This was when MST3K was FUNNY. After it went to cable, it lasted just a little longer, then DIED. I liked how at KTMA they interacted with the audience by reading their letters and phone calls on the air. Small-market TV shows that are produced by local, creative people are so special... Not anymore. TV is so different now. Something like MST3K will probably never come about ever again. And it only happened because the station DIDN'T CARE what they did, they just let them do whatever...
Just think. If this had been presented to us in 2011 and it wasn't the work of college students, it wouldn't be cute and it would not have lasted longer than a month.
That it started out this cheesy and has gone on to last thirty plus years (fifteen years for the KTMA show, the show we know, the movie, and another ten years of fan made MST fanfics and Rifftrax for thos who can't read between the lines) really tells you something.
This is the first time that I've seen any footage from the KTMA episodes...and boy do those bots look bad! The sketch was funny, but I'm not sure I could watch the whole season of KTMA without cringing.
I'm scared of Joel now D:

Another wonderful thing about this TV show is the archives of germination that exist.

Wow... really cool to see the origins of such a masterpiece. Gives hope to every kid with a video camera, a garage, and an electric drill.

OnYouthfulCynicism <-- THAT'S what I'm missing! An electric drill!

Okay... this show must have been made on a budget of $6.34 back in those days. And does Servo have a soda can tab on his lips?
AllenbysEyes 4 years ago 3
No; it's part of the snack dispenser he's made of.

@AllenbysEyes Technically, it was $250, but I know where you're coming off of.
