experience. I knew it wouldn't change mine; not wanting to hurt their feelings I always begged off the extra concert ticket they offered me on many occasions. The day after I watched a dozen live Bruce videos here, I phoned them to inquire about their mental health.

  • @LuvsUlf5 It's a difference of opinion, yet, you're not giving him the light of day. Is it fun being a hypocrite?

  • @RockRampage74 : Your comment to my reply does not make sense nor is it an existing expression in the English language. The expression "in the light of day" has a completely different meaning than however it is that you intended to use it. Your "question" (if you can call it that) "is so ridiculously juvenile that responding to it would be as stupid as you typing it. Wow, you Brucie fans have a thin skin...I don'

t like his sound on these live youtube videos. So fu*king what??!!

  • @LuvsUlf5 Overreact much? "The light of day" specifically means give the other man a chance to speak his mind, but, instead, you shot him down before he had that chance. Pretty common knowledge.

  • @RockRampage74 You couldn't be more incorrect in your "definition" of the meaning of the expression "in the light of day". Here's a tip for you: ask any high school AP class English writing teacher and find out first hand how far off your perception is on that expression. I am not a hypocrite and I am not particularly interested in Bruce's sycophants point of view. I gave my opinion and obviously Brucie's fans can't stop whining if everyone doesn't adore him. Deal with it .

  • @LuvsUlf5 Hey, at least we have that common. I don't care what you think, either.

  • @RockRampage74 Excellent...works for me! Have a Happy New Year!

  • got some great bootlegs from 78 bruce and the boys were on fire on the darkness tour! love you guys.x

  • bark- I think you mean Jimmy Fallon.

  • Dang he was so young, so powerful in concert. Just watched to video with him on Jimmy Kimmel and had to come back to look at some old classic Bruce... rock on!

  • Respect Da Boss!

  • If only I hadn't 4 years old when he gave this concert...what I wouldn't give to be able to go back in time (as me now) and see him live...guess youtube will have to do.

  • @bbpurdygurl I was 18 and sitting 4th row at this show in Phoenix. It changed my life, every show after that had to live up to that show, even Springteen shows!

  • possibly the greatest rock song of all time. happened to play in the same studio this was recorded at in Blauvelt new york

  • @ivanwhodunit so?? lamo

  • Thanks for posting,

    Dave Ledecky

     Praha, Ceska Republik

  • the greatest

  • Tramps like us were born to watch this superb performer at his absolute best.

  • My girlfriend teared me in front of the stage while thjis song , in Munich 1985 . For this she became my loving wife . Rock'nRoll

  • still fresh, still hard hitting, still makes me wanna drive 100mph every time i hear it... after 35 years... amazing

  • Greatest rock ever ... thank you Bruce

  • Wow....looking at this date of 1978 makes me feel old. But the song is still a hit and will stay a hit! Love Brrruuuuuuucccceeee!!!

  • Where did all the Rock anthems go?

  • @PoutinePete Write one!

  • Bruce has always given his very best effort. He never ever dogged it on stage. I always felt I should have paid more for my ticket than I did.

  • What a dag!!!

  • He's got his Johnny Thunders face on during the opening solo. Great stuff...

  • the whole born to run album changed my entire perspective on music

in fact the first three springsteen albums are basically why im in a band right now

  • My first Springsteen show happened at the Forum in Inglewood, CA. 3 days before these Phoenix videos were shot. The concert that changed my perspective on life (with an assist from the Darkness on the Edge of Town album) ) on the 6th Bruce did a live concert from The Roxy on Sunset which was broadcasted live on KMET. Many of those songs are on 75-85 live disc (which is excellent I might add) Presently I am awe struck by the focus of my channel. Check her out- She Rock's!!!!!!

  • Just saw the Boss being honored at the Kennedy Center on tv and had to come here just to see him sing this like only he can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • amazing

  • Nothing like this guy. Absolutely nothing!!!

  • best rocker ever!!!!!!!!!

  • Long live the boss!

  • he was 29!!!Saw him las 26th july in Bilbao, and he still does rock the house like anyone else can do!!!!!THE BOSS!The one and only, forever

  • I was there too, what a concert!

They rocked for over 3 hours and played great, old surprising tunes :)

  • say what? hes not.

  • great performance by a great songwriter

  • Fucking magic.

  • i'm not a big springsteen fan but i gotta admit he's an absolute master of his craft in this vid

  • All Knowledgable Bruce fans, I'm hoping you can give me some lesser known gems to check out. What is Bruce's best material that's least known? Thanks in advance....

  • Hi discokid,

All his stuff is pretty well known, but I would recommend getting the first 2 albums on CD.

They are both terrific; The Wild/Innocent/EStreet Shuffle has become my fave as time goes by.

Also get the 30th anniversary BTR box w/the '75 London concert DVD - that is excellent.

  • godddamn right that london concert is excellent. actually it is superbly, magically, perfectly, awesomeley excellent. spelling obviously is wrong but i dont give a fuck, that concert is the shit!

  • I wonder if they called him Da Boss Man back in these days?

  • Only the band really called him that back then. He didn't even like that, but by the BitUSA tour he had accepted it.

  • yeah

  • 4:35

  • For a second there I thought that was the Lynn Goldsmith photo, but it wasn't because Bruce is facing the drums and Clarence is standing in a different spot.

  • Bruce is such a legend in Jersey that people go there expecting to see him on every street corner . It's as if he still hangin around some car wash at midnight lookin for girls and cash for muscle car parts.

  • I was 5 years old in 1978, wow

  • I was almost 10 years away from being born

  • the man

  • This 1978 tour, was the greatest concert I have ever seen in my life...... I think it was in OCT. or, NOV.

Aladdin Theater for the Performing Arts.... Las Vegas, NV.

  • The saxophonist is brilliant. Anyone know his name?

  • Clarence Clemons

  • The 'BIG' Man....

  • ...and Lincoln was President during the Civil War, too bozo. Where THE FUCK have you been all your life to not know THE BIG MAN's name???!!!

  • Obviously I know that now. I doubt you knew as much about music as you do now when you were 16.

  • I apoligize for my snide comment Detz. Didn't

realize you were only 16. How do you learn unless you ask, right. Again, I'm sorry.

  • Thanks for that my friend. :-) Usually you just get a "fuck you faggot!" as a reply so cheers. :-)

  • ladys and gents ...this is 1978. we didnt even have dvds yet, hell, we still had some 8 tracks, and everything on cassette. my parents didnt get cable tv until 1983, when mtv started, when my first son was born the fastest computer chip was the 8083. does that give you a time frame?

yeah i am 42, is that an old fart or what?

  • Well old man, I'm 47. I was a jr. in HS, in South Jersey in '78. Bruce was God back then. 1st time I saw him live was May 26, 1978. Got my drivers license that morning, gambling started at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, and saw Bruce that night. A day to remember. Drove around w/ an 8 track of the Passaic, NJ show in my car for years. It's permanently tattooed on my brain...As a parent of 2 teenagers now, I'm proud to say, both like Bruce....they didn't really have a choice now, did they? lol.

  • This is neat. Where'd you get it?

  • Tramps like us, baby we were born to run...

  • Outstanding! Love to see more!

  • i was there it was sick

  • yeah right, you were there when you were only 1 (lol)

  • no lol..i rly was there and btw i was 15

  • the big man is out of tune...

  • You're right, he sounds "off" Good ear

  • yeah, he is off

  • He's not out of tune fools, it's just not recorded well.

  • It's bruce springsteen though. He's always not in key and its never recorded well. But it's incredible because of his accent and the huskiness thats in it. And the shouting! THe shouting and the words! I GOTTA FINDA OUT HOW IT FEELS! I wanna know love is wild, I wanna know if love is REAL!

  • OH MY BRUCE, this DVD should be the best released after the HAMMERSMITH DVD.... and the unofficial PARIS '85 ;)

  • Excellent. Thanks for the upload. Looking forward to the official DVD next year.

  • Is it really coming out on DVD next year? Where did you hear about that?

  • It may not happen. Nothing official has been announced and it may just be wishful fan thinking. If there is going to be a DVD release to tie in with the 30th Anniversary of the Darkness album then this Phoenix show is the number #1 candidate. Bruce rarely seems to release what people might expect - so who knows? Perhaps we'll get his unreleased hip hop album instead! ;-)
