They pay their workers more than those in Japan and South Korea, and they have left over pensions and retirement funds for people who no longer work for them. Jeez, that is a ridiculous price for a Grandsport. That's nearly $93,000 in USD. A base Z06 here runs about $75,000-80,000 and it's a lot more car than the GS.
Oh well at least its not Costa Rica... They have nearly a 100% import tax on American cars, when I was there I met a guy with a Ford GT... Poor bastard probably shelled out around $300,000 for it.

They produce a few of their own cars, but also have contracts with other companies to produce foreign cars locally. Some cars from Nissan, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, and Suzuki are made locally in Iran, and they don't get taxed as much to import them in.
Iran themselves only make a few models and they export to neighboring countries in Middle Easy, Asia, and few in Europe

Let's get the Corvette in convertible and automatic form to make it as slow and expensive as possible and then compare it to a GT-R and XKR. Autocar, I love your reviews, but next time ditch the rag top and slush box for a better matchup. Why not match a Z06 up with this price group? The 2012 GT-R will still win the drag race, but the XKR wouldn't be in the equation. And to match the Jag's price, you'd have to race a ZR1. The Jag wouldn't see which way the ZR1 went - it'd be over so fast.

As an American, I feel obliged to show some patriotism towards the Corvette, but I just can't. Yes, it is a fantastic performance car, but its road manners are poor and the interior gives a 1992 Hyundai a run for its money. In fairness, though, Autocar should not have tested an automatic, and the Grand Sport makes more sense in the States b/c we don't have to worry about import prices. All in all, GM needs to release the C7 already.
Wrong Corvette. The ZO6, especially equipped with the Ultimate performance package, is a credible GT3 alternative. Jag XK-RS is the one to have and the GTR? Beats pretty much everything this side of a Veyron but is boring, boring, BORING!

Why didn't they compare a Z06 to the GT-R or Jaguar XK-R? That is more in line with this price and performance. The GT-R can't be beat though, but the XK-R is far more expensive than even a Z06.
what happens with the Jag at step off? It's just bizarre how well the GT-R goes considering the power to weight ratios of these cars. Jaguar simply MUST be able to get more acceleration out of that drivetrain.
Nissan=Best for techno thrills and beating pretty much everything. Jag=Best for arriving with class in a spirited way and impressing the ladies. Corvette=Best for convincing people you have a tiny penis and like to sleep with your cousins!
The price of Vettes after tariffs make the GS a viable comparison in the price segment. It's something many Americans seem to forget.

The Corvette should have come in second. This isn't the first autocar video I've seen where the American car didn't perform to what the numbers and, indeed, every other magazine/video have shown it should.

This is actually a piss poor comparison. A convertible Grand Sport with the base engine of the Corvette (the least powerful engine of the three available in a Corvette) in a drag race vs. a much more expensive top performance level Jag and the GT-R...all on damp pavement. They pay their workers more than those in Japan and South Korea, and they have left over pensions and retirement funds for people who no longer work for them. GM, Ford, and Chrysler also have for the longest time been filled with old geezers running the companies who don't know what Americans really want in a car. They try to cut corners in places they shouldn't.

Jeez, that is a ridiculous price for a Grandsport. That's nearly $93,000 in USD. A base Z06 here runs about $75,000-80,000 and it's a lot more car than the GS.
Oh well at least its not Costa Rica... They have nearly a 100% import tax on American cars, when I was there I met a guy with a Ford GT... Poor bastard probably shelled out around $300,000 for it.

@jolichja Yeah. Not good cars though. They have two major automobile plants. Saipa and Iran Khodro. They produce a few of their own cars, but also have contracts with other companies to produce foreign cars locally. Some cars from Nissan, Mercedes, Hyundai, Kia, Peugeot, Renault, Citroen, and Suzuki are made locally in Iran, and they don't get taxed as much to import them in.
Iran themselves only make a few models and they export to neighboring countries in Middle Easy, Asia, and few in Europe

@jolichja come to china, u will find its nothing. the import tax appears to be not very high at JUST 45%, then you will pay VAT, and pollution tax, and car&boat tax and purchase tax and registration fee to have the car under your name. then if u want to drive it, you need to pay road tax, if you buy some petrol, it will include a bit road tax too, after you paid road tax twice, you have to pay to go onto highways, and there is a toll station every 50km. if you try to avoid highway and go to ....

Let's get the Corvette in convertible and automatic form to make it as slow and expensive as possible and then compare it to a GT-R and XKR. Autocar, I love your reviews, but next time ditch the rag top and slush box for a better matchup. Why not match a Z06 up with this price group? The 2012 GT-R will still win the drag race, but the XKR wouldn't be in the equation. And to match the Jag's price, you'd have to race a ZR1. The Jag wouldn't see which way the ZR1 went - it'd be over so fast.

Like Chris Harris said, the level of fetishism of the GT-R is incredible, Model Year 2012 has details such as an asymmetrical chassis. Whoever thinks the GT-R is a characterless car is missing the point.

As an American, I feel obliged to show some patriotism towards the Corvette, but I just can't. Yes, it is a fantastic performance car, but its road manners are poor and the interior gives a 1992 Hyundai a run for its money. In fairness, though, Autocar should not have tested an automatic, and the Grand Sport makes more sense in the States b/c we don't have to worry about import prices. All in all, GM needs to release the C7 already.

Why didn't they compare a Z06 to the GT-R or Jaguar XK-R? That is more in line with this price and performance. The GT-R can't be beat though, but the XK-R is far more expensive than even a Z06.
