  • Oh my goodness...I forgot about this movie! I used to watch this at least once a week when I was a child!

  • WOW HIs name is Russ Tamblyn Eh?

Well My last name is tamblyn!

    (Creepy)..

  • I bet this was the funnest movie to make for its time!

  • my favorite childhood film love it so much stil allways sing this dsong with my ma :D

  • I can see where "Toy Story" picked up a few ideas from this film.

Russ Tamblyn shows so much vitality and gusto and zest for what he's doing as Tom that you'd hardly think he was the same actor in "War of the Gargantuas". To his credit, he showed some acrobatic moves in "The Haunting".

  • I always wanted a room like this when I was little.

  • Every now and then I have broken into humming this song through out my life and yet I could never remember what it was from. I'm so glad I fell upon this by chance because now I recall watching this with gramda, Father, who is now deceased, and my brother. It is so nice to have this memory returned; need-less to say I have just spent the past thirty minutes crying.

  • Superb song.

  • i love tommy thumb my mum brought me up on it along with the ones everyone knows like wizard of oz ane the original charlie and the chocolate factory etc etc dont make films like these anymore :-( x

  • there are three people apparently angry at the world... but still this is the greatest movie everrrr :D

  • @JonathanH051088 wicked awesome! lol Russ is such an amazing acrobat, simply blows my mind XD doo dee doo dee dum dum DUM! hehe

  • I sat in the Lowes State theatre in St .Louis mo when I was a kid and stayed for 6 showings. (remember when they charged 1 price and you could stay as long as you liked) those were the days my friends we thoght they would never end. nuff said

  • part3????4????5????hääää????? haaaalllllllooooo meeeeehr bittttteeeeeee :)

  • Before computer animation. Imagination comes first, everything else after! Imagine that!

  • Incredible Russ Tamblyn, I use to watch him in Twin Peaks, what a different Character!

  • Incredible Russ Tamblyn, I use to watch it in Twin Peaks, what a different Character!

  • I can dance like that, and so can - Ummmmm, errrrrrrr, gene Kelly maybe

  • I can dance like that, and so can - Ummmmm, errrrrrrr, gene kelly maybe

  • When you're a jet, you stay a JEEEEEEEEEET!

  • i know he was'nt a great actor, but a good looking guy with that kind of athleticism, how the hell did he not end up the biggest action-film star of his era? and when he appeared a Dr Jacoby in Twin Peaks, this was the first scene i thought of.

  • loved this film and still do i havent seen it in yrs 1of my fave song and fave part but i do love this film soo much

  • i am very confused my dad told me to look this cartoon up and im scared now...

  • I absoulutly love this film!!! I haven't seen it in ages but i still like singing "this is my song" and my dad used to sing "the yawning man" to get me to sleep. I actually think this is my favourite film ever!! :D

  • brings back memories

  • this is available to buy on dvd at play.com 5.99 with free p&p bargain for a classic

  • Really great children song

I recall it from my childhood .. Oh really a great classic

  • Hey does anyone know where I can get a copy of this film!! I live in england

  • @gateforth I'm looking for this on DVD too. My wife's favourite film ever cince she was a child. If I get her this for Christmas I won't need to get her anything else :-)

(I think its rather disturbing though)

  • this film used to give me the creeps.

  • go russ go,the man is great and nicest guy you'll want to meet.

  • @auggdogrules i dont want to meet him - i would be scared i might crush him to death if I stood on him

  • holly shiza that golly wog scared the crap out of me

  • GREAT movie, fab effects considering the time it was made!

  • Russ Tamblyn was such a talented acrobatic gymnast and a dancer. It must have taken Herculean indurance to do all of that jumping around, flipping, and dancing!

  • Not being racist, but when I was a kid I was terrified of that gollywog on this.

  • I didn't know Tom Thumb was so gay.

  • George Pal was always a better producer than a director. (NY Times critic described his direction of this film, his first as a director, as "generally flat." His use of jazz music for the dance number seems anachronistic and misplaced. But hey, it's effects earned an Oscar, so what the heck.

  • It's all very clever for a film of it's time, I remember watching it more than a lot when I was little lol, it's nice to see it again :)

  • 50 Free Youtube Subs Here watch?v=uD5Zi4ZGLhM

  • Comic/character actor/mimic and singer Dallas McKennon did the voices for the "Puppetoon"toys here..including "Confusion The Chinese Humpty Dumpty"..Mrs.Gracie Lantz did the laughs for pole climbing"Woody Woodpecker"toy.

  • Mr Tamblyn has said that he never sang in his movies. Yet?! I wonder if he sang this tune..or? did someone else record his vocals and he just lip synced them?

  • I just found this out of pure wonder if it actually existed. This song as always been in my head ever since i was a lttile girl and now im 24. I wonder if i could buy dvd or vhs version.

  • It used to be on TV every christmas in the UK, throughout the 70s and 80s

  • I loved the scene where the character he painted comes to life and dances with him. But the jack-in-the-box used to creep me out a bit.

  • I totally remember this movie! Man it's been so long since the last time I've seen it! Brings back old memories!

  • I used to watch this video all the time when I was little.

    Scared me so much.

  • aww thank you! This tom thumb tune has been floating around my unconscious for 35 years.

  • Thanks for posting the entire song sequence, Babyjess01. Just one correction: the official title of this song is "Tom Thumb's Tune" (not This Is My Song). It was written and composed by Peggy Lee -- the same singer who also wrote and sang the numbers from Disney's "Lady and the Tramp."

  • never seen this film but wow i love it

  • how could such a charamastic guy get mixed up in drugs?! :'( but to be honest he looks like heres on them here XD :D.... will never forget Russ!

  • love this film but if they weren't so obsessed with spoiling their non existant child with toys then just maybe they could eat something other than cabbage suit xP but at least Tom comes to enjoy it :)

  • Amazing, so amazing..wow and can that kid dance!! George Pal is incredible with the paper doll dancing.

  • Oh the 50s, how lovely and innocent you were.

  • Oh god I used to love this film so much when I was a kid <3

  • damn. watched this many times as a child. now i remember watching it. very nice movie!

  • Am I the only one that hears Woody Woodpecker?

  • Does anyone else think Toy Story was based on this film ?

The similarities are there for all to see and Tom's best mate is called Woody the Woodcutter !!!

  • Only Woody in Toy Story ISNT a woodcutter... :|

  • aww so much memories :(

    time goes too fast :(

  • I saw this as a kid.

  • I just remember even more great dancing out of him as Riff in West Side Story.

  • thank you its good for me and my baby

  • My sister and I sent away for this from the back of a jar of "Bosco". It was on a 45RPM record. The flip side was a song called "It's got to be Now or Never" which was a poor attempt at filling the other side of the record. Never saw the movie or heard the 9 minute song till yesterday. This is great music and dancing!

  • My mother sent away for that record for me, too....I wish I still had it but I think sister absconded with it years ago.

"It's Now or Never" WAS a poor attempt to fill a B side but Russ was no singer. But I was 4.....what did I know?...LOL! He was an incredible acrobat and dancer, though. :)

  • Used to watch this @ grandmas house all the time...my favorite scene of the movie :)

  • I loved this so much. Thanks for posting

  • Thanks for this!

  • Too bad Russ disappeared into oblivion.Last time I seen him was in a very small unspoken part in Cabin Boy as a Merman.I know he got swallowed up by drugs in the 60`s.Sad really.

  • He is one of the best dancers ever.

  • When the heads of MGM convinced Mr.Pal that a

real actor should play Thom Thumb. He wanted to

hire Donald O'Connor for the part. MGM However felt that Mr.Russ Tamblyn should play

    the role and..he did.

  • Originally,Mr.George Pal didn't want Mr.Tamblyn to

play Tom Thumb. He wanted to do the film as an all puppetoon movie. But the heads of MGM said have a real actor play the

    part.

  • What wonderful memories this brings to me. I first saw Tom Thumb at The Wakefield Theater In The Bronx,NYC 51 years ago and it still enchants me.

  • anyone kno where i can get the UK DVD for this?

  • love this movie i know this story from my father, i'have search for this video all over. where can i get this film?

    Aww it's so fun!

  • thankyou soo much for uploading! Brings back happy memories)

  • Wow, what a great movie!

It's got brilliant sets, pretty awesome stop motion moments, and absolutely fantastic performers!

    I hope someone uploads it!

  • All those toys must be valuable collectors' items now. I love that big cuddly monkey!!! But there are some very good if not better dancers today!!!

  • When you actually think about when this film was made the graphics, the ideas, the time spent to create such a movie is beyond belief. The whole movie is packed with amazing talent and creative scenery. Even if a re-make was made of this movie today it wouldn't even compare to the original.

A wonderful movie, one that will amaze generations to come!

  • He makes dancing looks so easy. I watched this like 10 times was so entertained. Thanks for the upload!

  • I agree with Leigh877. No one has the all around talent these days to pull it off. They would have to get a west end/broadway star to do it.

  • Loved this movie...I think I´m gonna buy it. :-)

  • Mee too.

  • I used to watch this movie when I was little. I used to sing along with my mother to every song in the movie.

  • I think Tom Hanks would have had a shot at it.. maybe not sure if he could dance though ! lol

  • mum rented me this when i was 8 and i watched it 6 times, a classic

  • I can't imagine any young actor now who would be doing something like this. I don't think he'd be able to do it. Russ Tamblyn is amazing!

  • He's an amazing dancer and acrobat, isn't he?

  • My papa rented this movie for me and my sister when I was six. I've always loved this song. Thanks for the upload. :)

  • the had coloured film in the 50's? I'm 12, so i wasn't around when this was made_=D

  • that's sooooo great!! As a kid i loooooved this movie and when i look at it now i realise how talented was Russ Tamblyn. I mean, i wasn't realising how a great dancer he was when i was 6 you know! ? lol

    xxx

  • I loved this movie as a kid, and it still looks as wonderful. I hope to get a copy of it somewhere.

  • The toys were animated by the great George Pal of Puppetoon fame.

  • My god I loved this film as a kid. I don't remember how I watched it, but I thought it was pure fun. I always remembered this scene and this song too.
