  • I'm a big fan of these Piccadilly records. The vocals all add to the period charm. This is from Jerrys first recording session in Jan 1931

  • @berresfordsmotors They are brilliant-i think there should be a cd of Piccadilly bands produced.Such great early 30s British dance band sound.I like the use of accordian and xylophone here.

  • A really excellent version of this classic. Well played, too.

  • Vocalist Bill Whinnie (who was the bands tuba player) recorded January 1931

  • Not convinced it's Jimmy Allen. Didn't make my skin crawl like Jimmy's voice does. A great record, and rather scarce I think.

  • Some of my earliest "finds" were by Jerry Hoey. They are almost like old friends. I will include one of of his record's on my next upload.

British dance band book does not credit the vocalist.. (I quite like his period and very English style). I'm sure it's Jimmy Allen who I have singing with Eddie Norris and Alan Selby. He also made a few solo records. All were issued on Piccadilly.

Jerry Hoey's records are all too seldom heard so thank you for making this available.

  • I don't have a problem with the vocalist. Love the Piccadilly label too.

  • His voice is not bad but its the American twang he seems to go into when he says "what did a do,what did a do"that jars with me a bit.
