  • the tempo you play it at is nice. i am sick of people playing it fast. I just got into ragtime and i don't know how it is supposed to be played but the fast versions suck. This song is so much better slower.

  • Very good!!! I'm learning this song right now :)

  • You're a talented piano player. Far better than myself, but this recording almost feels mechanical. It feels like you were playing the song just to get it on video. It just doesn't feel the emotion some recordings I've seen have. I'd bet you can bring it out if you tried.

  • good playing, but your lack of animation dulls this lively piece.

  • all i can say is wow. i have been trying to set a goal to learn this song all year. i must try it some time

  • that is so amazing! I just love this :) Thanks for playing!

  • Thanks for sharing. I'm learning this song at the moment. Wish I had more time to practice, I always admire people who play from memory.

  • @LadyLockets

Thx, playing from memory is an obvious consequence for difficult songs: you practice them for such a LONG time you should be able to write down the whole score by yourself! :)

  • Sorry, i'm french so i don't speak very good english ... !

But i try ! : you play very good this song , can you put a comments on my video, you mark : Thelulujade and you select mapple leaf rag , i have got lots of video, you can look others video too !!

    i hope you understand !! ...

    Thanks you !! and ...CONGRATULATION !! =D

  • Nicely done!

    Thanks!

  • Well done :), loved listening to your performance. If only scott could see how much people are still keep his rags alive!.

  • very nice :D

I'm practicing this music now, too.

  • fantastic playing

but there isn't an interpretation .

  • Hey I play this one too... and I think I'm not bad. But I got like 0 Views.

Please check my Video out cause I'm new

  • faster plz... thx :P

  • I 've seen many versions on the tube, but this one belongs to my favorites.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • I cant resist going fast when i play this :p

  • Bravo! I like that you play so "lightly" and don't accent the accompaniment.

  • Excellent! Most people play it too fast. The tempo was perfect!!!

  • very very very very very very very very very goooooooood!!!

  • Pay no mind to this 'baby'-punk. He's probably upset that you didn't play any Liberace.

  • Fine job! Perfect tempo...Best I have heard with exception of Joplin himself.

    Thanks

  • wow. well played. this is the first version which i like alot. most guys want to show how fast they can play and forget the rag.

  • I also think it was a perfect run. You hit the keys with such a precision that it's for sure that you are a pro. I've started a tutorial session, but I'm far behind you. :D

  • Very Nice...Thank you so much for

sharing your wonderful talent with all

of us. God Bless you, Bob in VA.

  • this tune reminds me of the charlie chaplin movies its great

  • thansk for your comment; anyway the "haha" parts sound a bit childish. ;)

  • dont worry. i think that because he didnt hear any pedal confused his little brain into thinking there was no emotion :)

    I think u did awsome!

  • obviously if someone does not want to play, they wouldn't make a video of themselves playing the piano. It irritates the hell out of me when people tell others to play with more emotion. I look like a frigging statue when I play, but if you don't look at me you can't tell Im not moving. =/

  • Good point..but ragtime is so different from any other music genre in that the amount of "emotion" put into a song has a great affect on the sound.

  • Really good job! Sounds almost perfect. There were a few mistakes but they were so minor, no one really noticed. :-]

  • that's H2K style man, you pawn them all worst xD

  • eheh thanks Guitar...

    nice match tonight! :)

  • man you have a talent!. keep the Joplin alive and keep being awesome!!

  • Wow, good job! You kept the tempo nice and steady and didn't play it too fast. The rythm was flawless too!

  • I quite liked it. Would you mind doing Ragtime Dance too?

  • Nice. A lot of people blow it away too quickly.

  • Really clean too!

  • Nice job! I really like how you keep the time steady overall and that can be hard on this song.

  • hey, finally a very negative comment... but not very useful 'cause by the way you "talk" it's clear you're just a troll.

    so sad... so sad... :)

  • ?!

    oh my g od...

  • give it up, moron. you are a troll. this guy plays it perfectly. and i guarantee you couldn't do better, so shut the hell up.

  • awsome dude

  • good on ya fella!

  • brilliant. GREAT job. loved it. very nice work. good hands.

  • Brilliant! I'm learning it now and using this as my inspiration!

  • pretty good, but you need to press a little harder on the right hand. it will show a bit more of an effect for the main part. other than that, ur good.

  • thanks for your comment: left hand volume is louder 'cause the mic was on the floor on the left side. ;)

  • HOLY SHIT YOUR"E AWESOME!!

  • Great job! This one of my favorite pieces of all time.

  • we have to sing this for chow choir it's really fun to sing and play it!!! overall, nice work my brotha!

  • Awesome playing.

  • wow! thats great....

  • Excellent. I'd love to hear you do 12th Street Rag. Ma tu sei Italiano?

  • Hi mate, isnt it "ragtime music"? A kind of music i like to hear among others (The Sting soundtrack was a favorite). Nice performance, why dont u record something more?

  • yo qweq!

    you're right, it's a ragtime...

i'll sure record something more (don't know when) but my piano needs some good tuning now. :-/

so i'd rather use my synth...

  • you are cool

  • Sweet Vid.

  • this song is fun to play ^^ at 1:36 thats hard for me

  • sorry, i deleted last comment! :-(

the second camera angle was made by putting a webcam on top of two boxes above piano. :-)

  • you rock brotha!

  • Good job

  • i like this song - great playing

  • Honky tonk!

  • This is an awesome video, man. Bravo.

  • nice one mate... you got some skills on here and on GTA 4

  • lol... i'm no cheater! ;)

  • lol good job

  • This is exactly how to play it. You make the birth of stride piano's source jump off the keys.

  • bien joué....

  • very nice....a little bit slower than I've heard before but I actually like that...

  • Bravo!!!

  • Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! Plas! • COOL

  • dude, you have liquid fingers.

    i bow down to you!

  • you're nice playing this song!

  • Excellent playing. I love this song, and have not heard it done any better! Scott Joplin seems all but forgotten today. Thank you for the great post, and thank you for making me smile.

  • Best version on youtube by far - well done mate

  • tht was rlly gd

  • Very entertaining,loved it

  • Non c' è male . . .cmq è il ragtime + bello

  • Very good!!

  • buetifull

  • Excellent change of camera angle at the key change.

  • Very very good.. not too fast, almost if not totally perfect, and expressive. Thanx for sharing!

  • Hey ho ora visto il tuo channel.. allora complimenti anche in Italiano!

  • I tried finding the song on the piano but it sounds off when I play it..? Can you please tell me where you got your sheet music? D:

  • very well played!! I hink u played the final part too fast, though... any way, it still sounds nice :) congratulations!

  • Great version, not like the other guy "Chocotiger" playing too fast!

  • Very nice.

  • ur great.. but ur piano looks weird O.O

  • why?... it's a normal vertical piano...

  • lol, thats a totally normal piano

  • i love you--sorry im a guy!!! : )

  • ????????

  • A perfect rendering ....if a robot had played it it would lack the human element you have so skillfully imbued into this piece and kindly shared with us here. Excellent stuff my freind !!!!

  • Excellent job! Love this piece...

  • BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!

  • great job, well done !!!

  • sei bravissimo, suoni da Dio

  • yikes! amazin, well done, brovo!

  • excellent job!

  • One of my favorites. : )

  • Nice, straightworward performance without any eccentricities or gimmicks.

  • Good job

  • Well, clearly you have a prodigeous talent, but why do you race the score and yet spend an inordinate length of time on the diminished 7th's at the expence of the flat 11 ths?

All of this coupled with a distratcion in the minor arpegio and a seemingly confused response to Joplin's own commewnt about blending the minor flat with the major fat and large penis inverse to the complexities of the square root of the octave quadratic equinox of the natural flat major??

    lol. Joking. Well done...

  • wtf...?

  • LOL WTF?

  • yes yes...sorry. lol. I was a bit pissed when I logged that one. I just get tired of all the "learned criticisms" non-posters log. For the record, I thought he did a very good job.

  • thats what she said. OHHH!! lulz

  • lol.

    just lol

  • beautifully played dude. amazing.

  • i agree. playing it too fast loses some of this song's quality. this tempo is great!

  • -sigh- Amazing. This is one of, if not, my favourite song to hear on the piano. EXACTLY like what skachick said, I would love to learn this song.

  • very good accuracy! I fudge mine with the pedal sometime. A bad habit. Nice double camera work. Very nice job. Keep it up or you'll forget it.

  • dude great job that is one of my fav song on piano and can't play it but would luv to learn . so yea good job

  • Good Tempo! Most people rush through a Ragtime!

Scott Joplin - "Never Play A Ragtime Fast" ! :)

  • see on youtube rod miller maple reaf :D he's very fast xD

  • The tempo is just fine. It's a shame that most people play it too fast.

  • I *think* you sped up a bit when you started the second movement

  • agree. but still he played it well. :)

  • good playing but without pedal. If you want chek my video

  • playing with pedal is much easier. ;-)

  • nah... I thing that is the same

  • no its not!! it makes everything way more confusing!!

  • I didn't mean to put pedal at all the song so it could be confusing, but I mean to put pedal in some parts of the song and not always. ok?

  • awesome playing! finally someone who plays with the right tempo...

  • wow i love how u played the second part especually

  • I like your starting tempo, but do maintain your tempo. There are spots when you sort of lose it, and you begin to speed up excessively in the middle. But a job well done indeed!

  • Great Tempo--you're really a good player--Joplin is very hard to play--and it's nice to hear MAPLE LEAF played at this tempo---playing to fast makes the Maple Leaf Rag sound less convincing--i think you're tempo was just about right

  • I agree about the tempo.. Seems like there are a lot of pianists who insist on playing ragtime as fast as they can get their hands around it, and that was never the spirit of rag time. Wanna play something really fast, then break out Chopin Fantasie 66 or something! :)

  • yeah the tempo is great... but i disagree with joplin being very hard to play! ragtime is rather easy compared to baroque, classics or romantics - its only unusual but not hard.

and btw, he lays to much emphasis on his right thumb. the higher notes are not well recognizable

  • i heard the maple leaf rag too in the MSX game scooter.

  • Great music, some players have a sense of timing, some don't probably cause they don't feel it like you do. Thanks

  • IMO, this tempo is spot on! I am not impressed when this tune played too fast. It proves nothing to me. But this version -- perfect. I heard the "heart" in it.

  • amen to that

  • Very good! Finally a vid with the correct speed, because if you play so fast as many other have, you'll loose the swing

  • i cn play this, but my hands are way to short so it sounds a bit weird :S

  • Have FUN with it!

  • omg this is my fav song ! i can play this on piano...i lov it :D

  • hey mate, thats awsome

  • Man i love this video! 5 stars!!!

  • im playing this song in c major and its short compared to your song in A flat(i think) im currently working on the original entertainer song and i might posta vi d on it %^& anyway bravo!!

  • Well Done, that was amazing!

I've learned a easier version of the Entertainer and Im pretty good at it.

  • lol.. i learnt that when i was in.. grade 2? :D

  • i mean, when i was 7 or 8 years old. Its.. apparently.. less than a page :D

  • good!

  • je trouve que tu le joue magnifiquement. bravo. very nice. better than my version

  • Very nice job!! Thats was great! I loved that!

  • any tips for a beginner? im pretty sad at the piano, started yesterday. Only songs i know are the beginning of the entertainer, and we three kings =P.

  • just keep practicing and learn good technique.

i started almost a year ago. im starting toccata in d by bach.

  • my brother just loves this song i remember he was i believe 13 or 14 when he perfected it^^ u did a very nice job 2

  • thanks! I was 12 when I learned both this one and The Entertainer! ;)

  • on that i know for sure he was 13 when he started the entertainer^^.....i wish i could play the piano like u guys :( but its a little late u started when u were 6 and well my brother he was like 3 XD. so i guess i'll just stick to my clarinet....

  • nice job! i liked it.

  • nice job i am gonna try to learn this song since i have a piano that has it built in and has music to follow so i'll read it

  • awesome job with this. you play it by memory like me haha

  • great! Hey, what sort of musical education have you got? i've got hold of the notation and i'll start practising asap but, as I'am mainly depending on my good will and some rough experience(i've never attended piano lessons), can i do it? what's your experience in getting to this level of playing?

  • Well, I started to take lessons when I was 6, 'til 14. At the time of the record, I was 26 y.o. .

Anyway, when I was 14 I couldn't go thru the Trio (the 3rd part)! But I really wanted to do it, so I kept on practicing very hard on this piece.

Just try to do it VERY, VERY slow at first (the 1st part is the easy one)...

  • Great tempo. Most people don't understand that Ragtime is supposed to be played at a leisurely tempo. This is one of the faster ones though, marked at "Tempo de Marcia." Good job.

  • I thoroughly agree with you, 100%.

  • Perfect Tempo... I've been looking for a recording that was a little slower than the original... this doesn't sound frantic like a lot of other recordings I've heard. Bravo...

  • sounds good to me. You just need to kick away the bench and jam!

  • Listen matey, anyone who says 'faster' tell them to take a hike. Bravo.

  • check out the Rod Miller version.....

  • wow your really good! XD

  • well said freeas

  • hey man you're really good solid tempo, great playing throughout and then you speed up a little bit. How long you been playing? of course you need to play it right, but you need to add your own style to it you know what i mean? there has to be you in it becuase you're the one playing it and it doesn't have to exactly match the exact recording just thought i would say that because it came to my mind and is true i hope you agree

  • Very solid. I've played this song MANY MANY times and you have it down. Right out of the book. You'd might be interested to listen to Scott Joplin HIMSELF play it. He added some flair to it.

  • i like ur version its nice dont listen to the other idiots but awesome work! ;)

    plz check out my videos!

  • you gotta go justa little bit faster

  • No way. What's the problem with you? It's Music, it's not a challenge.

  • Anyway, go at your own speed! I hate it when people tell me to go faster when Im playing Clarinet, Sax or Piano!

  • well wouldn't you agree that playing Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement in Largo would be a bit inappropriate? But here your speed is not bad, I mean it's not too slow, it's just sume people prefer it a little bit faster. I've heard this piece being played too fast, which isn't good either.

  • i loved that
