This is NOT taken from the Live & Dangerous tour! That was in '77-'78 w/ Robbo and Gorham. :D This is with Snowy who came AFTER Moore (and Midge Ure, who filled in the tours after Moore bailed) This would've had to of been during the 'Renegade' tours (if it's in '81 as you post), which was short lived for Snowy as well.
Such a badass intro to the song. asking what the audience wants to hear and then playing what they wanted to play anyway lol. Of course who wouldn't want to hear emerald? Though this guitar duel is decidedly less interesting with snowy instead of robbo or moore.
Im not a guitarist but does Snowy come in on a misplaced solo at 1:57? ..Snowy and Scott also sound out of tune...Robo where are you man, Phil said he was sorry!
Ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls, cats & dogs, amphibians & reptiles, please may I introduce the greatest band in the history of the known universe....the mighty....THIN LIZZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw them on this tour and was blown away but this looks like a pretty lack lustre performance and yeah, Snowy White was not a natural Thin Lizzy guitarist> Phil doesn't look his best either. Even then he was getting a bit paunchy. The tabloids said that there was a riot at 5he show I saw because they refused to encore. There was no riot but Phil was declared ill. Still a great live act though
Snowy was too quiet, no personality. I was down the front at a Sydney gig waving my fist at him to fire up but he just played and gave me the poker face.
It just shows the calibre of guitarists that have come with this band. Personally, I thought the best parings were Gary Moore & Scott, and John Sykes & Scott. Robinson obviously is the 'original' wingman for Gorham, but I think that Black Rose and Thunder & Lightning were badass albums.
I love Lizzy like the air in my lungs. That's why this concert is so painful to watch: The band was tired and listless (was this the end of a long tour?), the sound was dry and hollow (the Yamaha amps were a TERRIBLE idea), the mix was atrocious, and Snowy -- who is a brilliant blues player -- was a very poor fit for Lizzy.
That said -- even at their worst, Lizzy was light years better than anybody on the circuit today. And I miss Phil Lynott every damn day.
@FreedomZealot The biggest problem was about Snowy's performance. He is a great guitar player, there's no doubt about that. But it's also obvious that he never had the "style", and necessary punch to join Lizzy. This concert shows exactly what I am talking about. He couldn't play along Scott.
wow.........they butchered this. I've always cited Scott Gorham as one of my influences but this performance is b.a.d. Maybe it's the monitors, maybe they cant hear, maybe they're just high as hell.
@pedraw I'm 50 now and every Sunday I spend reminiscing old times and music. You have made my day again. Lizzy are probably the best band of their era and there were quite a few good bands around then. Unique is the only description for them. Other bands have tried to copy their formula, but all failed. Music will never die with you and others posting such fantastic tracks. Phil RIP your legend lives on through people like these. Thank you.
@pedraw Could be the drugs or maybe Snowy didn't learn his parts correctly cos he couldn't stand being in the band after a short while -again due to huge drug use.
Lol I noticed that too, I put it down to the huge touring exhaustion they must have been under ;). It's nice to see we're all human at the end of the day though
so freakin awesome it's ridiculous!

@SweeperMells It's definitely Scott, only he's got darker hair than usual. There's no Gary Moore here!

@TheTurkeyDinosaur I believe you are correct. With Garys distinctive style, you can tell he's not here.

Snowy's sound is bad, like an amateur. Can be the reason this performance is not onr of their best.
filstaker 5 months ago
@filstaker Yep- Snowy wasn't the best of guitar players in Lizzy.
